Best book I’ve read this year。 11/10 would recommend。 I felt so sad when I finished this book。

Theo enjoys it but isn’t there a song that goes with it? Also, how do you make the sound for snow?

Classic。

I don’t think that children should be taught that it’s ok to ‘hunt’ or ‘catch’ any kind of animal, but that aside, I can see how it’s an entertaining read for young kids。 I wanted to read this after reading the author’s book about his Covid experience, and we just happened to have a copy in our bookcase for our grandson。

Read this with my babies… I remember it when I was young。 Still enjoyed it with my babies

REREADRead this as part of therapy; balling my eyes out through most of it。 One of my mum’s favourites; I have fond memories of this one being read before bed

A family goes on a walk with the intention of finding a bear。 They go through various changes in scenery with repetitive actions along the way to make the reader involved in the story。 What happens if you find the thing you were looking for? It was a lovely story, just a pity that the cd that came with the book was nowhere to be find - the downside to not having a library at school。 I read this book to my class and they loved it。 I would recommend this book for children 4 years and upwards。

And what is to become of the ravenous bear left to wander the desolate shores of its sleep-deprived discontent? The luster of this glorified campfire song definitely grows dimmer with the passage of time。 。。。more

Another classic that was very good for developmental purposes。 Violet, my almost 3yo, had a great time with the concepts of over, under, and through。 Questioning the different scenarios。 As well as the emotions involved, like fear。

Classic picture book with a great use of onomatopoeia throughout。 Lovely for children to read for pleasure or could be used to spark interest in topic work with young children。

The author cleverly uses repetition and rhythmic language to quickly capture the attention of young readers。 With each obstacle, Rosen uses alliteration and onomatopoeia so children can “hear” how the characters traverse the landscape。 This adds excitement to the story! He also uses basic descriptive language and prepositional words, which would support most literacy lessons。 With a theme of family relationship and adventure, most children will happily relate to the plot。 The illustrator uses muted watercolor paintings for each landscape, with the brightest colors being used in the home of the characters。 While most of the book is in color, each time the family encounters a new obstacle, the illustrations switch to black and white, giving an impressionistic quality。 The double page spreads “show” the story as well as tell the story, clearly depicting the characters current mood and expressions (calm, excited, scared, joyful)。 This chant aloud is a classic preschool favorite! Children will delight in acting out the movements needed for each obstacle (also perfect for small group creative dramatics)。 They excitedly move along through the adventure, laughing all the way。 A great addition for a unit on bears, where the bear is not the main character。 Recipient of the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize for 0 – 5 Years & Overall (1989), Boston Globe-Horn Book Award (1990), this picture book is recommended for children ages 2-8。 。。。more

What can I say? It's a classic。 And ever since I saw a real family play-acting this story in a park, I knew it's a story to spark imaginative, cooperative play。 Fun and silly。 NOT to actually try this at home, much like the popular recent MG release, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold。 What can I say?
