My first Brian k。 Vaughan work。 The art is clean and easy to follow。 355 is one of my favorite characters of all time and i hope to get ampersand the monkey tattooed one day。 It was a action packed post apocalyptic ride through a world where all the men have died except 1。 It's a page turner and the ending had me in tears。 My first Brian k。 Vaughan work。 The art is clean and easy to follow。 355 is one of my favorite characters of all time and i hope to get ampersand the monkey tattooed one day。 It was a action packed post apocalyptic ride through a world where all the men have died except 1。 It's a page turner and the ending had me in tears。 。。。more

Disappointing to be honest。 I'd been wanting to read this for about 10 years after a librarian friend recommended it to me。 I spent the cash and got the omnibus for about $500。 Turns out, it's more of a 'what a man thinks the world would be like if all the men died'。 Women don't speak, think or act like the women in this comic。 At times, the language is very cringe!Studies have shown that women get over losing their husbands easier than the other way around。 It's because women confide in one ano Disappointing to be honest。 I'd been wanting to read this for about 10 years after a librarian friend recommended it to me。 I spent the cash and got the omnibus for about $500。 Turns out, it's more of a 'what a man thinks the world would be like if all the men died'。 Women don't speak, think or act like the women in this comic。 At times, the language is very cringe!Studies have shown that women get over losing their husbands easier than the other way around。 It's because women confide in one another, so we are are to find that emotional support outside of a relationship。 Men are less likely to have emotional conversations with their male friends and rely on their partner。 This is why you often see men remarry soon after losing their wife。 This makes a lot of the book seem ridiculous such as women killing themselves at a far higher rate than is likely。It was interesting reading it today, 20 years after it was written, as it shows how far women have come in this time。 You're far more likely to find women in the occupations deemed as 'male only' in this comic。 That was some lovely reassurance。 It's a gripping enough story though。 If you're a fella you might like it! But please know that it's written by a man and is thus pure fantasy。 。。。more

75/100I got this looking for a cool gender-exploring post-apocalyptic story, and while it's not quite what I wanted it is a pretty fun and bright and usually successfully funny。 The main characters are very charming, and I like their relationships。 There are also interesting thoughts on a women-ran world, though it's not to the extent I would want。 The idea of a world with only women is actually really interesting to think about, and I like the way the story rolls with it。 While there are a few 75/100I got this looking for a cool gender-exploring post-apocalyptic story, and while it's not quite what I wanted it is a pretty fun and bright and usually successfully funny。 The main characters are very charming, and I like their relationships。 There are also interesting thoughts on a women-ran world, though it's not to the extent I would want。 The idea of a world with only women is actually really interesting to think about, and I like the way the story rolls with it。 While there are a few eye-rolling moments, it generally tends to handle the subject with respect, treating women as the flawed humans they are。 Anyone that may claim a world without men would be a utopia is likely so ingrained in patriarchal gender roles that they can't come to see that women can also be corrupt, murderous, hateful, and human。 I wish the tone could be a little darker personally, I wish the ending was a little more fleshed out and satisfying, I wish they didn't say the R-word so much。 Overall a pretty fun story though。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Not a fan of how much the author used “fag” and “retard。” I found 355’s death frustrating as well as Beth and Yorick’s reunion。

SOOOOO much of this was like a 4 star series。 But there was also SOOOOO much in the last volume specifically that was just SOOOOO annoying and all the little things that had been bothering me previously all just came together in the last volume and just OMG。I actually don't think I would recommend this series to people。 There are so many better series out there。 Ones that don't leave plot holes and that actually have a satisfying ending。 SOOOO many things were just left unanswered and if they we SOOOOO much of this was like a 4 star series。 But there was also SOOOOO much in the last volume specifically that was just SOOOOO annoying and all the little things that had been bothering me previously all just came together in the last volume and just OMG。I actually don't think I would recommend this series to people。 There are so many better series out there。 Ones that don't leave plot holes and that actually have a satisfying ending。 SOOOO many things were just left unanswered and if they were answered they were not very well done。 Like SOOOO much annoys me with this series that I kinda wanna give it a 2 stars。 But I read the whole 10 volumes so I was obviously invested。 The main plot was intriguing overall but it's the other smaller plots throughout that were like WTF。 Also the answer to the main plot in the end was like WTF。 Overall this series is kinda a big WTF 。。。more

