Summary

Very dark but fascinating story。 Interesting characters and and post-apocalyptic (I think) world。 I loved seeing Vin's transformation。 Sazed was my favorite character。 I want a book about his people and their origin story and survival。 Sometimes the oppression of the skaa dragged me down, but the ending is hopeful, and I can't wait to continue with the series。 Very dark but fascinating story。 Interesting characters and and post-apocalyptic (I think) world。 I loved seeing Vin's transformation。 Sazed was my favorite character。 I want a book about his people and their origin story and survival。 Sometimes the oppression of the skaa dragged me down, but the ending is hopeful, and I can't wait to continue with the series。 。。。more

Excellent world-building (my favorite part of any fantasy story), a cast of characters that are easy to get attached to, and a decently interesting plot。 Can't wait to read the next book in the series。 Excellent world-building (my favorite part of any fantasy story), a cast of characters that are easy to get attached to, and a decently interesting plot。 Can't wait to read the next book in the series。 。。。more

I was hesitant to start this book。 Like a lot。 Because I’ve read so many long books in a row。 But goodness gracious this was awesome。 I read the last 200 pages in a marathon while Tim watched me gleefully。 So many twists and revelations and the very end was almost perfectly paced。 Didn’t drag or cut too short。 Book had a solid resolution on its own, but I guess I’ll have to read the trilogy。 I liked the character growth of the Vin。 I was fascinated by the religious focuses throughout the novel。 I was hesitant to start this book。 Like a lot。 Because I’ve read so many long books in a row。 But goodness gracious this was awesome。 I read the last 200 pages in a marathon while Tim watched me gleefully。 So many twists and revelations and the very end was almost perfectly paced。 Didn’t drag or cut too short。 Book had a solid resolution on its own, but I guess I’ll have to read the trilogy。 I liked the character growth of the Vin。 I was fascinated by the religious focuses throughout the novel。 I was annoyed by the romance though, it felt unnecessary but also a crutch? But that was my only complaint。 I can look past it for how good the plot, story, and universe were。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A good novel。 Very technical, a bit slow, but always interesting。 The magic system is somewhat confusing for me, but that's what the legend is for, right? I liked the characters, though most of the crew is a bit simple and straightforward。 So far Vin and Elend are my favorites。 Kelsier is fun, but I have a hard time getting a read on him。 Wish we could have seen more from the Lord Ruler, tho。 Overall, a 4。7/5 book。 A good novel。 Very technical, a bit slow, but always interesting。 The magic system is somewhat confusing for me, but that's what the legend is for, right?

When a book is very much fantastical, you tend to think that this is not real。 But with this book that thought had never appeared, I was completely engrossed。I did have a bit of difficulty getting through it, not because it wasn't good but because of how much information I would have to remember and contain to actually appreciate the whole story。 I did get through it, although I don't think saying through it really justifies my experience with this book。 To describe it in simple terms, when thin When a book is very much fantastical, you tend to think that this is not real。 But with this book that thought had never appeared, I was completely engrossed。I did have a bit of difficulty getting through it, not because it wasn't good but because of how much information I would have to remember and contain to actually appreciate the whole story。 I did get through it, although I don't think saying through it really justifies my experience with this book。 To describe it in simple terms, when thinking of classics in the future this will be one。 。。。more

Loved the concept of metallic powers! I strongly believe Kaz Brekker & Kelsier would hit it off instantly。 I immediately liked all the crew members。 However, I had a hard time adjusting Vin's character。 Loved the concept of metallic powers! Page turner, fantastic magic system, and love-able but realistic characters。

Thrilling plot, heist + overthrow government = serotonin。 Kelsier best DILF, argue with a wall。

Brilliant fiction。 The ending is satisfying but leaves me wanting to read more about the world。 A nice and refreshing change from the frustrating cliffhangers of many other fantasy series

3rd time reading it through and still just as good。 Sanderson creates such an amazing world

I would say perhaps the thing that really works against this book is pacing, because to put it quite bluntly, it felt like a slog to get through for the first half of this novel。 I do think so much of the earlier sections were spent putting all the pieces in their right places that the plot itself moved along at a snail's pace and it felt like nothing was really happening。 By the time the third act kicks off, things definitely move along much faster to great effect, but it would have been nice i I would say perhaps the thing that really works against this book is pacing, because to put it quite bluntly, it felt like a slog to get through for the first half of this novel。 I do think so much of the earlier sections were spent putting all the pieces in their right places that the plot itself moved along at a snail's pace and it felt like nothing was really happening。 By the time the third act kicks off, things definitely move along much faster to great effect, but it would have been nice if this energy was more evenly distributed throughout the book because I'm not entirely convinced the gratification was worth the initial punishment。 The most intriguing part of this novel to me were the systems of Allomancy and the tease of Feruchemy。 Anytime spent learning about these were fascinating, because you could really tell that there was much care put into their structures and development。 I'm curious to see how these are expanded upon going forward and the novel's ending made it clear things are going to be shaken up in an intriguing manner going forward。 For those reasons alone, I see the value in continuing with this series, but once again, I must say this was a bit of a tedious starting point and I'm going to need a break before I return。 。。。more

a bit bumpy in the first 3rd, there was a lot of exposition and training montage-like action that felt very much like video game mechanics。 Once it settles in though there is some very cool world building and I find myself wanting to learn more about how the world got the way it is and what is going on behind the scenes。

