Summary

After being randomly selected as a human sacrifice, instead of death, Dawsyn finds herself on a quest to save her people from their icy prison。。。
---

In a place known as the Ledge, a civilization is trapped by a vast chasm and sheer mountain face。 There is no way for anyone to escape the frozen wasteland without befalling a deathly drop。 They know nothing of the outside world except that it is where the Glacians reside – mystical and vicious winged creatures who bring meagre rations in exchange for a periodic human sacrifice。

Dawsyn, ax wielder and only remaining member of her family, has so far avoided the annual culling, but her luck has run out。 She is chosen and ripped from her icy home, the only world she knows。 No one knows what will happen to her on the other side, least of all Dawsyn。 Murdered? Enslaved? Worse?

Fortunately, a half-Glacian called Ryon offers to help them both escape, but how can she trust one of the very creatures that plagued her life? Dawsyn is a survivor, and she is not afraid to cut anyone down to live。

With a slow-burning romance, high stakes and even higher rewards, this richly created new fantasy series by popular TikToker Stacey McEwan will keep you gripped to the very end。

Full review to come……overall, this was one hell of a debut novel! I was hooked from start to finish。 Things that kept if from being a 5⭐️:- Ryon kept calling the female MC “girl”。- It’s told in 3rd person perspective。 - Some of the side characters felt super cliche。

This book is amazing!!! I can’t recommend it enough。 Strong female lead character that has to fight her way out to survive having been selected as a human sacrifice in an unthinkable dangerous iced land! Can’t wait to read the second one!!

I’m still upset as I write this… BUTi give it 3/5 just because it is her debut book。 The plot is there, and the characters are slightly there, but I found myself wishing it was first person POV, not scattered third。 I think it would have made the characters more “likable”。 I will say, I did chuck the book across the room after I finished it。 So, do with that as you will lol。

I have not read a book this good in a long while。 Holy crap this was SO。 GOOD。 I honestly didn’t have high expectations for this book, and let me tell you how wrong I was。 The world building was done flawlessly despite this being a shorter read。 The characters are easy to love but refreshingly different from your average fantasy novel。 Let me just leave it at I loved everything about this read and you’re seriously missing out if you don’t give this book a chance。 The only thing that I am not oka I have not read a book this good in a long while。 Holy crap this was SO。 GOOD。 I honestly didn’t have high expectations for this book, and let me tell you how wrong I was。 The world building was done flawlessly despite this being a shorter read。 The characters are easy to love but refreshingly different from your average fantasy novel。 Let me just leave it at I loved everything about this read and you’re seriously missing out if you don’t give this book a chance。 The only thing that I am not okay with is having to wait a whole year for the sequel, but I can’t wait to see where the characters go from here in the next book。 。。。more

This book was entirely captivating, I love a fast paced storyline and this delivers that perfectly。 The main character is a badass that doesn’t feel unrealistic and I love the background behind why she’s capable of being a warrior。 I wish there was more detail and plot in some parts but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it

Thank you NetGalley and Angry Robot for granted my wish! Well it gave me a stress while reading her act and at first I don't know what she want to do after escaping the Glacian。 But, with the development rise between Ryon and Dawsyn I think she became much a better character and I can see what she want to do。 And I can say I love their relationship! The book has dual POV I think, but we don't know who POV is right now because there's no mark or anything to tell us who is this。 We just know after read it and I found it quite hard because sometimes I confuse who's thinking or talking now。And the ending! I can't stop thinking about the ending! This book give you a cliff hanger so I can't wait for the next one! 。。。more

Even Better than I anticipated!Stacey has been so fun to follow on social media, and her witticisms and personality shine through in this first of her books。 As with any fantasy series, there’s lore and plot things to get through upfront, but the banter and pace picks up to a delightful cadence once we get into the banter of our protagonists, and especially once we start to get to know the squad。 Dawsyn and Ryon are ruthless and witty, and the steam level picks up too。Warning, this book ends on Even Better than I anticipated!Stacey has been so fun to follow on social media, and her witticisms and personality shine through in this first of her books。 As with any fantasy series, there’s lore and plot things to get through upfront, but the banter and pace picks up to a delightful cadence once we get into the banter of our protagonists, and especially once we start to get to know the squad。 Dawsyn and Ryon are ruthless and witty, and the steam level picks up too。Warning, this book ends on a bit of a “ledge” (sorry I had to)。 I rushed to read this first book (worth it), but the next one doesn’t come out till September 2023, and so begins the wait。 “Stay the frost。 Mind the chasm。 The cold is not alive。” 。。。more

I've been waiting for this book to be release for a while since I started following Stacey McEwan on Instagram - so it's hard for me to be objective because we're obviously bffs because she accepted my follow。 Duh。 Did I start this book reading it in my head with an Australian accent for the first couple chapters?? I really wanted to like this。 I love Stacey on TikTok and was sop hyped for this after everything she shard about it。I found it completely unreadable, I made it 4 chapters and DNFd it。 The characters were flat, and the storytelling was lacking a little。 Now, those may have been sussed out if I’d read further, however the most egregious issue, for me, was the writing。 The book has a weird current active voice that reads like a children’s book “Jane likes water。 Jane gets up to drink water。 Water I really wanted to like this。 I love Stacey on TikTok and was sop hyped for this after everything she shard about it。I found it completely unreadable, I made it 4 chapters and DNFd it。 The characters were flat, and the storytelling was lacking a little。 Now, those may have been sussed out if I’d read further, however the most egregious issue, for me, was the writing。 The book has a weird current active voice that reads like a children’s book “Jane likes water。 Jane gets up to drink water。 Water is good。” Chapter 2 there’s a s*x scene where one whole sentence read “now they are standing”。。。 I’ve never been more dry。 Beginning of chapter 4: “One more step and Dawsyn’s heels will hit ice and she will slide into that gaping black mouth。” A rewrite might be “If Dawson were to take one more step her heels would hit the ice and she’d slide into the gaping black mouth of the chasm。”I found it completely unreadable with the short, staccato sentences in that weird “she does this, she does that” children’s book style。 BookTok promised this book was going to be everything I like in fantasy books and I've never been more frustrated trying to read a book。 DNF and I want my money back。 。。。more

I learned about this book after watching Stacey McEwan’s ‘turning my husband into a fictional man’ series。 I loved the premise she proposed for ‘Ledge’ and I was very happy to see that the book itself did not disappoint! I enjoyed most things about this story。 The pacing was great- you weren’t spending pages and pages making decisions or traveling great distances in extraordinary detail。 It jumped right into the action and kept moving。 I wish there was a bit more character development。 You have little backstory on three characters that seem to be super important when they reach the valley。 Overall- good freshman novel。 She’s hilarious to follow online。
