A lone astronaut。
An impossible mission。
An ally he never imagined。

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish。

Except that right now, he doesn't know that。 He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it。

All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time。 And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company。

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him。 Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it's up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery-and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species。

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he's got to do it all alone。

Or does he?

An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could imagine it, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian -- while taking us to places it never dreamed of going。

Nerdy?。。 yes。 Great storyline?。。 definitely。 Although there were times I felt like I was reading a scientific research paper, I fully understood all the science stuff。 It was a fun read and kept me on my toes。 The ending was great

Well written, engaging, great characters。 Just felt like the ending leaves you wanting something more。

This was right up my alley。 I love me some good speculative existential science fiction。 And this really hit the spot。 The author goes waaaay more into the science than in the Martian so if you struggle with math, biology, physics, etc。 this book won’t be as accessible。 But it’s mostly intuitive enough to follow and enjoy。 The themes are big but mostly muted。 There’s a sense of scope that Weir is just so good at communicating in his stories。 In The Martian I felt he did such a great job at makin This was right up my alley。 I love me some good speculative existential science fiction。 And this really hit the spot。 The author goes waaaay more into the science than in the Martian so if you struggle with math, biology, physics, etc。 this book won’t be as accessible。 But it’s mostly intuitive enough to follow and enjoy。 The themes are big but mostly muted。 There’s a sense of scope that Weir is just so good at communicating in his stories。 In The Martian I felt he did such a great job at making space seem so big and deadly; that life was just so hard to manage or live in the ruthlessness of the cosmos。 This book does a bit of the same but is at its strongest in its implications not at space’s immensity but at unique wonder at humanity’s existence despite the utter absurdity and insignificance of its social constructs (particularly economic and political ones)。 Those themes soared and really left a massive feeling of connection to something bigger。 Then the interactions of the main characters throughout the tale explored some really awesome speculative sci-fi that inspires as much as it intrigues。 And, as always, Weir has an ability to make absolutely normal human functions become massive dramatic plot points when they occur off-planet。 Never will you feel so much drama when a character is doing math in his head like you do here。 Where I felt this could have improved was the over-anthropomorphization of the nonhuman characters (and it’s even alluded to throughout), the ease of the plot and it’s relative lack of climaxes, and some of the more muted themes that I wish had been better explored。 And I even felt at times the science was a little to science-y。 The way the book is written has it being told 1st person from the mind of a brilliant scientist。 And some of his thoughts on the page are very just science stream of consciousness。 Entire pages are just scientific thoughts that do have relevance but are also just sort of overdone。 In order to make it more relatable some of the writing is simplified and a bit weak。 But in the end this was a good and quick read I don’t regret and will come back to in the future。 。。。more

I need more than 5 stars to describe this book。IT WAS AMAZING。 And this is coming from somebody who doesn’t read or usually enjoy science fiction。 This book deserves all the hype it gets。 There were some complicated science concepts, but it was told to be easily understandable。 The story is very, very different, but it works。 It is so amazing to see the story unfold with flashbacks to before the mission。This book took a lot of creativity。 Even if you don’t like sci-fi, I would give this a try。 I I need more than 5 stars to describe this book。IT WAS AMAZING。 And this is coming from somebody who doesn’t read or usually enjoy science fiction。 This book deserves all the hype it gets。 There were some complicated science concepts, but it was told to be easily understandable。 The story is very, very different, but it works。 It is so amazing to see the story unfold with flashbacks to before the mission。This book took a lot of creativity。 Even if you don’t like sci-fi, I would give this a try。 I found that I really enjoyed it。 So yes, I DEFINITELY recommend。 It was so amazing。 。。。more

This book is amazing。I wish PHM had existed when I was in high school because I learned so much science。 Even better, I enjoyed the science learning process and doing all the math in my head。 I never thought I’d be this excited to revisit time dilation (being partially successful at it), spectroscopy and panspermia theories。All that alongside the rollercoaster storyline, lovable characters and emotional attachment。

I enjoyed this book immensely。 The author has a great imagination to write such a book with details that help bring the story to life。 A great read

Loved how creative this story was! Guy sent deep into space to find solution for our sun losing its energy。 Clever funny writing style。 Even tho there was a LOT of science I didn’t understand, it was very enjoyable!

