Once I convinced myself to ignore the arrogance of the author (himself the son of a financial advisor) touting ‘buy less Starbucks lattes and you can retire rich’ I’m very glad I picked this book up。 As a recent college graduate in her early 20’s this book was the first comprehensive personal finance tool that I read willingly and leisurely。 There is a lot of details to take in but the overarching concepts are definitely important and I will reference back to whatever chapter when considering in Once I convinced myself to ignore the arrogance of the author (himself the son of a financial advisor) touting ‘buy less Starbucks lattes and you can retire rich’ I’m very glad I picked this book up。 As a recent college graduate in her early 20’s this book was the first comprehensive personal finance tool that I read willingly and leisurely。 There is a lot of details to take in but the overarching concepts are definitely important and I will reference back to whatever chapter when considering insurance, investing, funding retirement etc。 I do appreciate the author recognizing the extra challenges women face in society that differentiate their ability to accrue wealth as easily as their male counterparts (including women taking more time off of work to care for children and sick / old family members, wives living longer than their husbands)。 I respected how David Bach genuinely cared for the financial well-being of the women reading his book and would recommend to other women in my life! 。。。more

3。5/5 ⭐️ Suggested to me by a financial planner - some of the suggestions in this books didn’t apply to my current situation, but definitely a good starter for getting my 💩 together financially

So this was。。。 well it was a ride for sure。 I skimmed, as most of this stuff was either obvious, outrageous, or just told in such a patronizing way。

Enjoyed this journey to help understand what a woman needs to know about her financial situation, how to remedy educational gaps, and set herself up to be comfortable later in life, if not sooner。

Great themes, much more helpful in a US context but at least got me jump started on what I need to start looking at。。

This book is wonderful to readjust your vision of money。 One of the main themes is not letting someone else dictate your financial future。 The author lists example after example of unintended consequences of not being an active participant in your finances。 This is a great read to gift someone who may not be participating in their financial life or depending on someone else to figure things out for them。

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and believe that studying personal finance books can never be a bad thing。 However they lost me towards the end focusing on US specific tax laws, savings accounts and insurance options not relevant to me。 Definitely thought provoking read if you are looking to get finances in order。

Long, dry but important to think about and know for the future

I saw some mixed reviews from the book, but the version I read was updated and current。 It was a good and extremely detailed book that really got into the nitty gritty of all things financial, including life insurance, long term care, etc。

*Audio BookThis book is pretty long。 It was kind of boring at the beginning when the author talked about the reasons Women should be independently financial。 However, I could tell that David Bach had dedicated a lot of time researching and editing。 Not only basic knowledge, precious information, but also valuable advise he expressed in the book。 There are step by step what you need to do, what you can do and what you should do written down on the book。 I believe you will never go broke if you fo *Audio BookThis book is pretty long。 It was kind of boring at the beginning when the author talked about the reasons Women should be independently financial。 However, I could tell that David Bach had dedicated a lot of time researching and editing。 Not only basic knowledge, precious information, but also valuable advise he expressed in the book。 There are step by step what you need to do, what you can do and what you should do written down on the book。 I believe you will never go broke if you follow his advice。 。。。more

The author is clearly knowledgeable, but I question the recommendations when the examples and motivational stories provided are not accurate and/or promote unethical and abusive business practices。 For example, when you cite Amazon's business practices and staffing retention model as an admirable way of maintaining motivated staff, I am absolutely going to make conclusions about what that means for your values and beliefs (and their lack of alignment with my own)。 It takes very little research t The author is clearly knowledgeable, but I question the recommendations when the examples and motivational stories provided are not accurate and/or promote unethical and abusive business practices。 For example, when you cite Amazon's business practices and staffing retention model as an admirable way of maintaining motivated staff, I am absolutely going to make conclusions about what that means for your values and beliefs (and their lack of alignment with my own)。 It takes very little research to learn that the Amazon business plan requires staff turn over to be successful, which basically guarantees that employees will be exposed to toxic work environments。 I do not trust the author as a result and while I might find it a good study in business practices that I do not want to be in any of my investments, I also feel very uncomfortable taking lessons in meditation or gratitude when reading a financial guide, particularly if this author values profit over human and/or labor rights。 However, if an editor somewhere created a book of just the financial worksheets or details about the types of accounts that can be utilized, this could be a very useful resource。 。。。more

Such great information in this book!

