Summary

In hardcover for the first time comes the second novel in the Witcher saga by bestselling author Andrzej Sapkowski, in which Geralt of Rivia sends his ward Ciri to train with the sorceress Yennefer, even as trouble stirs within the Wizard's Guild。

Geralt is a Witcher: guardian of the innocent; protector of those in need; a defender, in dark times, against some of the most frightening creatures of myth and legend。

His task, now, is to protect Ciri。 A child of prophecy, she will have the power to change the world for good or for ill—but only if she lives to use it。

Since its first publication in Poland almost three decades ago, The Witcher series has become a New York Times and international bestseller, has inspired a hit Netflix show and multiple blockbuster video games, and has transported millions of fans to an epic world of magic and adventure。 Now you can enjoy the series for the first time in hardcover!

Well, I'm on the fence on this one。 This is a difficult book to review as it has few unique styles being put forward like the book starting with a riddling line which the story ends with, while what makes it bad is none of the original lore that sets The Witcher to stand out are used in this book - no monster hunts, just one boring monster description over sea, not many short stories; mostly long rants。 This book's focus in on politics, war, socio-political issues and long monologues。 Not on mon Well, I'm on the fence on this one。 This is a difficult book to review as it has few unique styles being put forward like the book starting with a riddling line which the story ends with, while what makes it bad is none of the original lore that sets The Witcher to stand out are used in this book - no monster hunts, just one boring monster description over sea, not many short stories; mostly long rants。 This book's focus in on politics, war, socio-political issues and long monologues。 Not on monster hunting, short story telling, Geralt's scruples。Hopefully, Sapkowski has better story arc in store in the The Baptism of Fire。 。。。more

This has been my least favourite of the series so far。 The main character is missing for a huge chunk, there’s no monsters or tales of witchery antics anywhere (a big reason why I initially enjoyed the short stories) and the female characters are so one dimensional that it was painful to read at times (they’re not allowed to be anything other than a nymphomaniac, a cold hearted bitch, or both)。 If I hadn’t already played the games and watched the series, I might have given this 2 stars but I did This has been my least favourite of the series so far。 The main character is missing for a huge chunk, there’s no monsters or tales of witchery antics anywhere (a big reason why I initially enjoyed the short stories) and the female characters are so one dimensional that it was painful to read at times (they’re not allowed to be anything other than a nymphomaniac, a cold hearted bitch, or both)。 If I hadn’t already played the games and watched the series, I might have given this 2 stars but I did enjoy shit hitting the fan during the conclave so I suppose it did give me something to look forward to as the TV series progresses。 。。。more

Felt like this was largely dominated by political maneuvering and setting up the next phase of the series。 Excited to see where it goes from here but mostly felt like a giant info dump to set up deeper context for what comes next。 Hopefully it pays off。

Another fast paced ride in the world of the Witcher。 Geralt has met his match, Ciri is on the run and Yennefer goes MIA all while the Continent goes to war。 Can’t wait to jump into the fifth book。 A colorful cast of characters and unique perspectives build this world to new heights。

Another excellent installment of The Witcher series。 The stories grow ever more complex and the characters ever more intriguing and unique。 This is one of those series that you could purchase all of the books ahead of time time and know that you will enjoy them。 I love the story, the characters, and the narrator。 (Listened to the audio version) Highly recommend。
