Summary

Really enjoyed reading the wellspring of which modern fantasy descends。 Enjoyed Tolkien's unique historian voice and narrative style, though it did get quite dense with lore at times。 His ability to write different variations of " they wandered" was quite masterful and somehow avoided being repetitive。 Looking forward to continuing this journey。 Really enjoyed reading the wellspring of which modern fantasy descends。 Enjoyed Tolkien's unique historian voice and narrative style, though it did get quite dense with lore at times。 His ability to write different variations of " they wandered" was quite masterful and somehow avoided being repetitive。 Looking forward to continuing this journey。 。。。more

I'm so glad audiobooks exist so I finally got around to finishing this。 The one I listened to was really well done and included sound effects and the characters sang their little songs, very cute I'm so glad audiobooks exist so I finally got around to finishing this。 The one I listened to was really well done and included sound effects and the characters sang their little songs, very cute 。。。more

For my family this book has always been a perfect read and I dared not touch it precisely because of this。 I grew up with my dad and sister bonding over this story and feeling somehow excluded, like an outsider prohibited from joining a secret club。 Years later, even when I grew to love reading, this book felt like an artefact, something entirely "not for me"。 Now that I'm over 30 this seems like the silliest of ways to look at a story。Do I regret waiting for so long to read this? No。 Was this everything I expected after years of this book being a topic of conversations at the family table? Also no, but it did not disappoint。Much like Hobbit before it, The Fellowship is a charming story。 Far more song and marrymaking than I expected。 You can feel that this is a story that spun from love and academic knowledge of literature, linguistics and folklore (which makes me glad I read it now, when I'm knowledgeable about these topics and understand English, something that my 12 year old self would not be able to appreciate simply because she was A BABY)。I enjoyed everything - the songs, the dialogues, the settings, nature descriptions, most of the characters。 Even though I know the plot it was still a joy to experience it on the pages。I will defenitely read the entire trilogy。 。。。more

I still don't know why I hated Tolkien so much when I tried to read him last year。 This story and The Hobbit are so cozy。 They feel like coming home again and are the perfect fall read。 10/10 would recommend。 I still don't know why I hated Tolkien so much when I tried to read him last year。 This story and The Hobbit are so cozy。 They feel like coming home again and are the perfect fall read。 10/10 would recommend。 。。。more

so many mixed emotions…struggled w this one because there’s only one female character who speaks in the entire book however the description of middle earth is so breathtaking。 also bonus points because this book is so large i could use it as a weapon for self defense

2。8… I really really wanted to love this book。 There is no doubt Tolkien can build a high fantasy world, but I got a bit lost in the history and all the names and stories etc。 i also felt the plot lacked action and still not sure what the ring even does at this point?! I’d say this must be more of a prequel book and setting up the world building。

From the haunting descriptions of a land decimated by evil, to the sweet vignettes of an unlikely band of travelers seeking to save Middle Earth, this is an epic fantasy。 There are characters you'll love to love and others you will love to hate。 A story filled with adventure, fear, and triumph。 Worth every penny and every sleepless night reading。 From the haunting descriptions of a land decimated by evil, to the sweet vignettes of an unlikely band of travelers seeking to save Middle Earth, this is an epic fantasy。 There are characters you'll love to love and others you will love to hate。 A story filled with adventure, fear, and triumph。 Worth every penny and every sleepless night reading。 。。。more

DNF。 I've avoided trying to read this book for years because I knew it'd be too slow for me, but I decided to give it a go because all three books are currently in Kindle Unlimited。 It went exactly how I expected。 I gave this my best effort, but my interest has steadily waned with each reading session。 Sorry, guys。 This one's just not for me。 DNF。 I've avoided trying to read this book for years because I knew it'd be too slow for me, but I decided to give it a go because all three books are currently in Kindle Unlimited。 It went exactly how I expected。 I gave this my best effort, but my interest has steadily waned with each reading session。 Sorry, guys。 This one's just not for me。 。。。more