You will want to be a Mistborn yourself after you are done with this book。 Such is the world created by Brandon Sanderson。 The two lead characters Vin and Kelsier were also well written and you travel with their emotions。 This is not a page turner if that is what you are looking for。 But the tension builds slowly, steadily and booms at the ending。 If you have read other Sanderson books, the pattern might look familiar。 The characters themselves explore the magic system by trying and that moves t You will want to be a Mistborn yourself after you are done with this book。 Such is the world created by Brandon Sanderson。 The two lead characters Vin and Kelsier were also well written and you travel with their emotions。 This is not a page turner if that is what you are looking for。 But the tension builds slowly, steadily and booms at the ending。 If you have read other Sanderson books, the pattern might look familiar。 The characters themselves explore the magic system by trying and that moves the story forward too。 Overall, a good character driven fantasy plot with one of the best magic systems。 Just can’t wait to start the second book。The details about different types of magic is an icing on the cake。 。。。more

I’m not really a fantasty-genre kind of guy, but oh man, this book was fantastic。Mistborn is beautifully written, most eloquently detailed, and incredibly captivating。 The well-developed characters and super interesting and ever-changing plot make for an amazing read。 And as Kelsier (one of the main characters in the book) always says, “There’s always another secret”Definitely recommend this to anyone who’s either already really into fantasy books or is willing to try out a new genre Happy readi I’m not really a fantasty-genre kind of guy, but oh man, this book was fantastic。Mistborn is beautifully written, most eloquently detailed, and incredibly captivating。 The well-developed characters and super interesting and ever-changing plot make for an amazing read。 And as Kelsier (one of the main characters in the book) always says, “There’s always another secret”Definitely recommend this to anyone who’s either already really into fantasy books or is willing to try out a new genre Happy reading :) 。。。more

I was absolutely sucked into this book。 Brandon Sanderson is quickly cementing himself as an all time favorite author of mine。 The worlds he creates are both believable and fascinating, with layers of social hierarchies and deep characters who develop quite well over the course of the story。 The protagonist was excellent, and Vins growth from a damaged and beat down Skaa girl into a powerful Mistborn had me enthralled。 I can’t wait to dig into the rest of this series, as well as the rest of the I was absolutely sucked into this book。 Brandon Sanderson is quickly cementing himself as an all time favorite author of mine。 The worlds he creates are both believable and fascinating, with layers of social hierarchies and deep characters who develop quite well over the course of the story。 The protagonist was excellent, and Vins growth from a damaged and beat down Skaa girl into a powerful Mistborn had me enthralled。 I can’t wait to dig into the rest of this series, as well as the rest of the Cosmere。 Im heavily invested now。 。。。more

Sanderson's worldbuilding and magic systems are remarkably fresh in a franchise that is notoriously trapped in the same archetypes。 He also has an excellent twist near the end of the story。 While his writing style won't win any awards, his strengths shine in other avenues。 Overall, Mistborn was a fun read and an exciting change of pace! I think every time I finish a Brandon Sanderson novel I kick myself for waiting so long to read it。The first in Sanderson's acclaimed Mistborn fantasy series, this book had me actively engaged from start to finish。 Despite its length (24+ hours on Audible), I blasted through it in a single weekend。 I definitely made some noises out loud as things were revealed in the story (earning me strange looks from my husband 😜)。 The plot is fascinating and constantly unwinding with the various twists and t I think every time I finish a Brandon Sanderson novel I kick myself for waiting so long to read it。The first in Sanderson's acclaimed Mistborn fantasy series, this book had me actively engaged from start to finish。 Despite its length (24+ hours on Audible), I blasted through it in a single weekend。 I definitely made some noises out loud as things were revealed in the story (earning me strange looks from my husband 😜)。 The plot is fascinating and constantly unwinding with the various twists and turns。 The magic system is unique and complex but easy for the reader to follow。 The main characters are deep, easy to relate to/root for, and are forced to face both internal and external battles。 Amongst the "good guys," there isn't always full agreement, which leads to a more interesting and layered story。 Great book, and now I can't wait to start the next in the series! 。。。more
