Always hoped to read this book。 I am glad I did。

This book is wonderul in it’s cause: giving deep perspectives on many everyday matters。 Some chapters are truly perfect and can be live changing。 However in many chapters it is rather difficult to grasp what the author is saying, making a great part of „The Prophet“ 'skipable‘。 This book is wonderul in it’s cause: giving deep perspectives on many everyday matters。 Some chapters are truly perfect and can be live changing。 However in many chapters it is rather difficult to grasp what the author is saying, making a great part of „The Prophet“ 'skipable‘。 。。。more

Beautiful prose but not much meaning。 Some of the essays are good enough, but most have as much depth as "Live, Laugh, Love" except they're in pretty flowery words。 In the end I even stopped appreciating the lirical prose because I was so frustrated with the lackluster content。Still, this is a really short book, so I encourage anyone to read it for themselves and see what they can make of it。 Beautiful prose but not much meaning。 Some of the essays are good enough, but most have as much depth as "Live, Laugh, Love" except they're in pretty flowery words。 In the end I even stopped appreciating the lirical prose because I was so frustrated with the lackluster content。Still, this is a really short book, so I encourage anyone to read it for themselves and see what they can make of it。 。。。more

A deeply moving and methodical tale of a prophecy-like figure lending his perspectives and vices。 It’s a beautiful testament to love and self-reflection。At some points, the prose was intense and vague, but I feel that added to the layers and overall depth of the story。Terrific piece of literature with much food for thought to offer。

I don’t know what I was looking for in this book。 I acquired it from my new classroom left behind by other fellow teachers。 I read it in one day and less than 12 hours。 So much insight on life。 Truly interesting to see how it could apply to society now。

For some reason I was expecting this to be a narrative similar to The Alchemist, probably because both of their names are "The + Spiritual Job Noun"。 I'd been hesitant to read The Prophet in the past, thinking that it was translated from Arabic and that I'd lose some of the meaning unless I had an especially good translation。 I know Rumi translations get criticized for this (https://twitter。com/persianpoetics/st。。。)。 Once I learned that Gibran wrote the original version of The Prophet in English For some reason I was expecting this to be a narrative similar to The Alchemist, probably because both of their names are "The + Spiritual Job Noun"。 I'd been hesitant to read The Prophet in the past, thinking that it was translated from Arabic and that I'd lose some of the meaning unless I had an especially good translation。 I know Rumi translations get criticized for this (https://twitter。com/persianpoetics/st。。。)。 Once I learned that Gibran wrote the original version of The Prophet in English, I decided to give it a whirl。The Prophet functions as a collection of poems about the stuff of life: Love, Work, Marriage, Friendship。 Some resonated, others didn't。 The Love one hit home for me (for obvious reasons)。 On Work is a classic。 They're all a good read for anyone looking to pause and reflect。On Love:"And ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation。" (pg。 7)。 You don't know what you got til its gone!"For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you。 Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning。 / Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, / So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth。" (pg。 9)"And think not that you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course。" (pg。 10)On Giving:"You give but little when you give of your possessions。 It is when you give of yourself that you truly give。 For what are your possessions but things you keep and guard for fear that you may need them tomorrow?" (pg。 16)On Work:"You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth。 / For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons, and to step out of life's procession that marches in majesty and proud submission towards the infinite。" (pg。 21) -- what does this say about us who work as "strangers unto the seasons"? I found that working in Fire I was connected to the particularities of weather and the seasons each day, and that working remotely I was immune to the weather and the seasons, each day unto the next in an air-conditioned or heated box。"Work is love made visible。 And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy。。。 For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man's hunger。" (pg。 23) This is my favorite quote of the bunch, the one I'd heard before that made me want to read the book in the first place。 I like to think about love as something "up there", something divine, something sacred, the motivating force of the universe, but it's also something "down here", in the ordinary, unspectacular flow of everyday life。 It's doing the dishes, it's cleaning up the dogs throw up so your mom doesn't have to, it's respecting a boundary。 It's "acta non verba", the Jesuit "en todo amar y servir"。 。。。more

Some amazing passages and quotes, my favourite of which about love and marriage were read at my wedding。 It's almost too much to read any more than one verse or prophecy at a time。 Each one deserves its own consideration over time。 Some amazing passages and quotes, my favourite of which about love and marriage were read at my wedding。 It's almost too much to read any more than one verse or prophecy at a time。 Each one deserves its own consideration over time。 。。。more

The Prophet is a book that has the ability to make you think about life, love, and religion in a completely different way。 It's eye-opening, heartwarming, and sometimes even humorous。Ghibran's writing style is truly unique, and it's hard to believe that this is his first novel。 The story is told through the eyes of several different characters, each with their own distinct voice。 This allows the reader to get a well-rounded view of the events unfolding, and also makes for a more engaging read。Th The Prophet is a book that has the ability to make you think about life, love, and religion in a completely different way。 It's eye-opening, heartwarming, and sometimes even humorous。Ghibran's writing style is truly unique, and it's hard to believe that this is his first novel。 The story is told through the eyes of several different characters, each with their own distinct voice。 This allows the reader to get a well-rounded view of the events unfolding, and also makes for a more engaging read。The Prophet tackles some heavy topics, but never feels preachy or didactic。 Ghibran has a gift for making complex ideas accessible to everyone, and his message of love and tolerance is one that, I think, we all need to hear。This is a book that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it。 It's a must-read for anyone who is searching for a deeper understanding of the world around them。 。。。more

“For what is it to die, but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?”It was good, but not earth shattering。 Perhaps the Prophet got over hyped for me。 There were a good handful of wise passages, but it wasn’t a text which gripped the very fabric of my soul as it seems most people find happens when they read this book。 A lot of it simply didn’t resonate with me, but I did place a handful of sticky tabs in its pages, so I understand that there is something here, perhaps for someone els “For what is it to die, but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?”It was good, but not earth shattering。 Perhaps the Prophet got over hyped for me。 There were a good handful of wise passages, but it wasn’t a text which gripped the very fabric of my soul as it seems most people find happens when they read this book。 A lot of it simply didn’t resonate with me, but I did place a handful of sticky tabs in its pages, so I understand that there is something here, perhaps for someone else。 3。5 stars, rounded up to 4。The following are a few of my favorite bits。”You are the way and the wayfarers。And when one of you falls down he falls for those behind him, a caution against the stumbling stone。Ay, and he falls for those ahead of him, who though faster and surer of foot, yet removed not the stumbling stone。”“And though you seek in garments the freedom of privacy you may find in them a harness and a chain。Would that you could meet the sun and the wind with more of your skin and less of your raiment,For the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind。”“Would that I could gather your houses into my hand, and like a sower scatter them in forest and meadow。Would the valleys were your streets, and the green paths your alleys, that you might seek one another through vineyards, and come with the fragrance of the earth in your garments。”“All you have shall some day be given;Therefor give now, that the season of giving may be yours and not your inheritors’。” 。。。more
