Summary

Here is the fifteenth magical installment of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling series of fractured fairy tales for fearless kids!

Put on your dancing shoes!

Believe it or not, there's a fairy named Maryrose LIVING in my house。 And she's sending me and my brother, Jonah, through the magic mirror and into the story of The Twelve Dancing Princesses。 There, we meet the twelve sisters who sneak out every night to go dancing。 But Jonah and I have our own mission。 It's up to us to find the enchanted object that will give Maryrose her fairy powers back。

So now we need to:
-Get our hands on an invisibility cloak
-Follow the twelve princesses to their secret hideout。
-Learn some VERY complicated dance steps。
-And avoid being thrown in the dungeon。

We better wiggle our way out of this magical mess or we'll never help our fairy friend in time!

I've been reading this series since I was really little and I like to read them with my niece now so I can talk about them with her。 This one was definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite, in the series and if I was younger I would've given it 4 or 5 stars for sure。 I've been reading this series since I was really little and I like to read them with my niece now so I can talk about them with her。 This one was definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite, in the series and if I was younger I would've given it 4 or 5 stars for sure。 。。。more

I truly love the series don’t get me wrong。 I just feel like nothing all to exciting happened in this book。 They didn’t even have a main villain。 I really love the rest of the series and rated the rest 5 stars just。。。。。 not this one。 I would also like to thank Sarah Mlynowski for releasing this series。 If it wasn’t for this series I might not love to read。 This is the series that got me going so thank you for that。❤️📚

Thanks to Edelweiss+ for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!I've ready every Whatever After book (it's been 10 years since the first one, wow), so I figured I would read this one for nostalgia's sake。 Was it the best book I've ever read? Definitely not。 But it was okay, especially for the target audience。At the end of the last book, Maryrose, the fairy in Abby's mirror, was freed。 She's now living in Abby's room, weak and in need of healing。 Abby and Jonah have to go to the kingdom of Douze and find the crown ruby。Turns out that the kingdom of Douze is the kingdom that the Twelve Dancing Princesses takes place in!Quick summary of the Twelve Dancing Princesses for those who never read the fairytale or saw the Barbie movie: Every evening, 12 princesses (who are sisters) go somewhere--nobody knows where--and wear out their shoes。 The king gets tired of having to pay for 12 pairs of shoes literally every day, so he offers a reward to anyone who can tell him what the princesses are doing; the man who finds out what the princesses do at night will get one of their hands in marriage。 Sounds easy, right? Well, no。 The men who attempt the challenge spend the night outside the princesses' room。 Unfortunately, the princesses drug them so they fall asleep, and after 3 nights, the men are executed。 But along comes this old soldier guy; he, with the help of an invisible cloak from a fairy/witch lady, follows the princesses down a secret door in the floor of their room to an underground castle where they dance the night away with princes。 He brings back proof of the underground castle, and marries the oldest princess (unfortunately for her)。Back to the book。Abby and Jonah quickly find the crown with the crown ruby, but they don't have a way to get it。 Luckily for them, the prince who is currently trying to discover the princess's secret is an idiot。 The prince, Gene, will happily give them the crown ruby if they help him win the challenge and marry a princess。 Abby and Jonah acquire an invisibility cloak from a fairy, and the plan is in motion。 Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, Prince Gene is an idiot, so he eats ice cream with a sleeping draught in it, so Abby and Jonah have to go instead。Abby and Jonah follow the princesses down the secret trapdoor to an underground dance party。I kid you not。 It's supposed to line up with Abby's pointless subplot about a school dance, but it's still ridiculous。 Apparently the king has banned all types of dance except ballet, so this dance resistance group holds dance parties where people can dance however they want。 Abby tries to bring back a goblet engraved with the resistance logo, but she drops it in the lake。Abby and Jonah have to go back the next night, which is the last night before the prince will be executed for failing the challenge。 They manage to bring back a goblet this time。 Abby starts to feel bad, though, when she gets to meet all the girls, who are literally named after numbers, and they turn out to be pretty nice。 After turning the evidence over to the king, King LaPear, Abby convinces him that dancing isn't wrong, and that all dancing should be allowed! He decides that yes, the 12 year old is completely right, and he restores all dancing to the kingdom。 Just like that。In a pointless 5 minute attempt at drama, the old soldier who was supposed to win the challenge in the original story steals the crown ruby。 But they catch him before he gets out of the room。Everyone is happy, and it looks like Prince Gene and Three (who calls herself Terry) might go on a date or something。Abby and Jonah return home and give the jewel to Maryrose, who is almost dead。 She immediately begins to recover。The EndWait, I just realized, I completely forgot about the cover scene。Eleven (who calls herself Ellie) wants to compete in a chess competition, but they have a ballet recital at the same time。 So Abby replaces Ellie in the recital。 Very minor subplot。The End。 Again。After-book thoughts:This was an okay book。 This is the kind of book that 12-year-old me would've eaten up, but now it seems very predictable and cliché。 But 7-12 is the target audience, so I can't be too harsh。 Honestly, other than the ridiculous predictability, there was anything I hated about it。 I only highlighted a few things that I didn't like, and it was just stupid things that rubbed me the wrong way。 Like sneaking spaghetti and meatballs into a napkin and giving it to Maryrose。 There is going to be paper napkin stuck in her food now。 There's no way that didn't make a mess。 And people falling over like dominoes, like that actually happens in real life。 So no major complaints。 It's a very straightforward kids' book, which is why I won't judge it too harshly。I'm giving this book the second-highest score: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 。。。more

