Summary

Inspiring and insightful! The last chapter with "lessons" gives some good food for thought:- 'Good enough' is not good enough。 Relentless pursuit of perfection。- It should be about the future, not the past。- If you're in the business of making something, be in the business of making something great。- Don't be in business of playing it safe。 Be in the business of creating possibilities for greatness。- As a leader, if you don't do the work, the people around you are going to know, and they'll lose Inspiring and insightful! The last chapter with "lessons" gives some good food for thought:- 'Good enough' is not good enough。 Relentless pursuit of perfection。- It should be about the future, not the past。- If you're in the business of making something, be in the business of making something great。- Don't be in business of playing it safe。 Be in the business of creating possibilities for greatness。- As a leader, if you don't do the work, the people around you are going to know, and they'll lose their respect fast。- You can't communicate pessimism to people around you。 It's ruinous to morale。 Noone wants to follow a pessimist。- You have to communicate your priorities clearly and repeatedly; then people know what their own should be。- If something does not feel right to you, it won't be right for you。- The moment you look at yourself in the mirror and see a title on your forehead, you've lost your way。 。。。more

The Ride of a Lifetime is an intriguing biography of Michael Iger that includes an inside look at so many of the inside machinations of what propelled Disney out of the doldrums at the end of the last century and into a position of influence that touches nearly every life in the US and many around the world。 I love his 10 leadership qualities that he shares in the introduction and then points back to over the course of his career。I appreciated his humility and the ownership he takes for personal The Ride of a Lifetime is an intriguing biography of Michael Iger that includes an inside look at so many of the inside machinations of what propelled Disney out of the doldrums at the end of the last century and into a position of influence that touches nearly every life in the US and many around the world。 I love his 10 leadership qualities that he shares in the introduction and then points back to over the course of his career。I appreciated his humility and the ownership he takes for personal and leadership mistakes。 And I really was grateful for the way he described his relationship was built with Steve Jobs。 Lots of really good stuff in here - much more than just a business book or book on leadership。 。。。more

Inspiring and sophisticated journey of Robert which marked the beginning and ending of multiple eras in terms of cultural, media, and technology advances。 It seems so hard to learn the lessons but the way to work is so simple in the end after all。

Robert Iger really took you on a historical journey of Disney which was incredibly interesting。 At first, I was displeased that the book seemed to lack pretty much any depth in terms of lessons in leadership, but Iger made up for it while detailing his relationship with Steve Jobs, the Pixar acquisition, and more。 I was surprised by his willingness to 'out' certain people in the company, never shying away from using their full name and disclosing inappropriate work behavior, attitudes of the Boa Robert Iger really took you on a historical journey of Disney which was incredibly interesting。 At first, I was displeased that the book seemed to lack pretty much any depth in terms of lessons in leadership, but Iger made up for it while detailing his relationship with Steve Jobs, the Pixar acquisition, and more。 I was surprised by his willingness to 'out' certain people in the company, never shying away from using their full name and disclosing inappropriate work behavior, attitudes of the Board, etc。 I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys autobiographies but would encourage them to not purchase the large print edition as I did。 。。。more

Fantastic leadership and business book。 Bob Iger takes us through his entire career from the very bottom of ABC to getting to the top as CEO of Disney。 I really enjoyed his story telling and lessons。 This is a very digestible leadership book and has many great learnings about working with others, overcoming adversity and not being afraid to innovate。 I especially loved the stories about his deep friendship with Steve Jobs, which I never knew about。

You think you might work a lot then you read this。 Holy moly, what a machine! Book focuses on big picture goals and thinking rather than day to day。 Incredible amount of pressure to manage this organization。 Very interesting read。 Would recommend for some of my friends but can be a bit of a slog with all the name dropping and almost political nature of his work。

I really enjoyed this book。 Certainly an eye-opener。 Robert is a genius, I love how humble he is throughout the book。 To think many people didn't believe in him and how many times was he told to quit/resign。 I have mad respect for him, for pushing through all the madness。 It was a joy ride to read this book。 I really enjoyed this book。 Certainly an eye-opener。 Robert is a genius, I love how humble he is throughout the book。 To think many people didn't believe in him and how many times was he told to quit/resign。 I have mad respect for him, for pushing through all the madness。 It was a joy ride to read this book。 。。。more

I’ve wanted to read this book since it came out。 Disney is always one of the first companies of excellence that comes to my mind。 Bob is also a leader that I’ve always admired。 He took Disney to a new level。 This book is chalked full of his leadership advice that should be plastered all over my walls。 It also tells his side of the story on all major deals that took place and shared how he became CEO。 There is a power in friendship, creativity, and mentors in each story。 100/10 would recommend。

As a Disney fan, I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it。

It starts a little slowly as Iger tells us about his early life but eventually we get to the juicy bits in the second half - the Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Fox deals as well as the early days of Disney+ and how it came about。 Interesting if you’re a film or business book fan, and with some nice leadership insights at the end, but there’s nothing too outlandish or jaw-dropping… Which in hindsight is what you’d expect from someone who embodies the Disney mindset。