Fun read that made me think。 Has the science-based problem solving approach that I liked from the Martian。 Very cool (and scary!) to think bout this situation if it actually happened。 The Rocky character is very well done。 Can’t wait for the movie!

Incredible book that got me thoroughly invested。 Plus points for a space narrative that isn't NASA American propaganda or science mumbo jumbo。 The way the protagonist's character is written helps a lot with that too。 Incredible book that got me thoroughly invested。 Plus points for a space narrative that isn't NASA American propaganda or science mumbo jumbo。 The way the protagonist's character is written helps a lot with that too。 。。。more

The best sci fi book I have read。 Haven’t read many。 But you get hooked into this。 The story Grace goes through is one hard to relate。 Tho the way Weir is able to illustrate the scenes with his words is flawless。The book brings out the importance of selflessness, friendship, trust, communication and curiosity。 There’s a great amount of science integrated, where only a little needed re-reading。 The sound science, exaggerated to life threatening situations, makes it even a more wild ride。 This shi The best sci fi book I have read。 Haven’t read many。 But you get hooked into this。 The story Grace goes through is one hard to relate。 Tho the way Weir is able to illustrate the scenes with his words is flawless。The book brings out the importance of selflessness, friendship, trust, communication and curiosity。 There’s a great amount of science integrated, where only a little needed re-reading。 The sound science, exaggerated to life threatening situations, makes it even a more wild ride。 This shit made me tear up and go wild。 。。。more

The best sci-fi book I've read this year - I binged the last 3 hours to find out whether the Earth was saved! Weir likes to dig into sci-fi details, the minute challenges of zero-G or the complexities of synthesizing food, but he doesn't neglect the more fun big picture reflections on virtue, hope, friendship, and human failings/potential。 Grace and Rocky make a great pair trying to save the worlds - (I wonder if we are supposed to read some meaning into the juxtaposition of their names)。 BTW gr The best sci-fi book I've read this year - I binged the last 3 hours to find out whether the Earth was saved! 100/5 ⭐️ even though that rating would probably make ryland cringe。 This book was so good science/math nerd or not! Sci-fi isn't usually my jam and I liked this one way more than I was expecting to! I loved the character of Dr。 Ryland Grace, loved Rocky, loved the friendship between the two。 The action was a little overwhelming at times and while I vaguely remembered the ship schematics, the kindle format made it hard to reference。 Weir did an amazing job helping the reader understand all the science in an accessible way that was really quite impressive。 I was unsure how it would end, but it was perfect。 4 st Sci-fi isn't usually my jam and I liked this one way more than I was expecting to! Overall, I'd give this book 4 1/2 stars (rounded up to 5)。 I really enjoyed this book, and found it hard to put down (to the point I was finishing it at 2am so I didn't have to go to sleep wondering how it would end!) Disclaimer - I love overly-explaining style books。 I love to know the ins and outs of the science, of why the characters think, and I even like the tedious explanations。 (Probably why I enjoy Charles Dickens and his rambles so much)。 There is a LOT of that in this book。 Not rambles Overall, I'd give this book 4 1/2 stars (rounded up to 5)。 I really enjoyed this book, and found it hard to put down (to the point I was finishing it at 2am so I didn't have to go to sleep wondering how it would end!) How they figure out language and how to communicate! Chef's kiss! (hide spoiler)] but then I'd have too many spoiler tags, so I'll just say you should read the book and find them out for yourself!Would definitely recommend this book。 。。。more

This gets bogged down at times by scientific detail that may resonate with someone with a background in astrophysics but leaves the rest of us trying to follow along。 I didn't find these details integral to the story。 None the less this is a decent read if for nothing else to see how Weir would resolve the story。 This gets bogged down at times by scientific detail that may resonate with someone with a background in astrophysics but leaves the rest of us trying to follow along。 I didn't find these details integral to the story。 None the less this is a decent read if for nothing else to see how Weir would resolve the story。 。。。more
