Summary

A damn good finale。 I liked gollumns ending and how frodo made him seem redeemable it was strangely wholesome。 Sam is the most loyal friend ever。 I want a Sam。 Ugh the friendship in this book is so underrated。

Great to conclusion to a wonderful series。 I love that the story extended so far beyond the “expected” ending。 I always appreciate closure, and in this instance, the opportunity to see the growth/change amongst the hobbits。 Looking back across the series, several things stood out:1。 Brotherly love and how undervalued it is amongst American machismo。 2。 Team and the value of succeeding together, relying on others to strengthen our own areas of weakness, and again, how undervalued these are, espec Great to conclusion to a wonderful series。 I love that the story extended so far beyond the “expected” ending。 I always appreciate closure, and in this instance, the opportunity to see the growth/change amongst the hobbits。 Looking back across the series, several things stood out:1。 Brotherly love and how undervalued it is amongst American machismo。 2。 Team and the value of succeeding together, relying on others to strengthen our own areas of weakness, and again, how undervalued these are, especially amongst American machismo。 3。 Personal growth & journey, or perhaps better said as growth from within the journey。 Seldom were the battles the important scenes; instead, it was the decisions made beforehand, specifically around personal resolve。 。。。more

“Courage is found in unlikely places。” I first became interested in these books in my early teens。 My Grade Six teacher had read The Hobbit to the grade and I became obsessed。 Thus ensued a lifelong passion for all things Middle Earth。 I have my precious battered copy my mother bought me (having finally become frustrated with having to constantly run to the library to renew these awesome tomes) in 1983。I have watched all the movies (multiple times) from the first original release in 2001 and eac “Courage is found in unlikely places。” I first became interested in these books in my early teens。 My Grade Six teacher had read The Hobbit to the grade and I became obsessed。 Thus ensued a lifelong passion for all things Middle Earth。 I have my precious battered copy my mother bought me (having finally become frustrated with having to constantly run to the library to renew these awesome tomes) in 1983。I have watched all the movies (multiple times) from the first original release in 2001 and each follow up movie onwards。 They are one of the truest representations of book to movie adaptations I have ever come across。 Coming to the end of LOTR feels like coming home or visiting an old friend。 The story, the world building, the characters are phenomenal and will never leave you。 I mean Tolkien even invented an entire new language for his precious tales。 The stories are so well written with strong themes of friendship, camaraderie, loyalty, duty above self。 It connects back to a past of greatness where good will conquer evil when we band together for the greater good。 It is an incredible literary experience。 Now, this Friday (*drumroll please) comes The Rings of Power which has me salivating once more。 I can’t wait! I simply had to revisit this fantastical tale to lose myself once more in this incredible world。 Readers who are cover collectors (and the variety of covers that The Lord of the Rings has is a hobby in itself) will be delighted with the release of a Rings of Power series tie-in editions。 The new covers will each show images out of the promotional poster series that was first released back in February。Are you ready to begin your journey into Middle Earth? Do yourself a favour and dive into the original trilogy in readiness for the upcoming series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power。This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 The quoted material may have changed in the final release。 。。。more

Magnificent writing。 Will miss Frodo on my morning commutes。 Tolkien paints a picture in your brain as you read in stunning detail and pulls you along as in a dream。 Goes without saying that you must first read the Hobbit and first 2 books。

