This sample of the book gave a good insight into what is becoming a much reported medical problem。 Having suffered myself from this problem, I found some helpful tips and it would be interesting to try out the recipes。

Good overviewGood overview of a number of interconnected concepts。 Explained well in language that was easy to understand。 Lots of references back to the author’s site and other sources of information。 So, although this book covered a lot, it provided links for further reading。 Includes a number of recipes that look straightforward, using ingredients I know I can source。

In Love Your Gut, registered dietician Megan Rossi provides a very simple explanation of how your gut and its microbiome work。 She then offers guidance on identifying and treating various gut problems, such as constipation, bloating, acid reflux, IBS, and food intolerances。 The book functions somewhat like a workbook, with numerous assessments, flow charts, and worksheets to help you design your own plan for improving your gut health。 Because of these features, I think this book will work better In Love Your Gut, registered dietician Megan Rossi provides a very simple explanation of how your gut and its microbiome work。 She then offers guidance on identifying and treating various gut problems, such as constipation, bloating, acid reflux, IBS, and food intolerances。 The book functions somewhat like a workbook, with numerous assessments, flow charts, and worksheets to help you design your own plan for improving your gut health。 Because of these features, I think this book will work better as a paperback than an ebook。I appreciated the chapters on sleep, stress, and exercise。 Dr。 Rossi includes a series of yoga exercises that I’ve found helpful, as well as suggestions for strengthening the pelvic floor and giving yourself an abdominal massage。Almost a third of the book consists of high-fiber, plant-powered recipes that the author describes as offering flexibility for “intolerances, time limitations, space constraints, budgets, [and] cooking skills。” I tried a good sampling of the recipes and was happy with their flexibility, healthiness, and flavor。 Some of the recipes looked very easy, and some were more challenging, but they did seem clearly written with helpful tips。 All of the recipes feature a diversity of plant foods and can be made vegetarian; most could be made vegan。 Many of the recipes include gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, or nightshades, but they are usually still workable with her suggested substitutions or omissions for those with allergies or intolerances。 The Quinoa Sushi Rolls were excellent and will become part of my regular recipe rotation。 I was delighted by the recipe templates, such as Mix-and-Match Porridge, Mix-and-Match Sliders, and Good Gut Bowls, that offer different choices for each category of ingredients。 This is a great way to use up leftovers, and if you’re feeding a group, it allows each person to customize their meal。 Recipes such as Fermented Overnight Oats and Microwave Popcorn are easy to assemble and offer a choice of toppings。Most of the recipes include photographs on a separate page, but I was disappointed that the book doesn’t include nutritional data。 Some recipes include ingredients that may be unfamiliar and difficult to find, such as freekeh, banana flour, and gelatin sheets, but most recipes can be made with more widely available ingredients。 Some recipes require a food processor。 The recipes were originally written for publication in the UK, and measurements aren’t always easy to accommodate in the USA without a food scale; as an example, I wasn’t sure how to measure 5 ounces (150 grams) of sweet potato, or 1。5 ounces (40 grams) of oats。The book also includes information about and recipes for fermenting and sprouting。If you’re looking for healthy new recipes to add more variety to your diet, this is worth trying。 Although much of this content will likely be review if you’ve read much on the subject, this is a good book if you’re experiencing unpleasant gut symptoms and want an individualized plan for improving your gut health。 You might still need to work with a gastroenterologist and/or a dietician, but this is a good place to start。 I also recommend The Bloated Belly Whisperer by Tamara Duker Freuman。I was provided an unproofed ARC through NetGalley that I volunteered to review。 。。。more

I chose this book because I have a keen interest in healthy eating。 I'm not a major healthy eater (I'm the wrong size and shape for that) but I try to make good food choices, I like cooking from scratch, and i'm interested in the science of food。 'Eat yourself healthy' also appealed to me as it didn't come across as a standard diet and weight loss book, this seemed to just be focusing more on the whole health of your body。This is a really informative book, Megan Rossi knows her stuff and relays I chose this book because I have a keen interest in healthy eating。 I'm not a major healthy eater (I'm the wrong size and shape for that) but I try to make good food choices, I like cooking from scratch, and i'm interested in the science of food。 'Eat yourself healthy' also appealed to me as it didn't come across as a standard diet and weight loss book, this seemed to just be focusing more on the whole health of your body。This is a really informative book, Megan Rossi knows her stuff and relays that information in a straight forward and understandable way。 The book is also interactive, as you can follow links (if you have the e-book version, hardcopy readers will just have to do it the old fashioned way and type in the web address) to take different types of self assessments。 So you can learn where you are within mind and body at the moment of reading, and take re-assessments along the way to track your journey。Of course this wouldn't be a complete healthy eating book if it didn't contain some recipes, so of course it does。 There are some 'interesting' recipes within, not all to my taste, and some contain ingredients way beyond my standard shopping list but they could be worth a try。 (The sautéed Brussel sprouts and tenderstem broccoli with pesto and wild rice sounds tempting)My top take away from 'Eat yourself healthy' is the suggestion for gut goodness bowls。 Rossi provides you with various ingredients divided into columns like 'Fibre Base' 'Fermented Flavours' 'Healthy fats' and 'Dress and Coat'。 You then essentially mix and match ingredients from these columns to create your own gut goodness bowl。 I think its a great idea, you know you're making healthy choices, and with just a few ingredients you can create a whole variety of different choices。On the whole 'Eat Yourself Healthy' is a useful and informative book, not exactly ground-breaking in the science and diet department but still a great source of information。 。。。more

This book has been such an eye opener。 Unlike other "health" books this one gives you so much information on the science of the body and how it needs to be treated to be healthy。 To learn about the body to be able to be healthy is so much more important than just going on a diet but to be able to change your diet for the best。 Definitely recommend to those who want to change the way they see their body and want to be more healthy。 This book has been such an eye opener。 Unlike other "health" books this one gives you so much information on the science of the body and how it needs to be treated to be healthy。 To learn about the body to be able to be healthy is so much more important than just going on a diet but to be able to change your diet for the best。 Definitely recommend to those who want to change the way they see their body and want to be more healthy。 。。。more

I don’t suffer from IBS or others but I do have an issue with bloating。 The book was very informative on why it happens and what I can do to improve。I would say that the most important thing I learnt is that I don’t eat enough fibre (even though paradoxically that’s what causes bloating) and that I should vary my vegetables and fruits intake。
