When I found out that Dirk was continuing his father's legacy, I was somewhat sceptical (Clive Cussler will always be one of my most favorite authors ever) and I knew that I had to at least read one before drawing a conclusion。 I mean, he did co-author a bunch of them with his dad, so it would have to be decent right?Wrong。It was a million times better! With only a slightly different feel (you can only tell if you've read all of the others), Dirk Cussler completely held hostage my attention in th When I found out that Dirk was continuing his father's legacy, I was somewhat sceptical (Clive Cussler will always be one of my most favorite authors ever) and I knew that I had to at least read one before drawing a conclusion。 I mean, he did co-author a bunch of them with his dad, so it would have to be decent right?Wrong。It was a million times better! With only a slightly different feel (you can only tell if you've read all of the others), Dirk Cussler completely held hostage my attention in this fantastically written page turner。 I found it hard to put the book down most of the time。 He succeeded in every way to keep the pace fast and the action/adventure tense, much like the late Clive Cussler。 On the day of his passing, the entire world lost an amazing man with an even more amazing imagination and the ability to tell the stories that legends are made of (as I said, one of my most favorite authors ever)。 However, it looks like we've got another and I really hope he keeps going because Dirk certainly has a knack for it。Dirk Cussler - Your father would be so proud to see what you can do here。It must be in the bloodline。 。。。more

This was my first Clive Cussler read in quite a while (read a lot of them years ago)。 I enjoyed the story, but, frankly, it largely felt like the formulaic Dirk Pitt novel; I doubt it will be particularly memorable for me。 The whole plot about the exotic material and China's desperation to acquire it for their weapon systems, as well as hijacking Taiwan's imminent defense system, was interesting。 But most of the action (and miraculous saves/recoveries) felt like generic Dirk Pitt daily encounter This was my first Clive Cussler read in quite a while (read a lot of them years ago)。 I enjoyed the story, but, frankly, it largely felt like the formulaic Dirk Pitt novel; I doubt it will be particularly memorable for me。 The whole plot about the exotic material and China's desperation to acquire it for their weapon systems, as well as hijacking Taiwan's imminent defense system, was interesting。 But most of the action (and miraculous saves/recoveries) felt like generic Dirk Pitt daily encounters。 I mean, how many times, and in how many ways, can your hero get nefariously stranded on the bottom of the ocean and still manage to end back up on the surface!I appreciate that, to my recollection, it was pretty clean。 I don't recall any promiscuity (and maybe that has been out of the picture since Dirk Sr。 married), and I don't recall much (if any) profanity。 I listened to this as an audio book, and perhaps the highlight of the book was the narration。 I thought Scott Brick did a stellar job on the narration; he had great inflection, and was especially noticeable in the intense action sections。 I listen to it at 1。8x speed, and his voice was still clear and easy on the ears。 。。。more

I will start by saying that I have been a huge fan of Clive Cussler books since I was a teenager and read Raise the 'Titanic', so we're talking over 40 years。 During that time, there have been a number of excellent books in the series, which ironically was before Cussler started delving into many other series with other authors。Devil's Sea, a book by Dirk Cussler, is another in a series of books that were a father/son collaboration。 While it is not bad, I'm mixed in my feelings。 First, it adds n I will start by saying that I have been a huge fan of Clive Cussler books since I was a teenager and read Raise the 'Titanic', so we're talking over 40 years。 During that time, there have been a number of excellent books in the series, which ironically was before Cussler started delving into many other series with other authors。Devil's Sea, a book by Dirk Cussler, is another in a series of books that were a father/son collaboration。 While it is not bad, I'm mixed in my feelings。 First, it adds nothing to the longstanding relationship between Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino。 They are getting older, but seem timeless in their friendship。 It would be nice to grow that somehow。 We know how Pitt's life has changed, but what about Al? Other than to be there and give Dirk a hand and save his life at the most opportune moment, he hasn't really been developed in years。 While we are starting to learn more about Dirk, Jr and Summer, again, they are still a work in progress。 I would love for some of these characters to grow and show more depth。 For quite some time, they have been pretty thin。However, I will say that the concept for the plot is interesting。 I'm not sure about the science, but one of the greatest strengths about a Cussler novel was building off of the future or near impossible。 But I feel that none of these books holds a candle to two of my favourites, which were Vixon 03 and Night Probe。 If you want adventure, I would start reading the original books in the series and work your way forward。 I'd be interested to see if others see what I'm seeing。 I'm trying to learn (later in life) how to write novels, so I'm seeing a lot of things that I've been told are needed for a great novel that are missing, so maybe I'm biased。 It was a good leisure read, but wasn't a keep reading all night because it's so gripping kind of book as the originals were。 A good way to spend some leisure or travel time。 。。。more

Great non-stop adventure book! I enjoyed the under sea diving and locating/searching of the planes underwater。 The Pitt family is an enigma and if I were ever I trouble, I’d want to be near them。 I was a little lost on how it all tied together, it seemed like it took longer than usual to understand what the Chinese really wanted and what their motives were。 Even when we did find out what they were, it was confusing on who was mad at who。 Overall a fun adventure book。 Rarely disappointed with Cus Great non-stop adventure book! Good read。 With Dirk Pitt and his children Summer and Dirk jr。About the Chinese wanting to take out Taiwan with a tsunami。

Hugh Butler

I quite liked this story and the characters, particularly their stalwart pursuit of the right in the face of significant and organized opposition。a seafaring tale to be sure with equipment and storms, fire and pirates。good stuff。

Tim Carroll

Pitt and Giordano rarely disappoint。 An action adventure played out on two intertwining fronts was highly enjoyable to read。

Ron

Another action packed high seas adventure with the Pitt family and friends。 Dirk and Summer save an ancient religion and Dirk Sr。 and Al save the world。 But of course。 A great tale。

Piet

It felt more like a graphic novel than a book。Otherwise it was OK。A little disappointing。

This was a fast-paced interesting story covering several stories within the main plot。

I have generally enjoyed the Clive Cussler series。 This was entertaining but demonstrated and extreme anti-Chinese bias, which I find very disturbing。 For those that like to see China demonized, they probably will love the book。

amazingly Clive。 great work Dirk! This is a seamless transition with fine storytelling that your Dad always provided。 The story now continues。 Can’t wait for the next adventure。

Lot’s of fun and action。 A little to predictable

Kenneth

The Chinese tries to buy a better missile。

Ian Yates

Really?? What was this??? About 8 heroes who are all a cross between James Bond and McGuyver immersed in a ridiculously transparent and implausible plot。 Why did I bother to finish the book?????

Al Menaster

Pretty good, well paced, lots of action。 Again, the good guys have no idea bad guys are chasing/following them, even though they should know。 And the bad guys never kill them, but do Bond-like plans to kill them which invariably fail。

Karen Kersten

Great Cussler story!

Pitts do it again。 Family style, Good read, Underwater, in the sky, mining technology used for death , Hugh waves , and a determined family of heros。
