Summary

When your nemesis also happens to be your fiancé, happily ever after becomes a lot more complicated in this wickedly funny, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy debut。

Naomi Westfield has the perfect fiancé: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family any bride would love to be a part of。 They never fight。 They're preparing for their lavish wedding that's three months away。 And she is miserably and utterly sick of him。

Naomi wants out, but there's a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill。 When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare。

But with the countdown looming to the wedding that may or may not come to pass, Naomi finds her resolve slipping。 Because now that they have nothing to lose, they're finally being themselves--and having fun with the last person they expect: each other。

a story in two partsfor the first 60&, i didnt feel myself very engaged with the story but I felt i must keep reading because I couldnt see how this would turn into a happily ever after。 i just couldnt see it with how endlessly petty & painful niomi & nicholas were to one another。 none of the characters save the main two had any substance to themhowever would have to say im low-key glad i stuck around because them learning about the miscommunications was great and so was them being a team to sta a story in two partsfor the first 60&, i didnt feel myself very engaged with the story but I felt i must keep reading because I couldnt see how this would turn into a happily ever after。 i just couldnt see it with how endlessly petty & painful niomi & nicholas were to one another。 none of the characters save the main two had any substance to themhowever would have to say im low-key glad i stuck around because them learning about the miscommunications was great and so was them being a team to stand up to others。 i found myself captivated if i'm honest in the way only a good romance book can get you, and THE NOTES to each otherall in all, v cute but the beginning was sluggish & the characters remained v immature throughout idk。 i found the writing to be very pretty throughoutso perhaps I will read more of this author。 it had one of my favourite tropes of one aiding another when ill。 。。。more

This was such a nice little book! It started off slow, and i was apprehensive about how much i would like the plot because the premise seemed to be, well, miserable, but their history made it all the more believable and worthwhile when they began to like each other again。 It was just a great light-hearted, funny read。

