Summary

There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness。 These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh。 They are cannibals, vampires and monsters, and they walk among us。

These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair。 They are people living among society, going about their day to day activities until nightfall。 They are the Dennis Rader’s, the fathers, husbands, church going members of the community。

This A-Z encyclopedia of 150 serial killers is the ideal reference book。 Included are the most famous true crime serial killers, like Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Ramirez, and not to mention the women who kill, such as Aileen Wuornos and Martha Rendell。 There are also lesser known serial killers, covering many countries around the world, so the range is broad。

Each of the serial killer files includes information on when and how they killed the victims, the background of each killer, or the suspects in some cases such as the Zodiac killer, their trials and punishments。 For some there are chilling quotes by the killers themselves。 The Big Book of Serial Killers is an easy to follow collection of information on the world’s most heinous murderers。

A basic index of Serial Killers。

Lots of infoInteresting read with lots of info。 A lot of typos to distract which did bother me。 Overall, well done and enjoyable。

InterestingThis book was really interesting。 Ill probably read the second d one as well。 I just wish they would include real photos instead of sketches。

I went into reading this with mixed feelings, since it’s a dictionary type thing。 How readable can it be? Turns out that in a lot of ways, reducing murder down to the most important and interesting facts makes it almost more hard hitting。 Like the wide variety of killers, too。 Some I’d never heard of here。 Unexpected, but good read。

DNF。 There was a lot of repetitiveness and contradictory information and many of the cases were difficult to read through because it carried on and on。 I feel as though anyone interested in these cases would be better off reading news articles or even the Wikipedia page for the killer。

“What is this force that takes a hold of a person and pushes them over the edge?” This A-Z list of serial killers is both fascinating and terrifying。 The information is very clear and educational without being too descriptive or disgusting。 I did feel it was rather dry after a while, as it is not a novel but more of a dictionary。 I also wished for more photo evidence or information。 The hand drawn pictures of each serial killer made for a frustrating, albeit creepy visual。 All in all, this was “What is this force that takes a hold of a person and pushes them over the edge?” This A-Z list of serial killers is both fascinating and terrifying。 The information is very clear and educational without being too descriptive or disgusting。 I did feel it was rather dry after a while, as it is not a novel but more of a dictionary。 I also wished for more photo evidence or information。 The hand drawn pictures of each serial killer made for a frustrating, albeit creepy visual。 All in all, this was interesting and a good encyclopedia of some world renown serial killers。 。。。more

Certainly an informative read for people who are interested in true crimes

It was okay。 There wasn't really a lot of information about each individual killer。 I think the book would have been better if it had covered less murderers with more details about each。 There were several spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors as well that should have been caught by even a novice editor。 It was okay。 There wasn't really a lot of information about each individual killer。 I think the book would have been better if it had covered less murderers with more details about each。 There were several spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors as well that should have been caught by even a novice editor。 。。。more

Received as a gift from husband who knows my decades- long affinity to the true crime genre。 Perhaps I'm a bit jaded because I've watched, read, and listened to stories about serial killers, but this book fell short for some reason。It seems like a lot of important things are lacking in the profiles and replaced with less interesting details。 Received as a gift from husband who knows my decades- long affinity to the true crime genre。 Perhaps I'm a bit jaded because I've watched, read, and listened to stories about serial killers, but this book fell short for some reason。It seems like a lot of important things are lacking in the profiles and replaced with less interesting details。 。。。more

While the list is interesting, I was missing some names, maybe I'll find them in the second book, which I'm going to read next。While reading, I found that sometimes the timelines were a bit mixed up。 Also here and there words are missing while on other occasions some words were there twice。 Maybe another round of proof reading could have helped there ;)Sometimes the characteristics given are a bit weird, and sometimes I couldn't see much connection between them and what was written afterwards。St While the list is interesting, I was missing some names, maybe I'll find them in the second book, which I'm going to read next。While reading, I found that sometimes the timelines were a bit mixed up。 Also here and there words are missing while on other occasions some words were there twice。 Maybe another round of proof reading could have helped there ;)Sometimes the characteristics given are a bit weird, and sometimes I couldn't see much connection between them and what was written afterwards。Still, the book is interesting, so I'm giving the second book a chance。 。。。more

A huge collection of serial killers。 Some are familiar, but most are not。 It is amazing how many serial killers I never knew existed that operated under the media radar。 Information on their cases, victims, and the final sentencing。 If you are interested in learning more about serial killers this is your book。🐱🐱🐱🐱

This reads like something a kid in high school would put together if they wanted to grow up and be a profiler - it would be fine for a kid to do (maybe a little questionable, haha), but I assume Jack is an adult who went to college, but he's hiding it really well。 There was an A to Z serial killer book (I read it in the late 1990s) that was a million times better than this - it explained more, it defined more。 This book was literally less than you would get on a Wikipedia page for any of these k This reads like something a kid in high school would put together if they wanted to grow up and be a profiler - it would be fine for a kid to do (maybe a little questionable, haha), but I assume Jack is an adult who went to college, but he's hiding it really well。 There was an A to Z serial killer book (I read it in the late 1990s) that was a million times better than this - it explained more, it defined more。 This book was literally less than you would get on a Wikipedia page for any of these killers, and the Wikipedia pages are probably written better。 The only bonus of this book was that there were some more recent serial killers mentioned。 Thank God this was free on Amazon, it's not worth any amount of money。 。。。more

