Picture book, for Spanish practice。 Charming story。 No English translation。
Jane Andris,
I am playing around on goodreads to learn more about how this works。 Amos and Boris is a wordy (William Steig is always wordy!) but delightful book about two dear friends。 I always read it to my students on the last day of school。
June,
An ocean loving mouse builds a boat and goes for a voyage。 Amos is saved by a whale after he falls overboard。 They become friends and years later Amos is able to save Boris。Rounded up because I always like when someone little rescues someone big even if it is only because he has larger friends。

I love William Steig's books and have read Dr。 DeSoto and Sylvester and the Magic Pebble to our kids countless times。 But how in the world did I miss out on this book? It's a great story about friendship and kindness (a lion and the mouse similarity) and the vocabulary is rich and interesting。 Lovely book! Nancy,
Lately I have been reading some children's books so I can give appropriate gifts to little ones, and I find myself loving them so much more that I expected! I am borrowing from Kathryn's review below because I just can't say it better - I loved this book! Thomas,
I was reorganizing my bookshelf and I came across this book that my mom would read to me when I was a young child, and I gave it a read again。 Such a beautiful book and it helped bring me a sense of hope in an unhappy time for me。
Madhusree,
I am down to reading children's books now and as books go, this was good。 I love the idea of helping out, no matter who we are-- even a mouse and a whale can be of help to each other。 I am down to reading children's books now and as books go, this was good。 I love the idea of helping out, no matter who we are-- even a mouse and a whale can be of help to each other。 。。。more

Andrea Librarian,
Amos & Boris is wonderful。 I read a big article in the New Yorker about Steig and was intrigued enough to pick up the books of his that we owned that I hadn't read。 This one is a treat。 It is so much like real life - you have something happen to you, you meet someone because of this and form a bond, but you both realize that it's likely you'll never see each other again, but if you do, that bond is still there。 I love that both Amos and Boris are happy to go out of their way to help the other。 I Amos & Boris is wonderful。 I read a big article in the New Yorker about Steig and was intrigued enough to pick up the books of his that we owned that I hadn't read。 This one is a treat。 It is so much like real life - you have something happen to you, you meet someone because of this and form a bond, but you both realize that it's likely you'll never see each other again, but if you do, that bond is still there。 I love that both Amos and Boris are happy to go out of their way to help the other。 It's just beautiful。 Add to that story Steig's signature illustrations and you have a classic on your hands。 。。。more
Paige Fulkerson,
This is a great book about friendship! I think it can represent how people from completely different walks of lives and who have completely different backgrounds can have so much in common and can form a really strong friendship! This also speaks a lot about serving your friends and being there for them when they are in need of that!
Michael Thieme,
Well I'm honestly not sure what to think of this book。 I really liked it, and I was moved by the story and the honestly quite sad ending。 But overall, I'm not sure who this book is for。 The pictures, the cute animals, and the theme of friendship all seem to give off the impression that this is a book meant for younger children, yet the complex sentences present and dense paragraphs on a single page make me honestly confused。 I obviously didn't dislike the book, but I felt like if I read this boo Well I'm honestly not sure what to think of this book。 I really liked it, and I was moved by the story and the honestly quite sad ending。 But overall, I'm not sure who this book is for。 The pictures, the cute animals, and the theme of friendship all seem to give off the impression that this is a book meant for younger children, yet the complex sentences present and dense paragraphs on a single page make me honestly confused。 I obviously didn't dislike the book, but I felt like if I read this book to students of any age less than 4th grade, they may come away confused from the more complex paragraphs, and any students in 4th grade probably wouldn't want to be read picture books like this。 So I don't know。 But I did still really like it, so I guess if nothing else this book is for me。 。。。more

A charming story, fancifully written, about the unlikely-but-enduring friendship between a little mouse and a big whaleIt speaks to how you hold some people in your heart always, even if you are very different and have only met a few times, and especially if you have met during a crisis。

Kelly,
I enjoyed the story。 It was very sweet。 A whale and a mouse befriend each other in two different times of crisis。I did think that the book was just a little bit wordy, but it was still a nice story。
wendy cortright,
Amos and Boris is a sweet book about great friends who help one another。 This could be fun to pair with The Lion and the Mouse and work with the class on comparing and contrasting the stories。
