Summary

Soma Yukihira’s old man runs a small family restaurant in the less savory end of town。 Aiming to one day surpass his father’s culinary prowess, Soma hones his skills day in and day out until one day, out of the blue, his father decides to enroll Soma in a classy culinary school! Can Soma really cut it in a place that prides itself on a 10 percent graduation rate? And can he convince the beautiful, domineering heiress of the school that he belongs there at all?!

The battle of the Fall Classic preliminaries comes to a thundering close! Can Soma conjure up a curry masterpiece brilliant enough to surpass a dish from the master of fragrance, Akira Hayama? Volume also includes a bonus story about the adventures of a certain someone during her lazy summer vacation。

Okay, gonna put this out there, I started reading this series around Jan 4th after seeing the anime season 1 and thought I'd get into it, sped through it and got the entire series read before last the end of last night。I really dislike that this series ended the way it did, the plot, the comedy, the characters。 All of then are decently presented and the ar tis sublime on the signature dishes and the side scenes。 And I was hoping that I'd get a great story, there was SO much build up of things, f Okay, gonna put this out there, I started reading this series around Jan 4th after seeing the anime season 1 and thought I'd get into it, sped through it and got the entire series read before last the end of last night。I really dislike that this series ended the way it did, the plot, the comedy, the characters。 All of then are decently presented and the ar tis sublime on the signature dishes and the side scenes。 And I was hoping that I'd get a great story, there was SO much build up of things, from things with Soma and his dad to the others。 But that ending man, damn that ending ruined it for me。Less Erina and more Alice is always better in my view and the interludes of Soma using his past of working with people and helping others raises this effort more but its still flagging。 。。。more

We get a short little break before diving right into the Fall Classic tournament! It's difficult to talk about this without spoiling the match-up and theme, but the set-up and tone of it all reminds me very much of Iron Chef and I'm excited to see where it goes。 We get a short little break before diving right into the Fall Classic tournament! After months of pure suffering, we're back with more Food Wars!。 jOy。 I had to re-read Volume 7 to remember what happened last but that's not the point。 Anyway, the last volume ended with the preliminaries round of the Fall Classic。 Everyone presented their curry dishes except -epic drumroll- Soma and Akira。 And since they're both important characters to the storyline, they both got spots in the Fall Classic。The main point of this volume was about round 1 of the Fall Classic。 Which was bento box After months of pure suffering, we're back with more Food Wars!。 jOy。 I had to re-read Volume 7 to remember what happened last but that's not the point。 Anyway, the last volume ended with the preliminaries round of the Fall Classic。 Everyone presented their curry dishes except -epic drumroll- Soma and Akira。 And since they're both important characters to the storyline, they both got spots in the Fall Classic。The main point of this volume was about round 1 of the Fall Classic。 Which was bento boxes。 I think they're like a lunch box with compartments。 (Sorry if I offended anyone with that description of bento boxes。) I think that this manga is aMaZiNg with cliffhangers because there's one in almost EVERY -bleep- VOLUME! LIKE WHY CAN'T WE SEE SOMA'S MAIN POINT OF HIS BENTO!? WHY DO I HAVE TO SPEND $10 ON VOLUME 9, JUST FOR AMAZON TO SAY THAT IT WON'T BE SHIPPED FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS-Sorry, I just hate cliffhangers。 But oH wElL -dRaMtIc SiGh-I don't think I said anything good about this volume yet even though I gave it 4 stars-。 uMmmMmM。I honestly thought Megumi and Soma teaching those children how to cook was so cute。 That should have been added to the anime tbh。 Maybe they should teach me how to cook。 I'm a kid。 But those kids can probably turn on ovens but I can't。 I'd end up burning the whole place down。 But of course, the adults will pay for the damage。 I'll make sure they do。。。cOuGh CoUgH。 Anyway, I thought this volume was good。 And now we must wait like 2 months for volume 9- 。。。more

3。75-4 of 5 starsI went straight into this volume after finishing #7。 I'd rate it higher but some of it felt like filler and the story arc wasn't complete by the end。 I am hoping they don't take 2 more volumes and stretch it out forever。。。maybe I'm a little impatient。 Overall though, I'm still all in with this series! 。。。more

Cute bit where Soma and Megumi are doing the cooking class, but this is mostly about the fall classic and bento。 Man, I want to eat this food。。。。

