Summary

The past may seem the safest place to be 。 。 。 but it is the most dangerous time to be alive。 。 。 。

Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1743, and it took them twenty years to find each other again。 Now the American Revolution threatens to do the same。

It is 1779 and Claire and Jamie are at last reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband, Roger, and their children on Fraser’s Ridge。 Having the family together is a dream the Frasers had thought impossible。

Yet even in the North Carolina backcountry, the effects of war are being felt。 Tensions in the Colonies are great and local feelings run hot enough to boil Hell’s tea-kettle。 Jamie knows loyalties among his tenants are split and it won’t be long until the war is on his doorstep。

Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the twentieth century might catch up to them。 Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s—among them disease, starvation, and an impending war—was indeed the safer choice for their family。

Not so far away, young William Ransom is still coming to terms with the discovery of his true father’s identity—and thus his own—and Lord John Grey has reconciliations to make, and dangers to meet 。 。 。 on his son’s behalf, and his own。

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser’s Ridge。 And with the family finally together, Jamie and Claire have more at stake than ever before。

I listened to the audiobook and absolutely loved sinking into the Outlander universe again。 Davina Porter is superb narrator and I just loved the details and minutiae of life on the Ridge。 So glad there will be another!

It’s funny。 I started reading Gabaldon by accident。 I was at the checkout waiting my turn and picked up Drums of Autumn。 I read the last two paragraphs at the end and then put it down when it was my turn。 Two days later while shopping again I found the damn book and began reading few pages in the middle 。 Again when it was my turn I put it down。 5 days later again in check out I found the book and read the read first pages。 I bought the doggone book。 She is such a hooker of a writer。 Mysticism。 It’s funny。 I started reading Gabaldon by accident。 I was at the checkout waiting my turn and picked up Drums of Autumn。 I read the last two paragraphs at the end and then put it down when it was my turn。 Two days later while shopping again I found the damn book and began reading few pages in the middle 。 Again when it was my turn I put it down。 5 days later again in check out I found the book and read the read first pages。 I bought the doggone book。 She is such a hooker of a writer。 Mysticism。 Reiligious briefs。English。 French。 Irish Amerindian。She really does research her topics。 You become glued to the storyline。 As an RN the pharmacological aspects are spell bending。 Like Jean Auleul you really do smell and taste the moments at hand。 I began reading The Clan of the Cave Bear in my junior year in Nursing School。 My pharmacology teacher recommended that I read it。 I did and I was stoked。I was at a campground and I had just read where Ayla had just discovered fire。 Here I am at the picnic table with some dry grass …。and I was striking two rocks and I got some and fire。?Hélène suggested I stop this foolishness or the camp warden was gonna shoo us away。 Anyway 。。 I digress…。 。。。more

Well, it seems like torture- getting caught up in the lives of Claire and Jamie and their kin and associates again and then having "the Bees" end with an incredible cliff hanger!

I was underwhelmed + a terrible ending。 I felt like I kept reading on in search of a great threat to the characters that was constantly built up but that never manifested。

I sure have learned more bits and pieces of the American revolution and history in general by reading the series while loving the characters。 I'm looking forward to the next one! I read the first 5 Outlander books back to back and loved them。 Since then I have watched the series to date on Starz。 So it's been a while, but it's so delightful to come back to an author you enjoy and a story you adore too。 This book doesn't disappoint if you loved the others。 I read the first 5 Outlander books back to back and loved them。 Since then I have watched the series to date on Starz。 So it's been a while, but it's so delightful to come back to an author you enjoy and a story you adore too。 This book doesn't disappoint if you loved the others。 。。。more

History series - it has been too long since I read volume #8 so it is hard to keep track of all the characters and their relationships。 Jamie and Clair are still on Fraser's Ridge。 The American Revolution is unfolding all around them。 People die, people marry and children are found everywhere。 There are some actual historic characters as secondary characters。 She sure writes big books。Pharmacy references - no actual references to an apothecary but Clair cooks up all sorts of medicine on her own。 History series - it has been too long since I read volume #8 so it is hard to keep track of all the characters and their relationships。 Jamie and Clair are still on Fraser's Ridge。 The American Revolution is unfolding all around them。 People die, people marry and children are found everywhere。 There are some actual historic characters as secondary characters。 She sure writes big books。Pharmacy references - no actual references to an apothecary but Clair cooks up all sorts of medicine on her own。Canadian references - brief mention of Nova Scotia, Quebec and St。 John's Island (Prince Edward Island) 。。。more

Well, that’s it for a few years。 My quarantine Outlander hobby is over for now…Enjoyed the intertwining of William and Jamie/Claire storylines。 Excited for the next one, whenever it should come!