The story ends at the right time, just as it’s rhythms threatened to get stale。 Emotional and thrilling。

Guerra’s artwork is striking throughout, but the real mastery, as always, is BKV’s storytelling。The narrative loses its way briefly in the middle, but certainly finds itself by the end。Compelling。

One of the best series of all time。 Fantastic, start to finish。

Una historia sobre un evento apocalíptico。 Nos narra las peripecias de Yorick Brown durante 5 años de su vida después de ser el último hombre vivo。 Bonito dibujo y bonita historia。 Recomendado

I started this around the same time the TV show debuted。 Both had their quirks。 The characters seemed to be well made and had neat little arcs。

Maybe not the best ending, but its damn great writing。 It felt real。

1400+ pages of incredible writing and art! What feels like 1400lbs of paper- not sure what's gonna feel this the longest: my heart from it's power, or my forearms from holding this ENORMOUS book up as I read nonstop for the past 3 days, ha! Yorick isn't perfect, and he's often not even hero。。。 But that's the story。 A truly unique post apocalyptic story。 Read this NOW!! 1400+ pages of incredible writing and art! I loved reading Brian K。 Vaughan « Saga » series, so I had high expectations for this one。 And it delivered。 It's a long and wild ride。 Interesting to see the change in graphics。 Clearly worth your time reading this one。 I loved reading Brian K。 Vaughan « Saga » series, so I had high expectations for this one。 And it delivered。 It's a long and wild ride。 Interesting to see the change in graphics。 Clearly worth your time reading this one。 。。。more

Shouldn’t have taken me so long to finish, but I chose the omnibus edition, and it was a pain to lug around, so… I read in bursts。All in all, I found it entertaining。 I found the concept interesting, however, I have no idea how anyone reading this issue by issue was able to keep the character backgrounds and story arcs straight - because I found myself flipping back several times to figure out who someone was or what caused a current scene - but… I figured it out eventually (most of the time)。Th Shouldn’t have taken me so long to finish, but I chose the omnibus edition, and it was a pain to lug around, so… I read in bursts。All in all, I found it entertaining。 I found the concept interesting, however, I have no idea how anyone reading this issue by issue was able to keep the character backgrounds and story arcs straight - because I found myself flipping back several times to figure out who someone was or what caused a current scene - but… I figured it out eventually (most of the time)。The ending felt a bit incomplete - as did many of the explanations along the way。For future re-reads (if they occur), I‘ll have to keep a closer eye on the timeline because the story took place over 5 years (and then 60 years later), but reading it as a completed collection - rather than issue by issue - made things feel a bit more compressed and didn’t carry the weight of a years’ long journey。Additionally, while I enjoyed reading “Y: The Last Man,” doing so in 2021 was probably a different experience in comparison to reading it when it first came out (some language choices and usage of gendered/cultural stereotypes were a bit outdated and cringe)…In the end: Would I recommend it? Sure。 。。。more

