Summary

From the No。 1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends With Us and November 9 comes a moving and haunting novel of family, love, and the power of the truth。

'Not every mistake deserves a consequence。 Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness。'

The Voss family is anything but normal。 They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss。 The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother's former nurse, the little half-brother isn't allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect。 Then, there's Merit。

Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn't earned and secrets her family forces her to keep。 While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan。 His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her - until she discovers that he's completely unavailable。 Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix。

Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she's never been a part of before leaving them behind for good。 When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves。

Poignant and powerful, Without Merit explores the layers of lies that tie a family together and the power of love and truth。

'Emotionally wrenching and utterly original, Without Merit's characters stayed with me long after I finished' Sara ShepardNew York Times bestselling author of Pretty Little Liars

loved itI loved this book, at first I wasn’t so sure about it but after the 2nd chapter I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see how it ended。definitely one of my favorites, all of the books are my favorite

I don’t know if this is a five star book but it’s the first book that has kept me reading willingly in months。 Colleen Hoover’s books obviously range wide in terms of YA appropriateness and as a high school librarian I choose carefully。 This one is adorable and reminds me a lot of John Green。 The quirky family, endearing but troubled heroine, meet-cute teenage love story, and the ultimately happy ending and positive message was really heartwarming。 There are some troubling events that happen but I don’t know if this is a five star book but it’s the first book that has kept me reading willingly in months。 Colleen Hoover’s books obviously range wide in terms of YA appropriateness and as a high school librarian I choose carefully。 This one is adorable and reminds me a lot of John Green。 The quirky family, endearing but troubled heroine, meet-cute teenage love story, and the ultimately happy ending and positive message was really heartwarming。 There are some troubling events that happen but unlike books like Thirteen Reasons Why, they are handled with good, accurate information about mental health。 There’s a long, long way between this and Verity。 😃 。。。more

A great read which details about depression and how we allAre ignorant towards the sign of it。 A read about acceptance into the family being fucked up but if there is compassion and consideration, it always helps to keep the family together!

This was chaos…

Okay before I write my review, I did actually really enjoy this read but it might sound more critical than I’m trying to be:I went in with the expectation that I was going to read a high school romance novel。 I was a little confused after finishing because to me, I did not see this as a romance。 There was romantic undertones but I saw this more as a book about a troubled teen and her chaotic family。 I throughly enjoyed the happy ending。 But it was hard to forgive her family alongside Merit for t Okay before I write my review, I did actually really enjoy this read but it might sound more critical than I’m trying to be:I went in with the expectation that I was going to read a high school romance novel。 I was a little confused after finishing because to me, I did not see this as a romance。 There was romantic undertones but I saw this more as a book about a troubled teen and her chaotic family。 I throughly enjoyed the happy ending。 But it was hard to forgive her family alongside Merit for the way they treated her。 I just felt like a lot of the things that were overcome and forgiven needed a little more than a simple “I’m sorry”。 I guess what I’m trying to say is it was a bit unrealistic in the handling of difficult topics。 All in all it was another good read from Queen Hoover💕 。。。more

3。5 ⭐️*Mental health triggers in the storyline。* It was good…not her best。 Decent story line though…but it wasn’t anything epic。

I keep reading Colleen Hoover books thinking that somehow she will miraculously handle delicate topics with more care, but I keep getting let down。 Like her other stories, it was entertaining and an easy read, but as other commenters have pointed out, most of the characters exhibit inappropriate behaviors (homophobic, manipulative, etc。)。 I think if I had read this as a teen I would have liked it more。 Reading it as an almost 30 year old with the perspective I now have, I don't find it as cute o I keep reading Colleen Hoover books thinking that somehow she will miraculously handle delicate topics with more care, but I keep getting let down。 Like her other stories, it was entertaining and an easy read, but as other commenters have pointed out, most of the characters exhibit inappropriate behaviors (homophobic, manipulative, etc。)。 I think if I had read this as a teen I would have liked it more。 Reading it as an almost 30 year old with the perspective I now have, I don't find it as cute or romantic as I would have years ago。 。。。more

what a hell of a mess and how extremely annoying can a protagonist be?? but good and important message tho

I thought the book had a lot of potential from the first chapter, especially in relation to the way the author built the characters, but the actual plot fell short for me。

3。5Not my favorite Colleen Hoover book; but still a good read。

I really enjoyed this read- easy, enjoyable, though not as emotion evoking as CoHo’s other books。 I feel like a lot of the topics in this book that she tried to delve into were done hastily, and the book would have fared better if she chose just one or two of the major themes。 Enjoyable read, no lack of laughs as we learned about the Dollar Voss (as a house) !

Hoover's tone and the reader's mood combine to create the gradual realization that a person is suffering from depression。 There usually is not just one "aha" moment。 Important lessons about family dynamics and open communication create a perfect read for young adults。 The discussions in regards to the characters and how they handle what life throws at them would be enlightening。 This is Merit's story but it wouldn't be possible without Sagan, Honor, Utah, the adults, and dogs。 Hoover's tone and the reader's mood combine to create the gradual realization that a person is suffering from depression。 There usually is not just one "aha" moment。 Important lessons about family dynamics and open communication create a perfect read for young adults。 The discussions in regards to the characters and how they handle what life throws at them would be enlightening。 This is Merit's story but it wouldn't be possible without Sagan, Honor, Utah, the adults, and dogs。 。。。more

really interesting and eye opening book。 i loved it

I didn’t know this was YA when I started it which I don’t normally read。 I think the book way too obviously tried to teach too many life lessons and none of it felt genuine or entertaining。

I never write reviews , but I have to leave one for this one! This book started off very slowly for me and I didn't think I was going to like it- I am so happy I stuck with it though because it definitely redeemed itself! I do enjoy Colleen's writing style but not exactly the genre of book that smooshes me in。 But since it was Colleen had to still give it a read :) I do enjoy Colleen's writing style but not exactly the genre of book that smooshes me in。 But since it was Colleen had to still give it a read :) 。。。more

My first Coho book and I must say I actually enjoyed it。 I liked the focus on mental health and realism surrounding depression。 I felt myself relating quite a lot with her struggles and it was overall a good book。
