Summary

I don’t ever want to hear a bad word about this book。 It was perfect! I will write a full review another time, I’m starting the next book right now。

A solid follow-up to the alloy of law, that essentially takes up where the previous one leaves off。 Super fast pace and highly enjoyable read and I cant wait to start up book 3 in preparation to finish up the series with the lost metal

4。5 stars。 I reread this recently and while not as plotted as tightly as Alloy of Law, it was still very good。 It has been long enough that I forgot many of the major plot points until right before they were revealed。 Steris is my favorite。

No, la libertad no era la ausencia de responsabilidad: era ser capaz de hacer lo que estaba bien, sin necesidad de preocuparse porque también pudiera estar mal。

This one was better than the first one, it's pretty similar in all the things but it's just a bit better in all。 The characters start to develop and we are able to see some old characters from Era 1。 And this book feels more cosmere connected than the first one but it's still a more thriller focused book than the usually epic one。Wax and Wayne are an amazing cast of characters, they really act like old friends who have known each other for a lifetime, the fact that they make fun of each other ha This one was better than the first one, it's pretty similar in all the things but it's just a bit better in all。 The characters start to develop and we are able to see some old characters from Era 1。 And this book feels more cosmere connected than the first one but it's still a more thriller focused book than the usually epic one。Wax and Wayne are an amazing cast of characters, they really act like old friends who have known each other for a lifetime, the fact that they make fun of each other half the time but at the first appearance of problems they are ready to help each other in a way that is almost heartwealming。 They remind me a bit Locke and Jean but clearly not developed in the same way also due to the pages used。 。。。more

(4。5 stars) I didn’t enjoy the Marasi stuff much in this book and prefer the 4th Mistborn book but this one was still amazing!!

So happy Brando decided to continue this series。 I enjoyed getting to know the characters more。 More fun times I enjoyed every second of, what more is there to say?

The twists, THE TWISTS!!Full review to come

3。5 ⭐️ I need to reread this in the future I expected something else when I originally came into this series (era 2) and I think upon reread I’ll enjoy it more, plus I love Brandy Sandy but let’s be honest it ain’t no stormlight archives you feel me?? Those are just…。 A masterpiece of pure brilliance and while mistborn era 2 is still good it’s just not giving the epic scope I was expecting

That twist at the end had me shook。 I can’t believe Sanderson had me fooled, AGAIN lol!

Compared to Alloy of Law, this books mystery and plot was far more connected to elements of the first trilogy, which made me as a reader a lot more interested。Wayne keeps on being the funniest guy ever and the emotions/twists were good。

I've read all of mistborn till this book, all of stormlight archive and almost everything in Arcanum unbounded and this is the worst book by Sanderson so far。It's just worth reading because of Cosmere's Lore。 I've read all of mistborn till this book, all of stormlight archive and almost everything in Arcanum unbounded and this is the worst book by Sanderson so far。It's just worth reading because of Cosmere's Lore。 。。。more

How could I not give Shadows of Self 5 Stars! The banter was so so good。 Wayne is hilarious, I adore him。 The action was amazing。 The mystery was super intriguing。 A tight plot, not too long or boring at all。 And the ending - holy!!! I’m so amazed by Sanderson。 I am shook。 I’m not ok。 Harmony!! what a twist。 I’m so curious to see what’s next for Wax and the gang。

Shadows of Self is the fifth installment in the Mistborn Saga and one of the middle books in the second era of the saga featuring Waxillium Ladrian, and his sidekick Wayne。 While the first installment in this series (The Alloy of Law (The Mistborn Saga #4)) tended to be a mystery thriller, and introduced some of the guidelines for this world, Shadows of Self goes full speed ahead with worldbuilding。To be fair, Shadows does build on the foundation described in Ally of Law, but it also takes it to Shadows of Self is the fifth installment in the Mistborn Saga and one of the middle books in the second era of the saga featuring Waxillium Ladrian, and his sidekick Wayne。 While the first installment in this series (The Alloy of Law (The Mistborn Saga #4)) tended to be a mystery thriller, and introduced some of the guidelines for this world, Shadows of Self goes full speed ahead with worldbuilding。To be fair, Shadows does build on the foundation described in Ally of Law, but it also takes it to a whole new level, expanding the alloy aspects and adding a religion and deity system。 The worldbuilding in this story installment is my biggest issue。 It seems forced, with the author wanting to use the deity system for the basis of the story, but forcing into the story, trying to make it fit。 Because of this, I felt the beginning and middle of Shadows of Self to be awkward, more of an info dump with an antagonist and events happening to support the world, rather than the other way around。 Perhaps part of the problem is that I haven’t read the original three stories。I liked the development of some of the other characters, particularly Wayne and Steris Harms, Waxillium's betrothed。 Marasi Colms, the character who seems to be Wax’s soulmate continues to be developed, but now faces stiff competition because of how her half-sister Steris is developed。 This sets up an interesting plot, which I’m sure will be developed in subsequent stories。 Rounding out the roster is a rather mundane antagonist, Bleeder or Paalm, who is portrayed as insane and bent on her own agenda。 Another deity, MeLaan, helps the character and provides some comic relief。 She was introduced in the initial trilogy, which I haven’t read, but I do find her intriguing and a reason to explore that series。 Rounding out the main cast is the up-and-coming police official Claude Aradel , and a cameo by Wax’s uncle Edwarn Ladrian, who appears to be the uber villain behind this series。I found that the story slightly slow in the middle and probably not enough time spent on the antagonist for my tastes。 I think that the motivation for her crimes seems to be vague at the beginning, although she is introduced in an interesting fashion, harkening back to Wax’s past。 Perhaps it is the idea of a “grand design” for the story world that doesn’t interest me as much as the actual actions that the characters accomplish。Overall, I enjoyed Shadows of Self。 I didn’t do myself any favours by picking up the series starting the overall series at the fourth story, but I still enjoyed the chronicle overall。 I give it a strong four of five strs on Goodreads。 。。。more

