Summary

The plots are really good, the story telling, the writing is exquisite。 BUT Iwas left starving for the romance between the main character and her love interest。 They didn't even get to say the words "I love you" to each other。。 that's how shy everything was about them。 It could've been an epic book, but it's still a hood one。 The plots are really good, the story telling, the writing is exquisite。 BUT Iwas left starving for the romance between the main character and her love interest。 They didn't even get to say the words "I love you" to each other。。 that's how shy everything was about them。 It could've been an epic book, but it's still a hood one。 。。。more

The story of two girls – Mina and Lynet – cursed by one magician being in their lives。 Mina’s story takes place before Lynet’s as she is her stepmother, but it all works well together。More in the tone of Disney’s “Brave” and “Frozen” where the relationship between mother and daughter/sisters are examined and celebrated。Lynet does find love in the young surgeon at the castle, Nadia, but it’s new and sweet and not the centre of the story。I liked that they had power over that which is part of them The story of two girls – Mina and Lynet – cursed by one magician being in their lives。 Mina’s story takes place before Lynet’s as she is her stepmother, but it all works well together。More in the tone of Disney’s “Brave” and “Frozen” where the relationship between mother and daughter/sisters are examined and celebrated。Lynet does find love in the young surgeon at the castle, Nadia, but it’s new and sweet and not the centre of the story。I liked that they had power over that which is part of them thanks to the magician they are cursed to know。A good Snow White retelling with a great twist。 。。。more

I love Fairy tale retelling, and I thought this was amazing。 It had all the classic elements, with a good mixture of more mystical and modern aspects。

I didn't realize this was YA before I picked it up, and for that reason I was a bit disappointed。 I had read that this book had Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber vibes, but it lacks the lush adjectives, and it quite frankly, suffers from the diction and style of a lower reading level。That being said, it has its charms。 The concept is creative, and it has LGBT representation。 I would recommend this book to teenage girls who like dark fairy tales, but be warned that there is a level of violence t I didn't realize this was YA before I picked it up, and for that reason I was a bit disappointed。 I had read that this book had Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber vibes, but it lacks the lush adjectives, and it quite frankly, suffers from the diction and style of a lower reading level。That being said, it has its charms。 The concept is creative, and it has LGBT representation。 I would recommend this book to teenage girls who like dark fairy tales, but be warned that there is a level of violence that not all parents would find appropriate for younger teenagers。 。。。more

I saw this book recommended and decided to check it out。 Normally I don’t read fantasy novels but this book—identified as a feminist reimagining of Snow White—captured my interest。 The characters were complex and the storyline was unexpected。 I found myself aligning with the disempowered female co-conspirators and longed for their eventual success。I enjoyed this book。

Entertaining, Lovely, and Heartfelt。 I found myself engrossed right from the beginning。 The development of Mina's character was intriguing。 I enjoyed learning how she stepped into her stepmother role。 The way we dove into Mina's character through the retelling of her actions taken before and after her marriage to the King of Whitespring, was simply sweet and salty all wrapped into one funsize bite。 Learning about Lynet, how she had grown up feeling like a shadow to her mother's memory, how she n Entertaining, Lovely, and Heartfelt。 I found myself engrossed right from the beginning。 The development of Mina's character was intriguing。 I enjoyed learning how she stepped into her stepmother role。 The way we dove into Mina's character through the retelling of her actions taken before and after her marriage to the King of Whitespring, was simply sweet and salty all wrapped into one funsize bite。 Learning about Lynet, how she had grown up feeling like a shadow to her mother's memory, how she never wanted to disappoint her father, how she struggled with trying to find out who she really was, just made my heart break and yet glued me back together。 The double perspective kept the entire book moving forward even if some chapters dove into the past。 At the end of it all, I definitely understood the Snow White comparisons, but I even found myself comparing it to Frankenstine。 The concept of nature vs。 nurture was certainly woven into this。 Would these two ladies behaved or chosen the paths that they did naturally or was it all based on their upbringing by their fathers? Hhmmmm。。。 。。。more

a unique and imaginative retelling and reimagining of Snow White。

So… why isn’t Lynet and Mina the endgame? I guess Nadia is alright but she basically does nothing in the book。 I really like Felix though。 Ugghh。 But Lynet stroking Mina’s hair and telling her how much she loves her was just so beautiful that makes everyone else seems extra。 Overall it’s a pretty cute story and I enjoyed it。

2。5 starsThe premise of this modern Snow White retelling is clever。 Lynet, our Snow White character, is a princess literally made of snow in the dead queen's image。 She is trapped and expected to live out a life that was already planned for her。 Mina, her stepmother, still has connections to the infamous mirror on the wall, but it is because she is akin to the glass with her own heart made out of it as well。 She has been told she can never love or be loved, but she is determined to find love, wh 2。5 starsThe premise of this modern Snow White retelling is clever。 Lynet, our Snow White character, is a princess literally made of snow in the dead queen's image。 She is trapped and expected to live out a life that was already planned for her。 Mina, her stepmother, still has connections to the infamous mirror on the wall, but it is because she is akin to the glass with her own heart made out of it as well。 She has been told she can never love or be loved, but she is determined to find love, which she thinks she can have with the recently widowed king。 The story switches off between Lynet and Mina's perspectives, from Mina's rise to queen to her fight to keep the crown。Girls Made of Snow and Glass humanizes these classic fairytale characters, shaping them in a realistic way to understand their motivations and perspectives。 It's a great idea that I thought was executed just okay。 The story was fine but did not have me racing through it。 It was a pleasant story that is nowhere near as interesting as its original。 。。。more

I was intrigued by this retelling of Snow White with a bit of Frozen also in there, but it just didn't deliver。 It was pretty dark and depressing overall, with not much to redeem it。 I was intrigued by this retelling of Snow White with a bit of Frozen also in there, but it just didn't deliver。 It was pretty dark and depressing overall, with not much to redeem it。 。。。more

3。75/5 (rounded up for GR)This book was a good read。 I found the main characters, Mina (the Stepmother) and Lynet (Snow White), as compelling women of their own merit with unique twists to the Snow White story we all know。 The title plays heavily into the story, which always is a bonus in my eyes。 The feminist themes and dynamic (complicated) of two women made incomplete by the selfish actions of men in their lives carried the story through its premise。 Additionally, how the narrative splits bet 3。75/5 (rounded up for GR)This book was a good read。 I found the main characters, Mina (the Stepmother) and Lynet (Snow White), as compelling women of their own merit with unique twists to the Snow White story we all know。 The title plays heavily into the story, which always is a bonus in my eyes。 The feminist themes and dynamic (complicated) of two women made incomplete by the selfish actions of men in their lives carried the story through its premise。 Additionally, how the narrative splits between a "past" timeline and a "present" timeline to accurately flesh out the main characters in all their flawed glory worked nicely for the set-up。Worldbuilding had a lot of potential underutilized。 I have a similar critique about the romantic elements involved, but less so since the story focus on unconventional and "impossible" love。 Outside of Mina, Lynet, Nadia, and Felix, most of the characters were meh, and the lack of villains did cause some issues。 The final problem was that the inciting incident isn't until way into the book, so readers who want a fast read or are not the most patient might be frustrated with this book。 In all, I liked the book and loved the ending (no spoilers)。 I found myself relieved with how the tension was diffused and how the story stayed true to its feminist reimagining roots。 Definitely worth renting or checking out! 。。。more
