Summary

'Making money is a knack, a knack that can be acquired。 And if someone like me can become rich, then so can you - no matter what your present circumstances。 Here is how I did it and what I learned along the way。' So writes Felix Dennis, who believes that almost anyone of reasonable intelligence can become rich, given sufficient motivation and application。

How To Get Rich is a distillation of his business wisdom。 Primarily concerned with the step-by-step creation of wealth, it ruthlessly dissects the business failures and financial triumphs of 'a South London lad who became rich virtually by accident'。 Part manual, part memoir, part primer, this book is a template for those who are willing to stare down failure and transform their lives。

Canny, infuriating, cynical and generous by turns, How To Get Rich is an invaluable guide to 'the surprisingly simple art of collecting money which already has your name on it'。

A surprisingly good read, despite the misleading title。 Useful to contrast with silicon valley wisdom。

This book has so much personality。 I’ve never read a book where the author’s character shines through like this。 Every chapter is perfect- easy to read, fun stories and no fluff or stupid advice。 This book is for people who want to get rich by starting a business。 There is no other form of advice about investing or working a job。 Even though it doesn’t seem like it from the title, this is basically a business book。 Every business owner should read this for practical, timeless advice。

Informative, honest, biographical。 Highly recommend to anyone wanting to know the unadulterated truth on the subject from someone who's been there and done it。 Informative, honest, biographical。 Highly recommend to anyone wanting to know the unadulterated truth on the subject from someone who's been there and done it。 。。。more

The book offers some practical on how to become rich and targets a young audience or people who are still in the early stage of their career。 The author’s perspective is very much focussed on the media / publishing sector where he gained experience in。 I think his ideas are outdated even though some might still be valid today。

This book is a lot of fun despite that fact that I would have disliked Mr Dennis immensely。 The title should be "How to Get Filthy Rich if You're Twenty"。 However as a 54 year old man it's next to useless as a "how to get rich" primer。Rich for Dennis is £15 million, where as rich for me (with currently next to nothing) is what he regards as comfortably poor。Even then, there are few actually practical examples of how to get rich。 He speaks of forming a company, owning it all, etc etc, all perfect This book is a lot of fun despite that fact that I would have disliked Mr Dennis immensely。 The title should be "How to Get Filthy Rich if You're Twenty"。 However as a 54 year old man it's next to useless as a "how to get rich" primer。Rich for Dennis is £15 million, where as rich for me (with currently next to nothing) is what he regards as comfortably poor。Even then, there are few actually practical examples of how to get rich。 He speaks of forming a company, owning it all, etc etc, all perfectly valid points - but there's little about how to select the right business niche。There's nothing about becoming wealthy later in life。It's a fun read, and as an autobiography with business tips, it'd get 4/5, but seeing as it doesn't deliver upon the title I've rated it 2/5。 。。。more

Best book I have ever read on the pros and cons on getting rich and how to get rich。 The author has a colorful writing style enriched with poems。 Very entertaining book which really goes deep into his real experience on getting rich cutting down on nonsense

This book will keep trying to convince you that you don't really want to get rich, which is something I respect。If you want an honest, serious look at what it takes to be rich, this will do it for you。 No fluff, just good advice。 This book will keep trying to convince you that you don't really want to get rich, which is something I respect。If you want an honest, serious look at what it takes to be rich, this will do it for you。 No fluff, just good advice。 。。。more

Not a 5 start but certainly not a 3 star。 It’s not a book i would ever read again。 Or even recommend to someone。 But if a friend told me hey i started reading this book。 I would say i read it, let me know what you think。 Pros- the most honest of an rich person I’ve read in a book。- is aware that it takes some form of luck BUT also hard work。 - gives a lot of his experiences Cons - long af for no reason。 Could have been 5 chapters but there is so much fluff that it’s annoying。 - so many poems in Not a 5 start but certainly not a 3 star。 It’s not a book i would ever read again。 Or even recommend to someone。 But if a friend told me hey i started reading this book。 I would say i read it, let me know what you think。 Pros- the most honest of an rich person I’ve read in a book。- is aware that it takes some form of luck BUT also hard work。 - gives a lot of his experiences Cons - long af for no reason。 Could have been 5 chapters but there is so much fluff that it’s annoying。 - so many poems in the book - he gives a lot of different scenarios i wish he would have picked one and Focused heavy on that maybe then the book would’ve been shorterPs。 I could see a lot of todays fairies hating this book b/c of how honest he is。 He is fair but he is mean。 。。。more

