Summary

The Way of Men answers the question: “What is Masculinity?”

The so-called experts give the answers that suit their masters。 They tell just-so stories to protect their ideology, their religion, their way of life。 They look to women for a nod of approval before speaking。 They give socially acceptable answers and half-truths。

If what they have to say resonates with men, it is only because they manage to hint at the real answer。

The real answer is that The Way of Men is The Way of The Gang。

Manliness — being good at being a man — isn’t about impressing women。 That’s a side effect of manliness。

Manliness isn’t about being a good man。 There are plenty of bad guys – real jerks –who are manlier than you are, and you know it。

Manliness is about demonstrating to other men that you have what it takes to survive tough times。

Manliness is about our primal nature。 It’s about what men have always needed from each other if they wanted to win struggles against nature, and against other men。

The Way of Men describes the four tactical virtues of the survival gang。

The Way of Men explains what men want, and why they are rapidly disengaging from our child-proofed modern world。

The Way of Men examines the alternatives, and sketches a path out of our “bonobo masturbation society” through a new Dark Age。

Good。 If you don't accept his conclusions you probably just didn't listen to his logic。 His logic is not 100% correct but he at least gives a very good analysis of masculinity。 Good。 If you don't accept his conclusions you probably just didn't listen to his logic。 His logic is not 100% correct but he at least gives a very good analysis of masculinity。 。。。more

Enjoyable read, a history of how men think and act and what is needed to return to a more complete gender

This was an ok read, like I wouldn’t say it was bad - it has important and useful info like a reminder in regards to what being a man can include and how indeed it is being stripped from many due to the society and certain cultures that exist today。。。where certain ‘manhood traits’ can’t really be expressed as it used to be。。。。。。but I dunno I just felt like I was going through large parts of the book where I was waiting for some inspirational insight that eluded me in the end。。。To Our Continued S This was an ok read, like I wouldn’t say it was bad - it has important and useful info like a reminder in regards to what being a man can include and how indeed it is being stripped from many due to the society and certain cultures that exist today。。。where certain ‘manhood traits’ can’t really be expressed as it used to be。。。。。。but I dunno I just felt like I was going through large parts of the book where I was waiting for some inspirational insight that eluded me in the end。。。To Our Continued Success!Seemy http://www。WaseemMirza。net 。。。more

Great book, contains what should be common knowledge but has been pushed way back in our minds, so we have forgotten。 A truly thought provoking book。

Oversimplified view on sexes, with no clear thought thru message on what author thinks needs to happen。 The 1st part of the book is so basic and repetitive, it's a readers achievement to make past it。 Oversimplified view on sexes, with no clear thought thru message on what author thinks needs to happen。 The 1st part of the book is so basic and repetitive, it's a readers achievement to make past it。 。。。more

This book really changed my perspective on male bonding and influence。 As a growing young man myself, who didn't really understand the concept of different masculine expectations of society, has been inspired to constantly work on my growth mindset for personal improvement。 Every man has their own code of values to live by in order to call himself a man。 Self reflecting on my own life journey so far I have a lot of work to put in on developing my own code of values and masculine expectations to This book really changed my perspective on male bonding and influence。 As a growing young man myself, who didn't really understand the concept of different masculine expectations of society, has been inspired to constantly work on my growth mindset for personal improvement。 Every man has their own code of values to live by in order to call himself a man。 Self reflecting on my own life journey so far I have a lot of work to put in on developing my own code of values and masculine expectations to pave the road to my definition on being man。 Thank you Jack Donovan for opening my eyes and rewiring my perspective on the socialization of men。 。。。more