A great book to read and understand what real leadership is all about。 How true values and principles are as important as having a return on investment。 I totally agree that optimism, courage, focus, decisiveness, curiosity, fairness, thoughtfulness and integrity define true leadership。 Loved Robert Iger’s professional life story。

Philemon Johnson

This book has great insights on how Rob navigated the crucial leadership decisions of his career。 The last section of all the important lessons learned is a cherry on top。

I must admit that I have expected more from this book as Walt Disney has been always special in my hearts because I enjoyed watching its animations, especially The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and 101 dalmatians when I was a child。 Right after finished reading a book "Creativity" about Pixar by Ed Catmull, I was quite hopeful, however, It was not written with that creativity。From business standpoint, Walt Disney is a company like an empire and purchased great studios as Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfi I must admit that I have expected more from this book as Walt Disney has been always special in my hearts because I enjoyed watching its animations, especially The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and 101 dalmatians when I was a child。 Right after finished reading a book "Creativity" about Pixar by Ed Catmull, I was quite hopeful, however, It was not written with that creativity。From business standpoint, Walt Disney is a company like an empire and purchased great studios as Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm under his management。 Moreover, Bamtech deal provided great opportunities to them to build Disney+ which includes all contents of great studios I mentioned above。Lastly, I found this quote remarkable from Appendix, that says "Don't be in the business of playing it safe。 Be in the business of creating possibilities for greatness。" 。。。more

While this book is more (auto)biography than leadership / management as I had thought, I enjoyed it very much and learned lessons along the way。 The opening to the book (no spoilers but an intense time in Bob Iger's life) was one of the most emotional and insightful "peek behind the curtain" things I've ever read。I knew a small amount about Disney's history in the past 2 decades, but this book gives a firsthand look at it through the eyes of their CEO。 It's great to also hear about Bob Iger's ri While this book is more (auto)biography than leadership / management as I had thought, I enjoyed it very much and learned lessons along the way。 The opening to the book (no spoilers but an intense time in Bob Iger's life) was one of the most emotional and insightful "peek behind the curtain" things I've ever read。I knew a small amount about Disney's history in the past 2 decades, but this book gives a firsthand look at it through the eyes of their CEO。 It's great to also hear about Bob Iger's rise from small time and all of the people he met and imparted wisdom on him。 Seeing someone so accomplished but still grateful for others is something we can all aspire to。 He acknowledges when he could have done better or calls out mistakes he made。Overall this was a great book that can be read through at a good pace and a good appendix chapter to recap the lessons shared。 Recommend this book to others。 。。。more

Fascinating insight to Robert Iger’s career with some small snippets of his personal life。A book that is very safe, PC, polished。 However there are some useful leadership/management advice takeaways。

Two people I really respect recommended this book to me ages ago but I only finally read it this year。 I regret waiting so long, as this is really one of the best books on leadership, value establishment and professional execution I've ever read。 Told in a voice that is inspiring and clear, Iger's story avoids getting bogged down by too much self praise or navel gazing to get to the heart of the key lessons he wishes to impart。 I will return to this again and again as I continue in my career。 I Two people I really respect recommended this book to me ages ago but I only finally read it this year。 I regret waiting so long, as this is really one of the best books on leadership, value establishment and professional execution I've ever read。 Told in a voice that is inspiring and clear, Iger's story avoids getting bogged down by too much self praise or navel gazing to get to the heart of the key lessons he wishes to impart。 I will return to this again and again as I continue in my career。 I only regret that I never had the chance to work for him but hope to work for someone like him at some point in my life。 。。。more

Iger's book is a quick and enjoyable read, but it lacks the personality and vulnerability necessary for a truly great memoir。 Perhaps in his characteristic effort to be fair and balanced, Iger plays it safe on his depiction of periods of uncertainty, volatility and interpersonal conflict。Nevertheless, I'd recommend it as a fun history of Disney with some crisp takeaways on being a good leader。 On that note, the leadership lessons in this book can be more or less distilled down to a commitment to Iger's book is a quick and enjoyable read, but it lacks the personality and vulnerability necessary for a truly great memoir。 Perhaps in his characteristic effort to be fair and balanced, Iger plays it safe on his depiction of periods of uncertainty, volatility and interpersonal conflict。Nevertheless, I'd recommend it as a fun history of Disney with some crisp takeaways on being a good leader。 On that note, the leadership lessons in this book can be more or less distilled down to a commitment to quality and integrity。 Iger asserts himself as a zero-ego guy, incapable of getting rattled, with a steadfast focus on great work product。 There's very little mention of his personal life post-childhood, but given he gets up at 4 every day, I'm inferring it's pretty PG-rated。 You can see how this has benefitted his career - in an industry of characters (not literally), it was no doubt useful to call on Mr。 Reliability during periods of turmoil。 。。。more
