A spellbinding supernatural teen drama - and sequel to All Our Hidden Gifts

Maeve and her friends have revealed their powers and banded together as a coven: Roe can pick locks, Lily sends sparks flying, Maeve can read minds and Fiona can heal any injury。

And even better than their newfound talents? Roe and Maeve are officially an item。

Loved the character development and budding resolution between Maeve and Lily! This book definitely had me on my toes a lot but I think something’s left me a little confused which is why I gave it 4 stars!! Can’t wait for book three。

All up, a really decent middle novel in a trilogy。 Built on the first nicely and made me excited for the finale。 I am so impressed with Caroline O'Donoghue's writing, especially how well she writes teenage girls。 All up, a really decent middle novel in a trilogy。 Built on the first nicely and made me excited for the finale。 I am so impressed with Caroline O'Donoghue's writing, especially how well she writes teenage girls。 。。。more

Vores skjulte evner var så god! Jeg synes 1’eren var lidt bedre end 2’eren, men bogen havde samme vibes som 1’eren, så den var også super god 💚

I loved this book so so much。 There were so many twists and layers that made it just so satisfying to turn each page。 I could not put it down。 I was a little disappointed by the ending。 Disappointed isn't really the word, but it just was so out of the realm of what I expected。 I thought everything would be finished after this book, but it just left room for so much more。 I am excited at the possibility of more to come。 I loved this book so so much。 There were so many twists and layers that made it just so satisfying to turn each page。 I could not put it down。 I was a little disappointed by the ending。 Disappointed isn't really the word, but it just was so out of the realm of what I expected。 I thought everything would be finished after this book, but it just left room for so much more。 I am excited at the possibility of more to come。 。。。more

4。5, rounded up。 i love this series!!! i think i might prefer the first book a little better just because this second one got confusing at the end for me。 however! the characters- especially maeve, fiona, manon, and lily- are SO WONDERFUL! they read like real people with complicated and complex motives and feelings。 i also love roe, dont get me wrong, but im pissed at him rn。 the queer rep means a lot and is very realistic。 love it love it love it

A delightful second instalment in the All Our Hidden Gifts series, and I might have liked this one even more than the last。 This one digs deep on connections, on coming-of-age and growing up, and of redemption。 I was especially surprised how much sympathy O'Donoghue managed to create for a pretty unsympathetic character, and I'm excited to see what the gang get up to next time。 This one also has the same butter-smooth prose that made it really addictive to read。 A delightful second instalment in the All Our Hidden Gifts series, and I might have liked this one even more than the last。 This one digs deep on connections, on coming-of-age and growing up, and of redemption。 I was especially surprised how much sympathy O'Donoghue managed to create for a pretty unsympathetic character, and I'm excited to see what the gang get up to next time。 This one also has the same butter-smooth prose that made it really addictive to read。 。。。more

Maeve and her friends aren't ordinary teens。 After the events that took place in the first book, they have formed a sort of coven of their own。 But the work of the Children of Brigid is still not over which means there's no time to rest for the group of powerful teenagers。I really enjoyed reading this book。 There's something about O'Donoghue's writing style and storytelling that I find soothing。 It doesn't help that I find all things magical and occult fascinating。 I do think I enjoyed the first Maeve and her friends aren't ordinary teens。 After the events that took place in the first book, they have formed a sort of coven of their own。 But the work of the Children of Brigid is still not over which means there's no time to rest for the group of powerful teenagers。I really enjoyed reading this book。 There's something about O'Donoghue's writing style and storytelling that I find soothing。 It doesn't help that I find all things magical and occult fascinating。 I do think I enjoyed the first book more, but I still really enjoyed this one。 With the way this one ended, I am assuming there will be a third and I will happily read it and probably enjoy every second of it。 This book only proves to me that I was right in recommending the first one and I will continue to recommend this series! This is perfect for those who are interested in cults, Ireland, myths and legends, superpowers, tarot and the occult in general, and close-knit friend groups。4。5/5 stars! 。。。more