I originally read Y The Last Man in trade paperbacks years ago now, but I decided to re-read this in omnibus format due to the TV series starting earlier this month。Y The Last Man is a dystopian story at heart。 After a mysterious plague kills everything with a Y chromosome on Earth we follow the sole surviving male human, Yorick Brown and his pet monkey, Ampersand as they navigate a very different world from the one they knew before。There's no getting away from the fact that Y The Last Man is no I originally read Y The Last Man in trade paperbacks years ago now, but I decided to re-read this in omnibus format due to the TV series starting earlier this month。Y The Last Man is a dystopian story at heart。 After a mysterious plague kills everything with a Y chromosome on Earth we follow the sole surviving male human, Yorick Brown and his pet monkey, Ampersand as they navigate a very different world from the one they knew before。There's no getting away from the fact that Y The Last Man is now considered classic reading by an incredible amount of readers and there's good reason for that。 Not only is the premise brilliant, but the art and writing are superbly delivered。Where this book really shines though, apart from having a great plot, is that it's not afraid to pick apart preconceptions, share real facts and ask some difficult questions regarding gender and it's relevance in modern society。If you've not read this yet, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it all sounds really heavy and preachy, but that's the magic here - it's far from it。 It's clear from the very start that the book is driven by it's incredible story and emotions not it's agenda, which means it all flows incredibly naturally - a monumental achievement of writing with everything considered。The artwork is undoubtedly impressive with some standout cover art created for the single issues, all of which are all included in this omnibus format too。Personally, I think Y The Last Man is probably one of the most important comic books of my generation。 Not only is it an absolute shining example of what great writing can achieve within the medium of comics, but it's also bold, gets you really thinking and most importantly does this in an all inclusive way, which seems to be all the more rare these days。 Ratings for individual story arcs as presented in this format:Unmanned - 5/5Cycles -5/5One Small Step - 5/5Safeword - 5/5Ring of Truth - 5/5Girl on Girl - 5/5Paper Dolls - 4/5Kimono Dragons - 4/5Motherland - 4/5Whys and Wherefores - 5/5 。。。more

Read this in a week。 Some may argue that the ending is a little weak but I just enjoy the universe and the story and adventure that Brian K Vaughan brought me。 The story is still relevant Even in 2021!

Excellent premise, interesting ideas, great feminist slant。 Dialog is sophomoric or dated in spots, with characters constantly calling each other things like "ass munch" and the like。 I didn't like the heartbreaking and unfair ending one of the characters got, but i guess it served the story - just not enough to make that worth it。 Totally worth reading, especially as a reference for the new TV show based on it, which does alter some things in (so far) good ways。 Excellent premise, interesting ideas, great feminist slant。 Dialog is sophomoric or dated in spots, with characters constantly calling each other things like "ass munch" and the like。 I didn't like the heartbreaking and unfair ending one of the characters got, but i guess it served the story - just not enough to make that worth it。 Totally worth reading, especially as a reference for the new TV show based on it, which does alter some things in (so far) good ways。 。。。more

I guess the story is good enough, but I don't feel like it really took advantage of the GRAPHIC part of the graphic novel。 It would have had the same impact as a written book without the graphics, really。 Hence the mediocre rating。 I guess the story is good enough, but I don't feel like it really took advantage of the GRAPHIC part of the graphic novel。 It would have had the same impact as a written book without the graphics, really。 Hence the mediocre rating。 。。。more

I have not read another comic for more than a decade and decided to read this because there is a TV show being made from this material and it has been highly rated, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it。It's amazing that a man could write such a feminist story。 I think that if you are a good man who don't see why a woman would not like you for your gender, after reading this book you will understand why that may be, even if other men have not hurt the woman who is giving you hate。 Even if you don I have not read another comic for more than a decade and decided to read this because there is a TV show being made from this material and it has been highly rated, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it。It's amazing that a man could write such a feminist story。 I think that if you are a good man who don't see why a woman would not like you for your gender, after reading this book you will understand why that may be, even if other men have not hurt the woman who is giving you hate。 Even if you don't care for the messaging, you will enjoy the amazing globe trotting adventure that spans several years。You will meet secret agents (agent 711 is pretty awesome), a ninja, Burka assassins, a badass Russian with bad but sexy English, sub-mariners, pirates, the Israeli military, the Australian military, drug runners, aborinis, a colony of convicts, and much more, it's quite an adventure。Comics is not a format that I have enjoyed for a long time, maybe I will go back to it just by picking the most highly rated stories out there。 I think I will read Saga next。 。。。more