I'll be reviewing the series as a whole。 Wow。。 thos is easily the best book series I've ever read。 Before reading, I only watched Peter Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring。 And man, my imagination was running wild while reading Two Towers and Return of the King。 The characters are outstanding。 So much amazing character development。 This story never drags。 Always kept me at the edge of my seat。 For the first time I'm a while, this series got me excited about reading。 10/10 I'll be reviewing the series as a whole。 Wow。。 thos is easily the best book series I've ever read。 Before reading, I only watched Peter Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring。 And man, my imagination was running wild while reading Two Towers and Return of the King。 The characters are outstanding。 So much amazing character development。 This story never drags。 Always kept me at the edge of my seat。 For the first time I'm a while, this series got me excited about reading。 10/10 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I think 3。5 stars is fairer, so I’m giving it the edge。 Although not as captivating as Two Towers, it’s a nice end to the story。 There are a lot of gripping chapters, and I enjoyed the extended twists and turns of the final 50 pages。 What stops this book, and perhaps LOTR as a whole, from being perfect is the absence of Sauron。 The buildup to the battle against his forces is immense, and he is so ominous throughout with the recurring image of the Red Eye, but why do we never see him? As a modern reader, I can’t appreciate the grandeur of the victory because I don’t really know the full power of who has been beaten。 I expected at least one scene where Sauron is confronted, but it never comes。 Couldn’t he have battled Gandalf, or found Frodo on Mount Doom? It’s a shame, and I can’t help but think it was needed。 I also wanted the Three Rings to get more spotlight, for them to perhaps have been used during the War。 We see them in the final few pages, but I thought their lore and abilities should have been more present。 。。。more

I did not read the appendices! But I am so proud of myself for finally finishing the meat of the story。 This was an epic conclusion to the Lord of the Rings。 The pacing was great and the character arcs were wrapped up neatly and in many instances differently than the movies。 I still feel that many characters were a bit mono dimensional, like Aragorn for instance, but I still loved them。 I also still believe that the main driver of this story was the depth and the detail of the world itself。 When I did not read the appendices! 3。5 stars。 Honestly, this book was too long for me, and I did get bored。 However, I can appreciate the author's attention to detail and his creativity。 It was the characters that really held my interest。 Samwise Gamgee and Frodo were definitely my favorites, in that order。 I so love Sam's humility, devotion, respect, optimism, good nature, and determination。 Frodo couldn't have had a better companion! I just can’t even describe how enjoyable this book was to me。 Years of watching the movies which I love now understood through the lenses of the books。 The scouring of the shire would never have worked as a second climax in cinema but wow was it fun to read。 Andy Serkis is my favorite audio book narrator I’ve ever listened to。 I hope he continues to read my books。 He makes this a unique experience and it is wonderfully produced。

A fantastic end to a grand epic。A fantastic conclusion that honestly felt pretty quick。 The only complaint is the extended ending sequence, especially the stuff in the shire。

I guess I should start by saying, as I remember it, this movie was my favorite of the three movies。 A deserved Best Picture, as I recall。 But I haven't seen it in forever, so as to how it compares to the book, well let's just say that a re-watch is in order now that I've finally read them。 To the book, I mention all of this to say, this was my least favorite of the three novels surprisingly! It is still very good, and I actually really loved the post-battle stuff (which I'm pretty sure was not in the movie, or at least, not to the extent that it is on the page) the most, but this one had some flaws the other two volumes did not。 As a whole, I really didn't love Book 5。 It was a bit of a jumbled mess of events and didn't quite maintain the flow of the rest of the novel。 I found many of the events in that Book tougher to keep straight in my head, as often they happened quickly and lacking in some details。 There were a few exceptions - I loved the introduction of Eowyn and the bit about the path of the dead, as a couple examples。 Thankfully, once the POV shifts back to Frodo and Sam in Book Six, the pace seems to fall back in line with how I found the rest of the book and we zoomed to the end at a much more enjoyable steed。 Although I will say the final end on Mount Doom comes much more abruptly than I would have anticipated。 Like, there's so much build up and then there's a certain paragraph and you're like。。。。。oh wow, that's it。 And then it seems weird to go another 80 pages after that final conclusion, however I think everything that happens after the battle was much more needed than I would have guessed and really puts a nice bow on the whole story in a very meaningful and satisfying way。 Both in terms of saying farewell to the characters, but most importantly, especially in the case of the Hobbit crew - to demonstrate how much they have grown on their unforgettable journey。 While this final volume was a tiny bit disappointing just b/c we got off track for awhile there - make no mistake, overall the entirety of The Lord of the Rings is quite excellent, quite enjoyable and 5 stars all the way。 What an epic - it lived up the hype and the lore for sure, and what a fun Summer it was finally taking the time to read all the books。 I suppose I'll seek out some of the other Tolkien works from here。 What a ride。 I'll surely miss my friends in the Fellowship of the Ring。 。。。more