I loved the first book more but this was a nice continuation。 I love the guessing games。 I love that Maeve is so, so flawed and knows it and seeing the process and wheels turn for her。

The second book in this series was even better than the first。 The pacing was great, the plot well thought out。 This book had me DYING to flip ahead and find out what happens, which is a sign of a great nail-biting book to me。 I love how magic is portrayed in this setting: it’s a perfect blend of fantasy elements in a modern setting。 The friendships and characters feel real, and palpable。 The fact that LGBTQ+ subject matter and topics influenced by feminism take such a large part of the story, i The second book in this series was even better than the first。 The pacing was great, the plot well thought out。 This book had me DYING to flip ahead and find out what happens, which is a sign of a great nail-biting book to me。 I love how magic is portrayed in this setting: it’s a perfect blend of fantasy elements in a modern setting。 The friendships and characters feel real, and palpable。 The fact that LGBTQ+ subject matter and topics influenced by feminism take such a large part of the story, in such a well done way, is so refreshing。 I enjoyed seeing Lily and Maeve build their friendship again, in a realistic way。 I enjoyed Maeve and Roe ‘s imperfect relationship- and imperfect is something this book also is so great at。I’m not sure how I feel about the sudden Aaron redemption arc, and Roe remembering everything that happened again felt a bit rushed and cheesy。 Manon was a fun addition to the cast, and Nuala’s involvement with a bunch of kids has always seemed a bit weird to me, so it was nice to have Nuala to bridge that gap a bit。 But these are just little issues。 Again, I really wished this series existed when I was a teenager- It would’ve been revolutionary to me, but I’m glad it’s here now, and I’m eager for the last installment 。。。more

I am so enjoying this series。 I really appreciate Maeve’s incredibly flawed character, the setting, and the friendships and characters。

I found this even messier than the first, though again very easily readable with a compelling voice。 The series just isn't for me I think。 The magical explanations all seemed so convoluted and dumped in at the end。 Like we're relying on (basically) one witchy magic-shop lady to give us All The Answers about the magic in their town。 And the Children Of Brigid just made no sense 😭 at first they're a christian extremist group and then they're actually magical secret witch organisation hungry for al I found this even messier than the first, though again very easily readable with a compelling voice。 The series just isn't for me I think。 The magical explanations all seemed so convoluted and dumped in at the end。 Like we're relying on (basically) one witchy magic-shop lady to give us All The Answers about the magic in their town。 And the Children Of Brigid just made no sense 😭 at first they're a christian extremist group and then they're actually magical secret witch organisation hungry for all the magic。 These concepts don't even align。 Christians do not like magic。 "Okay but it's a front for their evil!" Then all the christian propaganda stuff was pointless to their agenda。。。。???? And they never even said WHY the Children of Brigid wanted magic in the first place。 Wtf were they doing with it。 It was just like "they're greedy for power!" ok but what power are they amassing from it when magic is hush-hush? Like I want to know WHY and I also want to know HOW。 And so far I've read 800 pgs of this series and still have no answers。Also disappointed Maeve didn't learn much from being called out 3939 times in book one。 She's still super selfish and absolutely has no concept of what Fiona, her singular brown friend, has to go through to maintain a level of perfection。 She literally cheats off Fiona in class and causes Fiona's scholarship (which her future depends on) to be jeopardised。Lily's arc also felt oddly disjointed, because it seemed they were going for "now she is slightly inhuman and seriously magical and won't know when to stop" but it just。。。forgot to go there by the end。 And then Roe turned out to be a jerk, really, and Roe/Maeve's relationship thinned so much that I actually am not sure why they're in love? He was barely around when he was my favourite in the last book。And I have to say it makes me seriously uncomfortable that Aaron became such a big part and his backstory was literally "severely mentally ill and abused teen grows up to being a magic gay-hating extremist"。 Like what the actual fuck。 He didn't get "forgiven" per se, but I just don't want to read about this, so I guess that's personal。 I hate when people give the villains reason to be evil by making them mentally ill。 It's so harmful。 。。。more

