I had already read and liked the short story on which the Demon in the Wood graphic novel is based, but of course, as a Grishaverse fan, I had to grab this new version of it too。 And I'm glad I did, as this is a lovely book。 It's a quick read (I was through it in barely 30 mins), but it was fun to see the tale brought to life through Dani Pendergast illustrations。 Even if, like me, you already have a copy of the short story on your shelf, you will want to grab the graphic novel version too for y I had already read and liked the short story on which the Demon in the Wood graphic novel is based, but of course, as a Grishaverse fan, I had to grab this new version of it too。 And I'm glad I did, as this is a lovely book。 It's a quick read (I was through it in barely 30 mins), but it was fun to see the tale brought to life through Dani Pendergast illustrations。 Even if, like me, you already have a copy of the short story on your shelf, you will want to grab the graphic novel version too for your collection。 I would love to see more episodes from the Darkling's early life presented in this way, perhaps working through to link things up to the beginning of the Shadow and Bone series。 It gets 5 stars from me。 。。。more

I really love the Shadow and Bone series。 But this graphic novel was a little bit of a let down for me。 I was excited to learn of the Darkling's backstory but this just wasn't what I expected。 I really love the Shadow and Bone series。 But this graphic novel was a little bit of a let down for me。 I was excited to learn of the Darkling's backstory but this just wasn't what I expected。 。。。more

I never liked the Darkling in the books but Ben Barnes' portrayal of him changed my mind。 I didn't even know about this graphic novel before I saw it at work today and casually read it in between when there were no customers around^^It's a nice read for fans of the Grishaverse but it really could've been more detailed。 The art was okay, not bad but I've seen better。 Everything about it was pretty average。Bonus points because I share a name with a character (which about never happens, at least in I never liked the Darkling in the books but Ben Barnes' portrayal of him changed my mind。 I didn't even know about this graphic novel before I saw it at work today and casually read it in between when there were no customers around^^It's a nice read for fans of the Grishaverse but it really could've been more detailed。 The art was okay, not bad but I've seen better。 Everything about it was pretty average。Bonus points because I share a name with a character (which about never happens, at least in books written originally in English)^^ 。。。more

This was a fun quick read/listen。 The audiobook was a full cast and only an hour so it went by way to quick。 The graphic novel was 220 something pages so now I feel I need to check that out。 Any chance to dive back into Ravka is great for me。

This is very short, and can be read in one sitting。 I absolutely loved it, the Darkling is one of my favourite characters from the Grishaverse。 A detailed review to come!

The art is so beautiful and the story is amazing。 The book forces you to remember that the Darkling is human。

I loved it so much。 I read it a few months ago and now with this version and the audiobook it was a thousand times better。 The voice actors were amazing and the sound effects incredible。

I am getting better at being able to track graphic novels。 They certainly read more quickly - I think I still prefer ereaders and traditional novels and short stories。 That being said, Demon makes me want to dig deeper into the Grisha-verse!

I really enjoyed this but the ending was SO ABRUPT。 I feel like it was advertised as the darklings backstory but it was really just a short story about the darkling before he became the darkling。 Def wouldn’t read if you haven’t read anything else in the grishaverse because then the ending would make zero sense。

this art was so pretty 🫶🏼

I'm being generous with my rating, cause I really liked the artwork。 But that was a completely pointless story, it gave us nothing new。 Not about his personality, or Baghra's。I'm sure there's something interesting to explore about the long past of the Darkling (that includes the creation of the Second Army!), cause we've had intriguing glimpses all the way to Rule of Wolves, but that wasn't it。 That was just a nicely packaged anecdote, and I can tell Bardugo wrote this a decade ago。 She could h I'm being generous with my rating, cause I really liked the artwork。 But that was a completely pointless story, it gave us nothing new。 Not about his personality, or Baghra's。I'm sure there's something interesting to explore about the long past of the Darkling (that includes the creation of the Second Army!), cause we've had intriguing glimpses all the way to Rule of Wolves, but that wasn't it。 That was just a nicely packaged anecdote, and I can tell Bardugo wrote this a decade ago。 She could have come up with much better。So yeah, it felt a bit like a cash grab。 And I'll probably keep falling for that。。。 。。。more

"I would burn a thousand villages, sacrifice a thousand lives to keep you safe。"This was a gorgeous graphic novel adaptation of the short story。 Like many others, I fell in love with The Darkling, and was so curious about his origin story。 This gives us a bit of background on him and his mother, as they travel from village to village, trying to not get found out for what they are。 The art was breathtaking and complemented the story perfectly。 "I would burn a thousand villages, sacrifice a thousand lives to keep you safe。"This was a gorgeous graphic novel adaptation of the short story。 Like many others, I fell in love with The Darkling, and was so curious about his origin story。 This gives us a bit of background on him and his mother, as they travel from village to village, trying to not get found out for what they are。 The art was breathtaking and complemented the story perfectly。 。。。more

I enjoy the Grishaverse but have only read the first trilogy and a bit of Six of Crows。 This graphic novel is a short prequel story about the Darkling as a young boy traveling with his mother。 Beautiful art, but okay story。 I'm not sure how much it truly adds to the Darkling's story overall but I did enjoy it and I recommend it for fans of Leigh Bardugo。 3。5 stars rounded up for the art。 I enjoy the Grishaverse but have only read the first trilogy and a bit of Six of Crows。 This graphic novel is a short prequel story about the Darkling as a young boy traveling with his mother。 Beautiful art, but okay story。 I'm not sure how much it truly adds to the Darkling's story overall but I did enjoy it and I recommend it for fans of Leigh Bardugo。 3。5 stars rounded up for the art。 。。。more

I first read this story back when it was included at the end of Ruin and Rising but the way that Dani and Leigh were able to transform this book into this graphic novel was like reading it again for the first time

JOINED ANNIKA AND BAGHRA HATE CLUB。 baghra couldn’t be a worse mother, she is the worst character in all of the books。 first she raises sasha the way she does and then when he acts the way she taught him to she is all “you are so evil, why are you so evil” like。 idk ma’am, maybe you TRAINED HIM HIS ENTIRE LIFE TO ACT THIS WAY。 like connect two dots, don’t be shy。and a special thank you and i love you note to my amore mio, my jade❤️‍🩹

This doesn't feel like a particularly special or original story。 It is, however, a beautifully-illustrated story that will surely appeal to fans of the Grishaverse who can't help but want more! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is not exactly the same as the original written story。 They added a side story about a bear amplifier and how Annika discovered Aleksander is an Amplifier。Also, in the story, Aleksander didn’t like onions, not turnips。Still, the illustrations were not bad。

It being a graphic novel was pretty cool。 Would of loved if the story was longer, but it was great as is!