I've read this whole series and then listened to them all with my boys (now 10, 8, 4, 3)。 My 4yo, who is currently in a "Turn that story off!" mood for audiobooks, liked this one。 I knew it came out in April, but I kept checking to see when the audio version would be available on Hoopla。 We listened to this on our way home from a family vacation in Michigan。 I liked this one, but it wasn't one of my favorites, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars。 But overall, I LOVE the series (I can't think of a ser I've read this whole series and then listened to them all with my boys (now 10, 8, 4, 3)。 My 4yo, who is currently in a "Turn that story off!" mood for audiobooks, liked this one。 I knew it came out in April, but I kept checking to see when the audio version would be available on Hoopla。 We listened to this on our way home from a family vacation in Michigan。 I liked this one, but it wasn't one of my favorites, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars。 But overall, I LOVE the series (I can't think of a series of 15+2 books that I've kept up with reading all of them as an adult)。 。。。more

I've read adaptations of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," but none of them were as entertaining as this one! It has it's own self-contained story, as well as furthering the larger story of Abby, Jonah, and Maryrose。 Can't wait until the next one! I'm probably very biased in this review since Sarah Mlynowski is my all time favorite author, but I loved this book。 Just like its predecessors in the series, Just Dance shakes up traditional fairy tales and turns them into fun, feminist stories with important messages about being and loving yourself, as well as the importance of family and friends。 With lots of laughs and also heart, like all of Mlynowski's works, I finished this book in one sitting。 As usual, I can't wait for the next installm I'm probably very biased in this review since Sarah Mlynowski is my all time favorite author, but I loved this book。 Just like its predecessors in the series, Just Dance shakes up traditional fairy tales and turns them into fun, feminist stories with important messages about being and loving yourself, as well as the importance of family and friends。 With lots of laughs and also heart, like all of Mlynowski's works, I finished this book in one sitting。 As usual, I can't wait for the next installment! 。。。more

Oh my gosh yes yes YES!! After this ending it sounds like for sure Sarah Mlynowski is going to write hopefully a few more of these! Or at least another one and now that I'm caught up with this series, I'm excited to see which story she sends Abby and Jonah in next or if she'll do another Special Edition with Abby's friends perhaps。 Either way, I'd love to see more now and now knowing about the evil fairy Gluck from the two special editions and his role in the Maryrose story, it's time his story Oh my gosh yes yes YES!! Now that I'm officially caught up since this came out just two days ago, I'm hoping to one day not only get this entire series for my future kids, but for my cute 5 month old niece who made me an aunt for the first time back in January and I'm hoping to one day read these to her! *heart eyes*And also last note: for any mom who's looking for good, fun, clean stories for their kids, these are it and perfect even for little boys who will totally relate to Jonah and vice versa with girls and Abby。 These are seriously so much fun and I'm absolutely loving them! Seriously the cutest books ever! 。。。more
