Summary

Written by addicts, for addicts, and about addicts, this is the hardcover edition of the book that sets forth the spiritual principles of Narcotics Anonymous that hundreds of thousands of addicts have used in recovery。

Just as with alcoholism, there is no "cure" for narcotic addiction, but recovery is possible through a program adapted from the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous。

Intended as a complete textbook for every addict seeking recovery, Narcotics Anonymous describes the NA program and how it works。 It includes the NA Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, as well as many personal stories of people who have found freedom from addiction through Narcotics Anonymous。

It’s not that this was bad。 I read it to get a better feel for the options available to some of the clients I work with … and that may have been a bit much … the stories felt repetitive but maybe that’s what some people need and I have a hard time with the God component of the program, which I know is supposed to be the name given to the higher power or the greater being … but, it felt awfully Christian to me … I don’t know enough about the first hand experiences of people living with opioid use It’s not that this was bad。 I read it to get a better feel for the options available to some of the clients I work with … and that may have been a bit much … the stories felt repetitive but maybe that’s what some people need and I have a hard time with the God component of the program, which I know is supposed to be the name given to the higher power or the greater being … but, it felt awfully Christian to me … I don’t know enough about the first hand experiences of people living with opioid use disorder, but … if it works for even some people, I’m glad it was written。 。。。more

I have read through twice and learn new things as I re-read。 The first half explains the program and the last half are members stories of their experience, strength, and hope。 A must read for anyone that is trying to change their life for the better。

Feel mostly the same way about this one as I do Alcoholics Anonymous。 Everyone could benefit from doing step work and finding spiritual growth。 It also isn't for everyone, and complete abstinence-based recovery isn't for everyone either。 Feel mostly the same way about this one as I do Alcoholics Anonymous。 Everyone could benefit from doing step work and finding spiritual growth。 It also isn't for everyone, and complete abstinence-based recovery isn't for everyone either。 。。。more

Love this book! Extremely helpful for anyone dealing with addiction。 The personal stories are what really drew me in, because I can relate to a lot of them。 If you are serious about your recovery this book is a must have!**My edition has a total of 423 pages, but I couldn't find out how to edit it on here。** Love this book! This book pointed me in a direction that saved my life。 That is not an exaggeration, I was consumed by the getting and using of drugs。If you think you have a drug problem (if you think so, you likely do); if you are tired of living a lie, this book is a great starting place for change。

This book absolutely revolutionized the way I view drug addiction and the nature of the addict。 Whereas, The Big Book of AA is the primary book I use, this book was a really great supplement and in some ways I prefer it to the Big Book。 What I like about this book is that it is very easy to read and accessible。 Each step is broken down to clearly explain what it means and all that it entails leaving little room for doubt or question。 I particularly appreciated the very spiritual way that Step 11 This book absolutely revolutionized the way I view drug addiction and the nature of the addict。 Whereas, The Big Book of AA is the primary book I use, this book was a really great supplement and in some ways I prefer it to the Big Book。 What I like about this book is that it is very easy to read and accessible。 Each step is broken down to clearly explain what it means and all that it entails leaving little room for doubt or question。 I particularly appreciated the very spiritual way that Step 11 was written in the Basic Text。 Furthermore, the personal stories at the back really brought to light the real nature of how worldwide the disease of addiction is。 Unlike the Big Book which primarily focusses on 1930s America, this book includes stories from places such as Saudi Arabia, Spain, Portugal, and more。 It really shows a wide range of people from a trans-gendered addict, to a pharmaceutical student, to the down and out junkie。 The Big Book will forever remain an important and vital piece of literature to me, but I also really love this book and would recommend anyone who struggles with addiction or knows someone close to them who does to read it and learn from its wisdom。 。。。more

What a nice book and program! Like many other non-religious folks, I had been originally turned off by 12 step programs because of what I imagined were their religious undertones。 But considering the program was written in the 30s, what could I have really expected? And I thought the programs were going to be $$, but they’re free (donation based)。 Very cool。 Some of the steps are powerful ones, even for non addicts。 Step 4, in particular, the self inventory, could be beneficial for everyone。I be What a nice book and program! Who knows? But I am happy the fellowship exists 。。。more