I was so excited for the conclusion of this series and was left sorely disappointed。 I felt the book had literally no point and a very random plot。 I almost wish that one of the main characters had died just so I could have been left with some sort of satisfaction at having spent nearly a year reading this boring book。 I honestly wouldn’t bother picking up this last book if I were you。 The rest of the series is well worth reading though。

Starting to lose Claire to Bri and William

Tammie

As always I love every book in this series。 Doesn’t disappoint。

Danna Harris

I just love the continuation on the story。 I would’ve liked a bit more development with Agnes and her episode。 I am glad for the ending because it excites me for the next book。

Taylor Dukes

Go tell the bees that this book was way too long for the actual substance of it。 I mean the literal only action with 50 pages left and wrapped so quickly? Come on, D。G。 I still love Claire and Jamie, of course。 I just want a book all about William at this point。

This is the 9th book in The Outlander series。 And I enjoyed it almost as much as I enjoyed the first one。 I feel so invested in the lives of Claire, Jamie, and their family。 Maybe because each of the books are 50+ hours long (if you listen to the audio version, which I have done for some of them, and did for this one)。 They are science fiction (time traveler) historical novels and will suck you in to their world。 If you haven’t read them, don’t start with this one。 You must read them in order。 T This is the 9th book in The Outlander series。 And I enjoyed it almost as much as I enjoyed the first one。 I feel so invested in the lives of Claire, Jamie, and their family。 Maybe because each of the books are 50+ hours long (if you listen to the audio version, which I have done for some of them, and did for this one)。 They are science fiction (time traveler) historical novels and will suck you in to their world。 If you haven’t read them, don’t start with this one。 You must read them in order。 This one takes place in America during the Revolutionary War。 I highly recommend this series。 。。。more

The series returns to form after the brutally disappointing Book 8。 I began it dubiously, but ended up gobbling it down like candy。

Another looooong drawn out doorstopper that reigns you in at the end and now you have to wait for 3 years for the next one。

Outstanding! I can not believe this is the end of Claire and Jamie’s story。 There must be more!!!

I am such a fan of this series。 Why? 1) The characters grow, deepen, age。 2) heart pounding drama, and yet mundane ‘what can I fix for dinner’ moments。 3) lots of steamy MARRIED romance and sex。 Most stories portray that the best moments are before the weddings, not after。 4) the prayers。 Prayers for laying the hearthstone of a house, prayers for the death of an animal you slaughtered for meat, prayers for the day, for hunting, for battle, for washing clothes, for bees, for gratitude。 5)the way I am such a fan of this series。 Why? 1) The characters grow, deepen, age。 2) heart pounding drama, and yet mundane ‘what can I fix for dinner’ moments。 3) lots of steamy MARRIED romance and sex。 Most stories portray that the best moments are before the weddings, not after。 4) the prayers。 Prayers for laying the hearthstone of a house, prayers for the death of an animal you slaughtered for meat, prayers for the day, for hunting, for battle, for washing clothes, for bees, for gratitude。 5)the way different faiths interplay and weave a community。 6) the way history books known to Claire Jamie , Bree and Roger are all slightly different than the actual event。 Even when you know the outcome , life is a surprise。 。。。more

What can I say? Every word is gold。 Ms。 Gabaldon is working her way through the Revolutionary War, and by the end, I think that there is less than a year to go。 The story is episodic and picks up right after the last page of the previous book。 Lots of story threads to keep straight, but the characters are so vivid that it became pretty easy to know at once whose POV I was in。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Este libro tengo que admitir que es bastante lento y puede llegar a aburrir, pero para mí sigue siendo outlander y sigue teniendo a Jamie y ya con eso es un cinco entrellas para mí。Ya hablando del libro tengo que decir que siento que le falta más protagonismo a Jamie y Claire, tenemos a un personaje Fanny al cual se le pudo quitar tantos capítulos que tuvo y ponernos más de estos personajes que adoramos。Tengo que decir que los capítulos de William me han parecido bastante buenos y entretenidos, Este libro tengo que admitir que es bastante lento y puede llegar a aburrir, pero para mí sigue siendo outlander y sigue teniendo a Jamie y ya con eso es un cinco entrellas para mí。Ya hablando del libro tengo que decir que siento que le falta más protagonismo a Jamie y Claire, tenemos a un personaje Fanny al cual se le pudo quitar tantos capítulos que tuvo y ponernos más de estos personajes que adoramos。Tengo que decir que los capítulos de William me han parecido bastante buenos y entretenidos, me gusta como a evolucionando la manera de escribir los capítulos de William ya que en los libro anteriores estos capítulos el lo personal me aburrirán bastante pero ahora me han parecido bastante buenos y entretenidos。Hablando de la historia de Ian me a gustado, Ian es uno de mis personajes favoritos y la verdad me encanta ver cómo Ian siempre está para su tío Jamie cómo lo estubo su papá。Ahora vamos a hablar de los capítulos de Briana y Roger porque le seguimos dando tanta importancia a Roger es un personaje inútil y la verdad vastante molesto de leer con sus continuas reflexiones que realmente fastidian。 Respecto a Briana es un personaje bueno y sus capítulos con William me han gustado bastante pero creo que en el momento que juntas a Briana y a Roger este personaje le quita lo interesante a Briana。En conclusión me ha gusta y el final me tiene bastante intrigada ya quiero poder leer el próximo libro para ver cómo se desarrollan las cosas。 。。。more