This book was alright。 The themes and ideas discussed are really interesting, many of which I agree with while others seem to lack clear reasoning to convince you to the authors stance。 Overall an easy read and rather insightful- I really like how it felt as though the author would criticise anything he felt relevant, he never came across as censoring himself or dodging a touchy issue。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Started really strong。 But subsequent chapters became repetitive, impractical and definitely questionable。 Although, conclusion again made some sense。Jack Donovan tries to connect the intincts, behaviours and psychology of men in general with the evolution of humans over millions of years。 A really brilliant connection, but he should have stopped at "Honour"。[SPOILER] A real life example of Jack's fantacy, from my understanding is, post 1977 Afghanistan。 While I love Afghans, I would not want to Started really strong。 But subsequent chapters became repetitive, impractical and definitely questionable。 Although, conclusion again made some sense。Jack Donovan tries to connect the intincts, behaviours and psychology of men in general with the evolution of humans over millions of years。 A really brilliant connection, but he should have stopped at "Honour"。[SPOILER] A real life example of Jack's fantacy, from my understanding is, post 1977 Afghanistan。 While I love Afghans, I would not want to live at that place! I both loved and hated this book。 As a woman who loves strong, masculine, maverick men, I agreed with many of the ideas discussed by Donovan。 However, I don’t think Donovan provides any practical next steps for how to get back to a balanced society that embraces, or at the very least gives credence to, both the way of men and the way of women。 We obviously have to work together, and promoting tribalism/gangs doesn’t seem like much of a solution。 I completely agreed with Donovan that society toda I both loved and hated this book。 As a woman who loves strong, masculine, maverick men, I agreed with many of the ideas discussed by Donovan。 However, I don’t think Donovan provides any practical next steps for how to get back to a balanced society that embraces, or at the very least gives credence to, both the way of men and the way of women。 We obviously have to work together, and promoting tribalism/gangs doesn’t seem like much of a solution。 I completely agreed with Donovan that society today provides pseudo/virtual outlets for men (and frankly for women as well, I’m looking at you bachelorette and real housewives) that will not be sustainable in the long term- it’s a bandaid to a much bigger problem plaguing society。 I know this book’s main goal is to describe the way of men, but from a woman’s perspective, he missed out on discussing the relationships between strong men and women in their lives。 I’d like to think we play a much bigger role in men’s lives- think Gladiator or Last of the Mohicans。 Besides, it’s not just a masculinity problem, women (who are not crazy anti masculine men feminazis), also feel the weight of the degeneration of society into placid, soft, pleasure addicts。 We normal, man loving women suffer significantly from the push toward effeminate “nice” men。 As Neil postman said, we are entertaining ourselves to death。 Overall, my main gripe with this book is that it was a lot of talk and not a lot of real world solutions。 Hoping, or implying, that a new “Dark Ages” period is the only way men will get to be men again is absurd。 I think the author missed on a great opportunity at the end to discuss how to bring back the dynamic interplay between the way of men and the way of women to ensure success in the long term。 。。。more

Overall a good book that shows how man “function” but I do not agree with the advices that are given。 If you have to read only one chapter read “The Bonobo Masturbation society”, stunning。

This book has motivated me to become a better man now。 I have listened to Jack Donovan books on audible, I like the way he thinks understanding what men need in order to become great。

Thought-provoking。 Well-cited。

I strongly disagree with the majority of the conclusions but his descriptions of male interaction and the importance of masculinity in a world that is currently attacking everything male makes this a somewhat uncomfortable read toward the end, but an absolute MUST read for these current generations of men in order to reestablish an understanding of who and what we are, and why we must be that way。

Short, real, and to the point。 It can be read in a couple of hours。 Less talk, more action。

Any man living in a modern society should read this book。 Great ideas that every man knows but no one is a aware of。

I feel now like manly man。

I mean the author is seemingly very confident about his ideas。 But, I am left to have more questions than answers to what it means to be a man。

Listened to audiobook, narrated by author。Some interesting points on being "good at being a man" and masculine virtues, in contrast to being a "good man", and on building a social gang (a male friendship group essentially)。 But half the book just felt like a rant against modern society and feminism rather than providing a constructive alternative。 Listened to audiobook, narrated by author。Some interesting points on being "good at being a man" and masculine virtues, in contrast to being a "good man", and on building a social gang (a male friendship group essentially)。 But half the book just felt like a rant against modern society and feminism rather than providing a constructive alternative。 。。。more