4 stars! This was funny and sweet and poignant and an absolute wild ride。 Naomi and Nicholas seem like the perfect couple to the whole outside world。 But behind closed doors they’re doing everything they can to torture each other in hopes the other will call off their engagement。 It is absolutely nuts。 I’m always weary of books that are instantly described as ‘laugh out loud funny’ and ‘amazing romantic comedies’ because I usually end up disappointed。 But with this one I did indeed laugh out lou 4 stars! So many people are loving this book but when I read and reread the blurb, I ask myself the following questions:1。 If they don't love each other, why are they engaged in the first place? 2。 Why do they fall for each other when they start playing pranks like 5-year olds?3。 Do they really do all that childish stuff for money? Really? Well, that says a lot about their character then。It all sounds too immature and distasteful to me 。Well, I haven't read the book - I can't know for sure but this blurb So many people are loving this book but when I read and reread the blurb, I ask myself the following questions:1。 If they don't love each other, why are they engaged in the first place? 2。 Why do they fall for each other when they start playing pranks like 5-year olds?3。 Do they really do all that childish stuff for money? I couldn't understand how or why two people who were as miserable together as Naomi and Nicholas seemed to be would be in a relationship together。 Let alone be engaged to be married。 They both seemed to loathe the idea! Hating not only the life they were leading as a couple but each other, too。 In that regard, You Deserve Each Other was as backwards a love story as love stories can get--with an affianced couple hell bent on needling, torturing, and sabotaging each other and their impending "I do's。" It reminded me a little of To Have and To Hoax by Martha Waters in that respect。 Still, nobody can encompass a love-to-hate-to-love trope quite like Nicholas and Naomi。 I won't lie, I had to strap myself in because their relationship was bumpy and loaded as hell。 (So having her name their secluded, woodsy home Disaster was fitting。)Disastrous as their dynamic could be at times, I couldn't help but laugh at their elaborate schemes。 Even when their behavior was beyond wicked。 They were vicious, sarcastic, egotistical, borderline unlikable characters。。。yet compelling and sympathetic people with relatable struggles all the same。 It was a crazy combination that shouldn't have worked but did。 I can't explain it better than that。The ridiculous lengths these two took to get the upper hand were insane, though! Downright immature and selfish at times。 They weren't communicating, weren't listening, and weren't being understanding。 Nick's demanding overbearing mother, Deborah, didn't help things along, either。 (She made Emily Gilmore look like a saint in comparison, and that woman is Chanel No。 5 scary!) Worse, neither knew what the other wanted nor needed。 However, all of that did change substantially over time once Nick and Naomi let their masks slip free。 Once they finally stopped pretending with each other。 It was that slow erosion of facade, revealing the realness of personhood and vulnerability underneath, however, which gave this book its unique sparkle。 And allowed me to root for the main couple at the end of it all。The most interesting thing about this book for me was this, though: appearances can be deceiving。 It took me a while to realize the story was being told by an unreliable narrator。 (In my opinion, anyway。) Readers were only privy to Naoimi's state of things and it soon became obvious that her point of view was narrow。 Limited。 Even a bit distorted。 Her insecurities about herself, particularly with regards to her career and how she was weary of not receiving the support/understanding she needed from her fiancé about it, marred her interpretation of his intentions。 His actual feelings。 I didn't recognize the effort he'd been putting into saving their relationship until she did。 It hit like an epiphany, which was well done。I genuinely thought Nicholas and Naomi despised each other at the beginning (and, hey, maybe there were times they only thought they cared about eighteen percent or so) but the thing is they didn't。 Love was under the surface the whole time。 The problem was that when they first met they weren't being authentic。 So, later, two years after the honeymoon phase ended, we had two people who were forced to remove their Everything Is Great pretense and become acquainted with reality。 With their true selves。 Only then could they grow back together--stronger, better, healthier than before。Love is never all sunshine and roses。 It's about honesty and openness。 It's about confronting problems, making compromises, accounting for the other person's feelings, being heard, believing you're seen and wanted。 These are the things that Nick and Naomi learn to navigate in their relationship over the course of the novel, and if you stick with it despite the initial distance between them, the immaturity, then I think you'll find their evolution to be all the more wonderful for it。 A witty, creative, and engaging debut all around! A reverse whirlwind, if there can be such a thing in romance。 (If there can be, Hogle slamdunked it。) Just know your sides will be aching from laughter by the time you finish。 3。5 starsBOOK BLOG 。。。more

I am confused? 4 stars for entertainment。 This book was really easy and fun to read。 But for execution of the plot, 3 stars。 This book would have been so much better if there was a little more insight into the hero's mind。 Plus, the whole premise of the book wasn't really played out since the heroine just assumed a lot。 I'm not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope, and that's literally the whole book。 But again was a super fun read, I just had higher expectations。 So like 3。5? Very YA, too juvenile for my taste。 The story was just too silly and didn’t make sense。 She could’ve just walked away if she was unhappy。 Why stay with somebody for months and months trying to sabotage your own wedding。 The bride to be was the most clueless woman on earth。 It only took the entire book for her to realize that her husband to be is a great guy。 “They don’t deserve each other””。

Beautiful, fun frolic This was an incredibly light hearted read, written with real talent。To get the story from our female protagonist, and to grow with her whilst the character development happens is wonderful。There are some genuinely laugh out loud moments, and reading this is like having a warm hug。Recommended。