This is the first book I've ever read, across any genre, that is marks the categories of being a 'fun read,' a 'must read,' and 're-read again。' It's honestly that good。The wisdom passed down from these pages are much different than say, The Millionaire Fastlane: Crack the Code to Wealth and Live Rich for a Lifetime!, Rich Dad, Poor Dad or I Will Teach You to Be Rich: No Guilt。 No Excuses。 No BS。 Just a 6-Week Program That Works。 Much, much different。Firstly, this book goes right to the heart of This is the first book I've ever read, across any genre, that is marks the categories of being a 'fun read,' a 'must read,' and 're-read again。' It's honestly that good。The wisdom passed down from these pages are much different than say, The Millionaire Fastlane: Crack the Code to Wealth and Live Rich for a Lifetime!, Rich Dad, Poor Dad or I Will Teach You to Be Rich: No Guilt。 No Excuses。 No BS。 Just a 6-Week Program That Works。 Much, much different。Firstly, this book goes right to the heart of the matter quickly。 You can't expect an extraordinary net worth without leveraging yourself many times over。 In a capitalist society, we call this running a business (or several businesses), but the same could apply if you are destined to become a televangelist and have your massive congregation blindly send you money。 This fact is better explained in The 4-Hour Work Week: Escape the 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich but Felix Dennis does a good enough job in this tome to understand it。For those starting out, or earlier in their careers, I would read this book with one on the opposite spectrum of creating a business that begins to grow autonomously, something like The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It or Clockwork: Design Your Business to Run Itself。 Then understanding how the flywheel gets created of producing income is covered in its entirety。Honestly, I don't know that younger people would all get a benefit from this book。 I'm in my mid-40s, I have a successful business, but I'm always looking to build more。 I think as an entrepreneur it's more about the journey than the destination, so if you are like me (or even older) this book will add a few more insights and tools to your quiver that you can use to keep going。 Refueling the tank is perhaps the hardest part about any point along the entrepreneurial journey, and it's great books like these that help you do just that。I highly recommend this book at any stage that you are at in your quest for income。 The author left his fortune (largely) to planting trees when he died。 But before he lost his battle with cancer, he was kind to leave us this guidebook on how he did it。Rest in Peace Mr。 Dennis, your character is well missed in our world today。 。。。more

This is probably one of the best books outthere about acquiring wealth。 The author is legitimately rich( wer'e talking half a billion dollars rich) and the idea of the book was inspired one night when he was dining with friends and got asked about his opinion of the new book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, and Dennis got mad about how all these so called self help books are selling empty dreams and promising that the road to riches are paved with flowers and roses。 So this book is the author's attemp This is probably one of the best books outthere about acquiring wealth。 The author is legitimately rich( wer'e talking half a billion dollars rich) and the idea of the book was inspired one night when he was dining with friends and got asked about his opinion of the new book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, and Dennis got mad about how all these so called self help books are selling empty dreams and promising that the road to riches are paved with flowers and roses。 So this book is the author's attempt to impart what it really takes to get rich and how f$$ing hard yet achievable it actually is。 This anti-selfhelp book tells you point-blank that there are some concrete reasons why everyone is not getting rich: actually few people really want to get rich and a large number of those people are thwarted by fear and excuses like too young, unexperienced( perfect time to start!) Or employed and successful and fear losing the life they have( you have more resources than the young) or senior manager type people who don't think that they can still do it( they probably can't because stamina is crucial!)Dennis classify 3 types of rich: fairly rich, seriously rich, and filthy rich( 500m$+)。 Dennis started a publishing business in the UK and expanded into the US, adding more new magazines as time went on。 Some tips on how to succeed: you have to own most of your business。 Don't allow venture capitalists to take over your business。 Try hard to raise money by other means so that you can preserve ownership。 Prepare to sacrifice your relationships and cutoff from your past, at least at first。 Pay close attention to legal stuff around your business; overhead sneaks up on you。 Focus on the ball that says the money is here。 Better choose a fast growing field that you feel drawn to。 Seek out talent smarter than you and give then the opportunity to grow and prove themselves。 Sell your business before it peaks, or when you get bored。 You don't own the company so act accordingly and use the company's resources wisely。 Pay your taxes。 Fear nothing and Noone, give all your money away。 Make more money。 Repeat。 The author is really witty and a lot of humor was involved。 Might as well be read for fun。 。。。more

I quite enjoyed this anecdotal book on how a titan of the publishing industry made his fortune。 The main takeaways I got were1) Don't be scared of starting a business2) You need equity / ownership over everything else to actually get rich。 Everything else is wage slavery。 I quite enjoyed this anecdotal book on how a titan of the publishing industry made his fortune。 The main takeaways I got were1) Don't be scared of starting a business2) You need equity / ownership over everything else to actually get rich。 Everything else is wage slavery。 。。。more

A little bit ashamed to share this one, but ignore the title, this is a great book。 Seriously。 The book was written by a magazine publishing magnate Felix Dennis who shares his story of how he got rich。 He is quite a character。 In the 90s he blew $100MM+ on alcohol, cocaine, and then became a full-time poet in the early 2000s。 the book has a tone of great lessons, and advice that people who are starting or operating a business will find quite useful。

Loved this book! The author is cynical, witty and very frank。 I love how Felix Dennis shares all。 I was riveted as he told the tales of his mistakes and his triumphs landing a piece of advice each chapter。

The title is repulsive and comes off as a quick $ scheme。 Unless you’re a trust fund baby or have some inheritance lined up, Felix shares the grit of what it takes to amass $500m from nothing。There’s no secret sauce。 If you want to hit that number then you sacrifice your time and energy to that cause。In the end, Felix realized that he had more fulfillment from painting than accumulating wealth。 This book provided a push in motivation and mindset for me in my early 20s to get out there, take risk The title is repulsive and comes off as a quick $ scheme。 Unless you’re a trust fund baby or have some inheritance lined up, Felix shares the grit of what it takes to amass $500m from nothing。There’s no secret sauce。 If you want to hit that number then you sacrifice your time and energy to that cause。In the end, Felix realized that he had more fulfillment from painting than accumulating wealth。 This book provided a push in motivation and mindset for me in my early 20s to get out there, take risks, and hustle。 Now in my early 30s and reflecting back, the insane drive and mentality to be filthy rich just isn’t there。I’m no longer bought into the hustle and bustle mentality but the book offers that light at the end of tunnel for readers to see what it takes and decide if it’s really worth it。 。。。more