Absolutely beyond a doubt the best fantasy series ever written。 Tolkien's knack for worldbuilding is peerless, and it is on full display especially in the first half of the book, where more of the exposition is lain。 Absolutely beyond a doubt the best fantasy series ever written。 Tolkien's knack for worldbuilding is peerless, and it is on full display especially in the first half of the book, where more of the exposition is lain。 。。。more

I have to say…it’s hard to write a review for this。 Tolkien’s work has had such an impact on so many more modern tales that I love。 I can see how it shaped the fantasy genre as a whole。 Regardless, I will try to be as objective as possible。In the first book of the trilogy, I personally believe now that the plot isn’t the meat of the story, but the characters themselves。 I’m not sure if my love of the movie characters has influenced this or not, but I really just loved everyone。 I can feel their I have to say…it’s hard to write a review for this。 Tolkien’s work has had such an impact on so many more modern tales that I love。 I can see how it shaped the fantasy genre as a whole。 Regardless, I will try to be as objective as possible。In the first book of the trilogy, I personally believe now that the plot isn’t the meat of the story, but the characters themselves。 I’m not sure if my love of the movie characters has influenced this or not, but I really just loved everyone。 I can feel their personalities exuding from the pages! The plot itself is very slow in the first book, I’d say。 Not a lot happens, but at the same time, a lot happens? It’s hard to articulate。 When reading it really felt like things sometimes dragged but then looking back, I could recall all of the events and they had drastic effects on the story。 The world building is obviously one of the best ever。 I can already feel myself getting sucked into the rabbit hole of lore! My main gripe is the writing style itself but it’s also hard for me to say that given the time this was written and published。 I will say, in modern times this would have probably been edited tremendously 😅 I did find myself skimming a lot which isn’t something I do often。 Tolkien has a habit of over-explaining tinier details all while being very vague about certain points that I felt should have been elaborated on。 Maybe this will be remedied when I read the Silmarillion! Overall, it’s hard not to love this story as a whole。 It’s difficult to find fantasy books today that have the same depth but also the same “feel”。 LotR is dark in ways, but I would never consider it “grim”。 In fact, it can feel cozy and lighthearted at times and I think that’s where it shines for me。 It is very balanced。 Regardless of the negatives, I am very excited to continue on with the series! 。。。more

I highly recommend reading the books before watching the movies。 But both the books and movies are equally great。 Which very rarely is the case。

las aventuras y lo fantástico no es lo mio, exceso de descripción y una trama interesante pero con demasiado relleno donde todo tiene una solución fácil o milagrosa para los buenos。

A great introduction to an epic adventure!

I fear I’m a terrible human for rating this 4 stars, not 5。 🫣 I recognize it was written for a different audience and was revolutionary in its time。 But I’m reviewing it based on my time and my experience reading it。 I enjoyed the story。 Much of it is new to me, having only watched the movies, and that probably 15 or so years ago。 I see so much of the books I love having pulled from this book。 I enjoyed the character development and the arc of the story。 All of this gives the 4 stars。 But why no I fear I’m a terrible human for rating this 4 stars, not 5。 🫣 I recognize it was written for a different audience and was revolutionary in its time。 But I’m reviewing it based on my time and my experience reading it。 I enjoyed the story。 Much of it is new to me, having only watched the movies, and that probably 15 or so years ago。 I see so much of the books I love having pulled from this book。 I enjoyed the character development and the arc of the story。 All of this gives the 4 stars。 But why not 5 stars? For the love, all the songs and waxing poetic。 😂 I dislike poetry already。 And while Andy Serkis did a fantastic job singing in his narration, my brain just completely tuned it out every time。 Between that and description of all the scenery, this adventure book was rather slow-paced。 I have been spoiled by the pace of Brandon Sanderson。 Probably half the book takes place in elven peace, which is wonderful for Frodo and Co, and for Tolkien lovers who enjoy building out the world, but awfully boring for me。 So it’s me。 I’m the reason for the 4 stars。 And I love that so many of you can enjoy the things I do not。 5 star away, my friends。 。。。more

The world that Tolkien created is forever with us, in our minds。 Though it's a great gate for escapism, in my case 😉, how awesome is Hobbiton? And Hobbits? And ELFS?