As someone who has an unhealthy obsession with true crime, this was really interesting。 It was pretty annoying though that there was an imbalance of information - some killers would have pages of information, but others would leave out a lot of details。 It would've been a lot better if they provided some information on suspects (of unsolved murders) and why they were suspected rather than just a dot point list。 As someone who has an unhealthy obsession with true crime, this was really interesting。 It was pretty annoying though that there was an imbalance of information - some killers would have pages of information, but others would leave out a lot of details。 It would've been a lot better if they provided some information on suspects (of unsolved murders) and why they were suspected rather than just a dot point list。 。。。more

I'm pretty weird, but this fell kind of in the morbid and creepy category for me。 It's all of the most gruesome details, in laundry list format。 Useful as a reference, I suppose, but doesn't go into enough detail about any one killer to actually study, analysis, or attempt to understand the thought patterns or crime characteristics, so that laundry list feels a little (extra) ghoulish。I enjoyed that he including interesting trivia tidbits, but mostly I would stick to more in-depth accounts from I'm pretty weird, but this fell kind of in the morbid and creepy category for me。 It's all of the most gruesome details, in laundry list format。 Useful as a reference, I suppose, but doesn't go into enough detail about any one killer to actually study, analysis, or attempt to understand the thought patterns or crime characteristics, so that laundry list feels a little (extra) ghoulish。I enjoyed that he including interesting trivia tidbits, but mostly I would stick to more in-depth accounts from other authors。 。。。more

This book gives you a quick reference to 150 serial killers。 It provides data such as birth, childhood (if known), number of victims, names of victims, capture, and outcome of said serial killer。 I gave it 3 stars because the book I obtained had a lot of grammatical errors and also some questionable facts。 I also didn’t like that there wasn’t a list of references to where this information was gleaned。 Most factual non-fiction books will provide a reference area to list out resources used to obta This book gives you a quick reference to 150 serial killers。 It provides data such as birth, childhood (if known), number of victims, names of victims, capture, and outcome of said serial killer。 I gave it 3 stars because the book I obtained had a lot of grammatical errors and also some questionable facts。 I also didn’t like that there wasn’t a list of references to where this information was gleaned。 Most factual non-fiction books will provide a reference area to list out resources used to obtain information for the book。 From other books I’ve read about specific serial killers I’d say most of the information was factual but I took the rest with a grain of salt。 I don’t want to purchase book 2 because of the above disappointments but there were a few serial killers I know about who weren’t listed in book 1 (Kendall Francois, Amelia Dyer etc) and am curious if they are in book 2。 Still on the fence。 Will take time to think about it。 。。。more

Like so many people I have a thing for the macabre - from Netflix documentaries to podcasts to books。  The Big Book of Serial Killers had been on my wishlist for a while and on a whim I decided to buy it。I'm not sure what I expected from the book but to put it simply, this is more of a summary of each killer - there's nothing that you can't find from a simple Wikipedia search, e。g。 name, aka's, location, number of killings。  I feel like this is a book for someone perhaps writing a dissertation o Like so many people I have a thing for the macabre - from Netflix documentaries to podcasts to books。  The Big Book of Serial Killers had been on my wishlist for a while and on a whim I decided to buy it。I'm not sure what I expected from the book but to put it simply, this is more of a summary of each killer - there's nothing that you can't find from a simple Wikipedia search, e。g。 name, aka's, location, number of killings。  I feel like this is a book for someone perhaps writing a dissertation on serial killers as it's more of a quick reference guide and ideal for statistics。  Overall, it is a good book for people looking for a reference guide but not overly suited to avid readers。 。。。more

I don’t believe I’ve ever felt my time more disrespected by a book。 The rare moments when it wasn’t riddled with grammatical, spelling, or syntax errors, it still reads like a 6th grader’s book report hastily written just before first bell, since homework’s being collected first period。 I’ve never beheld such lazy or inconsistent formatting or editing。 I’m teetering on genuine feelings of offense。 The only positive thing I can say about this book is that it was free with Amazon Prime, sparing m I don’t believe I’ve ever felt my time more disrespected by a book。 The rare moments when it wasn’t riddled with grammatical, spelling, or syntax errors, it still reads like a 6th grader’s book report hastily written just before first bell, since homework’s being collected first period。 I’ve never beheld such lazy or inconsistent formatting or editing。 I’m teetering on genuine feelings of offense。 The only positive thing I can say about this book is that it was free with Amazon Prime, sparing me a complete rip off, save the time investment now lost to me forever。 That, and the few and far between useful and interesting tidbits on certain murderers can now be mentally filed away for further research into books or films that actually respect their subject matter, as well as their readers。 。。。more
