Summary

'On the afternoon that Esther Wilding drove homeward along the coast, a year after her sister had walked into the sea and disappeared, the light was painfully golden。'

The last time Esther Wilding's beloved older sister Aura was seen, she was walking along the shore towards the sea。 In the wake of Aura's disappearance, Esther's family struggles to live with their loss。 To seek the truth about her sister's death, Esther reluctantly travels from lutruwita, Tasmania to Copenhagen, and then to the Faroe Islands, following the trail of the stories Aura left behind: seven fairy tales about selkies, swans and women, alongside cryptic verses Aura wrote and had secretly tattooed on her body。

The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding is a sweeping, deeply beautiful and profoundly moving novel about the far-reaches of sisterly love, the power of wearing your heart on your skin, and the ways life can transform when we find the courage to feel the fullness of both grief and joy。

In the Seven Skins of Esther Wilding, Holly Ringland has created another masterpiece as profoundly moving as The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart。 This is an achingly beautiful tale of courage, self-discovery and healing。 Ringland merges myth with mystery as Esther attempts to uncover what lead her fierce sister to walk towards the ocean and never return。 From the wilds of the Tasmanian coast to Copenhagen and the remote Faroe Islands, her journey is haunting and unforgettable。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Gonna keep it short and sweet。 This could have been mindblowing。 Instead it was above average。 Why? There is a kind of big continuity issue revolving around the Kópakonan statue。 2008 + maximum of 4 years does not equal after 2014 when the statue was erected。。。Otherwise it was fine。 Emotionally charged and diving deep into women issues ala Alice Hart, it was a good read。 But me being me, I couldn't fully enjoy it because of the statue thing。 First 270 pages were great, everything afterwards was Gonna keep it short and sweet。 This could have been mindblowing。 Instead it was above average。 Why? Such a beautiful story about loss, grief, sisterhood, family and forgiveness。 When it comes to depicting natural imagery set in Australia, Holly Ringland is hands-down my favourite author。 There is such a magical quality to her writing--this book was so very atmospheric and I loved the settings of the novel to bits。

This is a gorgeous, big, sweeping novel - the kind that you can fully lose yourself in。 It made me laugh and cry in turns, and was so absorbing, emotional, compelling, earthy, funny, truthful - I loved it。 And some characters I found just so hard to let go of: Queenie, Nin, Abalone, Sophus, Heidi, Flósi - and of course Esther herself, as she goes through her painful 'getting of wisdom', gradually understanding that grief and joy can be held together。 Just gorgeous。 This is a gorgeous, big, sweeping novel - the kind that you can fully lose yourself in。 It made me laugh and cry in turns, and was so absorbing, emotional, compelling, earthy, funny, truthful - I loved it。 And some characters I found just so hard to let go of: Queenie, Nin, Abalone, Sophus, Heidi, Flósi - and of course Esther herself, as she goes through her painful 'getting of wisdom', gradually understanding that grief and joy can be held together。 Just gorgeous。 。。。more

Well this was beautiful。 This is a story about sisters, family, and a journey through grief。 Yes, it is sad。 But life is sad, and there is always beauty to be found。 It took me a bit of time to get into, but once I was in I was there, in the moment, loving the adventure。 The thing about Holly’s books, for me, is that I can always relate to them in one way or another。 I feel included。 It’s not a binge read。 It’s one to sip slowly。 The closer I got to the end, the slower I read, because I didn’t w Well this was beautiful。 This is a story about sisters, family, and a journey through grief。 Yes, it is sad。 But life is sad, and there is always beauty to be found。 It took me a bit of time to get into, but once I was in I was there, in the moment, loving the adventure。 The thing about Holly’s books, for me, is that I can always relate to them in one way or another。 I feel included。 It’s not a binge read。 It’s one to sip slowly。 The closer I got to the end, the slower I read, because I didn’t want it to be over。 I’m sad now, because I miss my new friends。 I keep wondering how they’re going。 It reminds me of Still Life in that way。 Some other fun themes include: tattoos, fairytales, story telling, Denmark adventures If you loved Alice, you will love this equally ❤️ 。。。more