Loved the added bonus material in this one that was not in the series。 The food class for kids as well as Erina's summer break were both awesome。 Loved the added bonus material in this one that was not in the series。 The food class for kids as well as Erina's summer break were both awesome。 。。。more

Continues to be fun。 Not surprised overall at who makes it to the quarterfinals of the Fall Classic, but I'm not a fan of the late-game surprise at introducing yet another big antagonist (and we don't learn anything about them except that they make the final 4)。Love seeing the Polaris crew and how they support each other。 Yuki is so cute and cheerful。 Continues to be fun。 Not surprised overall at who makes it to the quarterfinals of the Fall Classic, but I'm not a fan of the late-game surprise at introducing yet another big antagonist (and we don't learn anything about them except that they make the final 4)。Love seeing the Polaris crew and how they support each other。 Yuki is so cute and cheerful。 。。。more

Once again, a great issue。 Nice to see into Alice's background a bit and get to know her a little more as a character。 I also enjoyed, once again, all the information about food。 I love how you feel like your'e learning about how different foods work, all while merely enjoying the story。 As someone who will head for culinary school next spring, I love it。I also loved the little flashback into Soma's childhood and how bento boxes have a special meaning for him。 I can't wait for the next one! Now that this series is in the middle of its first big tournament arc, the action picks up and it gets really exciting。 Soma still gets his lion share of haters, but he might just score a huge win which of course is not revealed immediately because the main story chapters end in a cliffhanger。 But the reader will get a pretty good feeling that Soma isn't sitting this one yet。 Now that this series is in the middle of its first big tournament arc, the action picks up and it gets really exciting。 Soma still gets his lion share of haters, but he might just score a huge win which of course is not revealed immediately because the main story chapters end in a cliffhanger。 But the reader will get a pretty good feeling that Soma isn't sitting this one yet。 。。。more

We finally get to see the main character's dish for the first round of the Fall Classic, and once again he surprises the readers as well as the judges, with something that seems simple on the surface, but worked out in such a way as to be surprising。In addition, this volume includes two "filler" stories that are a treat。 One is the story that got left out of volume 7, about how one of the characters spends vacation time, but the other is a side story about two of the characters learning importan We finally get to see the main character's dish for the first round of the Fall Classic, and once again he surprises the readers as well as the judges, with something that seems simple on the surface, but worked out in such a way as to be surprising。In addition, this volume includes two "filler" stories that are a treat。 One is the story that got left out of volume 7, about how one of the characters spends vacation time, but the other is a side story about two of the characters learning important things about themselves and about life outside of cooking school。The second round of the Fall Classic begins, and we get more insight into the reasoning behind the main character's recipes。 Another very good volume。 。。。more

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma!, Vol。 8 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next eight chapters (58–65) of the on-going manga series with one bonus story。The Fall Classics Preliminaries concludes as Akira Hayama's fish-head curry soupe en croute with a pot pie cover made of naan bread scores a 94。 Sōma Yukihira's curry risotto omurice scores a 93, but three of the five individual scores were higher than Akira's。 An unnamed student knocks Zenji Marui and Shun Ibusaki out Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma!, Vol。 8 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next eight chapters (58–65) of the on-going manga series with one bonus story。The Fall Classics Preliminaries concludes as Akira Hayama's fish-head curry soupe en croute with a pot pie cover made of naan bread scores a 94。 Sōma Yukihira's curry risotto omurice scores a 93, but three of the five individual scores were higher than Akira's。 An unnamed student knocks Zenji Marui and Shun Ibusaki out of the competition。Polaris Dorm celebrates the first-years success at the preliminaries with a party。 Satoshi Isshiki takes Sōma and Megumi Tadokoro to help teach making fried pot stickers to a group of preschool-to-second grade kids。Later, the first quarterfinals of The Fall Classics have Sōma challenging Alice Nakiri with the theme being a bentō。 Alice presents temari (ball-shaped) sushi in her bento。 Sōma presents a seaweed-based bentō, and is reminded of his past when he was helping deliver a bentō to an elderly woman。This tankōbon is written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki。 It concludes the Fall Classics Preliminaries and starts the quarterfinals with Sōma Yukihira vs。 Alice Nakiri with bentō central to their challenge。 There is a quaint and welcome break in-between where Satoshi Isshiki takes Sōma and Megumi Tadokoro to teach elementary school children to cook pot stickers。All in all, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, Vol。 8 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more。 。。。more