Naomi Westfield is engaged to get married to Nicholas Rose。 However, she realized that she’s not as in love with him as she used to be。 She hatched a plan, several schemes in fact, to turn off Nicholas so that he himself will be forced to call off the wedding。 The reason for this is because she doesn’t want to pay for damages for the non-refundable fees related to the wedding。 The first time that I read this book, I DNF-ed it。 I was so irritated with Nicholas and his mother, who is the future mo Naomi Westfield is engaged to get married to Nicholas Rose。 However, she realized that she’s not as in love with him as she used to be。 She hatched a plan, several schemes in fact, to turn off Nicholas so that he himself will be forced to call off the wedding。 The reason for this is because she doesn’t want to pay for damages for the non-refundable fees related to the wedding。 The first time that I read this book, I DNF-ed it。 I was so irritated with Nicholas and his mother, who is the future mother-in-law of Naomi。 I felt as if it’s no brainer。 She should not marry this kind of guy。This is the first book that I read under love to hate to love trope。 😊 And considering that this is a debut novel of Sarah Hogle, I was surprised with how effortlessly the author was able to transform my feelings, from extreme irritation with Nicholas to considering him as one of my top bookish boyfriends。 😂 Seriously, I love books like this that tackle on second chances。 Nicholas and Naomi’s relationship seemed hopeless, but it takes one mature adult in a relationship to be the bigger person。 And the other one, to be receptive of the efforts of the other。 I love how the story emphasized on the importance of getting to know each other (and each other’s family) before entering into the sacred bonds of marriage。 This is my idea of a wonderful rom-com: significant issues, hilarious characters, plus wacky antics。 Naomi is a character with many flaws, but I love how her personality evolved。 And she’s also constantly hilarious, which would lead you to surmise why Nicholas is so smitten with her。 I also appreciate the small-town setting。 😊I love this fictional couple, but I love even more how good they are when together (well, after the second try。 The first time was disastrous。😂) For #romancereaders this book is so swoon-worthy。 Not so much on steam level, but I’m fine with it。😊 Perfect escapist read。 ❤️Rating: 4。5⭐️ 。。。more

For the first 60ish percent of this book, Naomi and Nicholas are very cruel to each other and have such a toxic relationship that it was difficult to read。 The MIL was also awful, and every time I read another way she inserted herself into the wedding plans or coerced Nicholas into doing something for her, I nearly DNFed。The last third of the book was really cute, but I spent so long hating the characters by then that I don’t really care about the ending。 The transformation from all out warfare For the first 60ish percent of this book, Naomi and Nicholas are very cruel to each other and have such a toxic relationship that it was difficult to read。 The MIL was also awful, and every time I read another way she inserted herself into the wedding plans or coerced Nicholas into doing something for her, I nearly DNFed。The last third of the book was really cute, but I spent so long hating the characters by then that I don’t really care about the ending。 The transformation from all out warfare to cutesy falling in love again was too abrupt to believe for me。This was on so many Best of 2020 lists and I am confused。 。。。more

This was a cute read! It was a little slow at first but as I got more into it I found myself rooting for both Naomi and Nick。 The parts of rebellion against Nick’s mom were priceless and had me giggling along with them。 I will definitely be adding Ms。 Hogle’s books to the TBR pile!

tbh, I almost stopped reading this book after the first couple of chapters because Naomi drove。 me。 crazy。 I put it down for awhile and read something else, then decided to come back to it, and I'm glad I did! Yes, Naomi is immature and petty through the beginning of the book, but I eventually really enjoyed the reconnection between her and Nicholas。 Even though she could be annoying, I found Naomi's internal thoughts to be enjoyable to read after a bit。 She's funny and kind of all over the plac tbh, I almost stopped reading this book after the first couple of chapters because Naomi drove。 me。 crazy。 I put it down for awhile and read something else, then decided to come back to it, and I'm glad I did! But, I think this book succeeds in that most of the time that they were really not getting along and drifting apart from each other happens before the story in the book starts, so the reader kind of sees the final hurrah of this conflict and then the resolution, which was nice to read。 Overall, I'm glad I stuck with this one, and I hope that other readers who are initially turned off by Naomi's sometimes-grating personality will try to stick with it。 I think the pay off is worth it! 。。。more

The first half of this book was to push through。 The resentment this ENGAGED couple exerted for each other was unhealthy and emotionally brutal。 Finally around the middle of the book things finally turn around, but by then it was almost too late。 I was still able to turn around and root for the couple by then but I can see and understand how others might have lost interest in their happy ending。

My problem is I really do not like the main characters。 I spent the first two hours of reading want to punch them both in the face。 They have absolutely no reason to be in a relationship acting like two year olds。 I was recommended this as a cute chick lit and I wish I had t wasted my time trying to enjoy it。