。。more

Increíble final。 Brandon nunca me fallas。

As I finish another of Sanderson's books amongst the Cosmere, I can't help to be amazed by how increduble it's turning out to be。 When I first started with the mistborn saga, I wouldn't believe that a literary universe could evolve in such a way as Scadrial has in the first 5 books。Once again, Wax, Wayne and Marasi turned out to be incredible characters to follow along the unraveling of the story, and I was amazed by their growth since the beginning of era 2。Although I said in my alloy of law re As I finish another of Sanderson's books amongst the Cosmere, I can't help to be amazed by how increduble it's turning out to be。 When I first started with the mistborn saga, I wouldn't believe that a literary universe could evolve in such a way as Scadrial has in the first 5 books。Once again, Wax, Wayne and Marasi turned out to be incredible characters to follow along the unraveling of the story, and I was amazed by their growth since the beginning of era 2。Although I said in my alloy of law review that the original crew wasn't missed, I got to admit that it was quite nice to see more of their influence in Scadrial and it's society。 In the same note, it was quite interesting to see Harmony interact and get wrapped with the characters while showing small glimpses of what's happened to Sazed after more than 300 years since his ascension。Now I'll be forced to wait to read book 6, since my shipping is expected to arrive on October, but I can't deny I'm pretty hyped since book 7 is also coming out soon。 。。。more

4。5 Stars ⭐️ And the plot thickens… Sanderson definitely gave his crazy plot twists for this one。 I didn’t get enough of my girl Steris though! In the last book I didn’t care much for her, but a few scenes in this book changed that。 She’s hilarious!

Shadows of Self is a wild adventure, yet it's also a deep exploration of grief, love, and the existential questions we have when we experience tragedy。 The characters are beautifully complex。 The plot is rich and enticing。 The world is spectacular。 I highly recommend it。 I will say that people who are grieving the loss of a loved one may find this book emotionally challenging。 There are also themes of suicide—just something to keep in mind。 Shadows of Self is a wild adventure, yet it's also a deep exploration of grief, love, and the existential questions we have when we experience tragedy。 The characters are beautifully complex。 The plot is rich and enticing。 The world is spectacular。 I highly recommend it。 I will say that people who are grieving the loss of a loved one may find this book emotionally challenging。 There are also themes of suicide—just something to keep in mind。 。。。more

Man, this one was a ride。This book had some of the nuance that I was looking for from Alloy of Law and honestly just feels like we're starting to get deeper into the meat of the plot。 I also love some of the conversations they had in this book regarding religion and the roles it plays in their lives。 The return of hemalurgy, his conversations with and about Harmony, and the fall out of all of this have set this up for much higher stakes than where we originally landed in book one。 I still think Man, this one was a ride。This book had some of the nuance that I was looking for from Alloy of Law and honestly just feels like we're starting to get deeper into the meat of the plot。 I also love some of the conversations they had in this book regarding religion and the roles it plays in their lives。 The return of hemalurgy, his conversations with and about Harmony, and the fall out of all of this have set this up for much higher stakes than where we originally landed in book one。 I still think my favorite part of this series, from a pure enjoyment perspective, is how the history set by the first era of Mistborn has been complicated and changed through time。 Especially considering the actual presence of Era 1 characters and the way they talk about their experiences really shows the complications and the tendencies people have to immortalize history in ways that gloss over the complications that made them human。 And hearing Vin referred to by her first name by someone who actually knew her gave me all kinds of feelings。I also really loved how Marasi came into her own in this book。 Watching her work behind the scenes within the machinations of the constables, as well as sharing her political savvy, it really added an interesting edge to her appearances that wasn't present in Alloy of Law and helped her feel like she was actually pushing the narrative forward rather than just being present。I do still wish we had more of Steris - even if it's just like a small POV chapter for her - as she is still my favorite, but I'm looking forward to Bands of Mourning as I've heard we get a lot there。 And I'm interested in seeing where this plot those, and how these conversations will continue。 。。。more

Such an enjoyable series and continuation of the Mistborn saga。 Wax and Wayne are to Vin and Elend what Korra is to Aang。 Shadows of Self builds on the delightful cast introduced in Alloy of Law and attempts to add depth to the main characters while expanding the overarching plot。A solid 4。5 star book。 All books in this series are excellent and I enjoyed reading (hearing) it again。