You may wish to read my review of All Our Hidden Gifts, the first book in the series, before reading the sequel review:https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/4。。。The Gifts That Bind Us by Caroline O'Donoghue has been listed as book two of two。 That indicates to me that there are no sequels to come, but numerous reviews have suggested that the reviewer is pantingly awaiting one。 So I'm a little confused。Much as I was by the ending of this book, which tied up few loose ends but also left many plot po You may wish to read my review of All Our Hidden Gifts, the first book in the series, before reading the sequel review:https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/4。。。The Gifts That Bind Us by Caroline O'Donoghue has been listed as book two of two。 That indicates to me that there are no sequels to come, but numerous reviews have suggested that the reviewer is pantingly awaiting one。 So I'm a little confused。Much as I was by the ending of this book, which tied up few loose ends but also left many plot points in abeyance。 Which is why I gave this delightful continuation less than five stars。The Gifts That Bind Us is, as the author says on Goodreads, a banger。 The gang has returned for a summer of practicing magic, but Roe is going on to college and life as a rock star。 When the girls return to school, they are almost immediately separated。 Students are tracked and superstar Fiona is slated for the heights, whereas Maeve and Lily must descend (literally) to the basement。 Since Lily is still mad at Maeve, with both girls vying to be Fiona's bestie, school is even more painful。Children of Brigid leader Aaron is back, too, seemingly intent on bringing fellow sensitive Maeve into the fold, but she denies his offer three times。 Will our beloved magical group survive the responding onslaught? (And will Maeve and Roe survive as a couple?) And is the hip school counselor, Heather Banbury, friend or foe?Lots of magic, lots of tarot, lots of action, as these questions are answered--and more begun。 I read it in a fever, but at the end, I was more confused than satisfied。***ETA: I now read there will be one final book in the series。 Ah。 Ahhh。 Okay。 。。。more

3。5 🌟 This sequel follows book one right after the Aftermath of events in the story。 I liked this one, just as much as the former。 It delves more deeply into the group dynamics and their struggles and strength, and I liked it that they stared to work together more in this one。 Excited to read the conclusion!

The only thing about this book that upsets me is how long I have to wait for the next one in the series。

this book went in a totally unexpected direction then i thought it would go but i really really liked it。 content warnings: self harm, mention of suicide, slut-shaming, homophobiathis was a really good sequel!! the plot was so engaging and unique enough from book one but the book still has all of the same lovable parts。 the writing of this series is phenomenal。 it’s easy to read and gives the book an air of fun and charm even while talking about serious topics。 it’s a young adult book for young this book went in a totally unexpected direction then i thought it would go but i really really liked it。 content warnings: self harm, mention of suicide, slut-shaming, homophobiathis was a really good sequel!! the plot was so engaging and unique enough from book one but the book still has all of the same lovable parts。 the writing of this series is phenomenal。 it’s easy to read and gives the book an air of fun and charm even while talking about serious topics。 it’s a young adult book for young adults and the narrator and storytelling feels like a young adult, which is perfect。 this book also gave a much deeper look into the characters we already know and love。 we saw how each of the four main characters grappled with the traumatic events of book one, and they all did it in such different ways。 i loved maeve in this book as well, even if some of her ideas and actions were…not the smartest。 i loved fiona and lily and being able to learn more about both of them。 roe felt like the most different in this book, and the most absent。 their relationship with maeve was also really complicated but im glad it was resolved at the end。 the other characters, like nuala and manon were such great additions to the group!speaking of the end, it felt really really abrupt like i wasn’t even sure it was the end…but it was。 it felt like it was heavily implying a third book? is there gonna be third book? i really really hope so! i love this series and these characters so much ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 。。。more