This book covers EVERYTHING。 I will definitely be reading it again to make sure I’ve absorbed all the information but I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to really get a grip on their finances but doesn’t know where to start。

Very thorough。 The author gives incredible insight and frequently offers online resources to get your finances in shape。 Brutally honest and doesn’t shy away from taking an in-depth look at financial security。 No shame or fear mongering but can be a little overwhelming to those who are just now looking at their finances。 You have to be in the right “mindset” or in a mode or getting your finances in order to truly grasp the whole book。 But it is an excellent resource nonetheless。 While the origin Very thorough。 The author gives incredible insight and frequently offers online resources to get your finances in shape。 Brutally honest and doesn’t shy away from taking an in-depth look at financial security。 No shame or fear mongering but can be a little overwhelming to those who are just now looking at their finances。 You have to be in the right “mindset” or in a mode or getting your finances in order to truly grasp the whole book。 But it is an excellent resource nonetheless。 While the original book may have been written in 1999 (revised in earlier 2000’s), everything in this book is still useful today。 Gained a lot of perspective, knowledge, resources, and insight into my own finances。 。。。more

Passed it on to my daughter after I read it。 I HOPE she reads it, as I wish my mom had taught me these fundamentals when I was young。

An extremely approachable take on finance focusing on investing, especially for retirement。 What Bach lays out is relatively easy to tackle and navigate。 Highly recommend this to anyone, not just women。 I plan on reading two of his other books— The Automatic Millionaire and The Latte Factor to delve deeper into some of his advice。 Doesn’t feel condescending or like I’m walking away embarrassed about my current financial situation。Well written and conversational。 Not a bunch of finance jargon and An extremely approachable take on finance focusing on investing, especially for retirement。 What Bach lays out is relatively easy to tackle and navigate。 Highly recommend this to anyone, not just women。 I plan on reading two of his other books— The Automatic Millionaire and The Latte Factor to delve deeper into some of his advice。 Doesn’t feel condescending or like I’m walking away embarrassed about my current financial situation。Well written and conversational。 Not a bunch of finance jargon and what of the jargon there is, he explains concisely。 。。。more

If you don't know anything about finances, this is a great start! I was introduced to this by my best friend。 After going through divorce and building my life back in the US as a single 26 yr old, it was quite overwhelming when thinking about the future。 The original is a little outdated but there is a new one that was released after I finished reading。 Because of this book, my girlfriends and I started a monthly book club which eventually helped us make better financial decisions。 Long Story sh If you don't know anything about finances, this is a great start! A great book to help women understand different aspects of finance。 Very helpful for women to take control of finances vs depending on others for it。

Very helpful book。 It affirmed my experience as a divorced female。 Every woman should read this book。

I find a lot of insights and most of the steps are very applicable。 But, the tips and many of the detailed information are only for people living in the US。

Great to have some idea of where to start

Excellent book!!! Would recommend reading to anyone trying to learn how to manage their finances。 This book was filled with a lot of great information and is the type of book you go to again and again because there is way too much information to just read through one time

Great book for anyone, especially if you’re in a relationship。

Nice direction however pretty dated unless I’m missing an updated version。 You could likely find better books written in the last five years that make more sense。 I appreciated Mindful Money and The Bogleheads Guide to Investing

I read this book in college and again as a newlywed。 While it might not be current anymore in terms of investment strategies I still would recommend borrowing a copy for 2 reasons。 Which are relevant and should impact the way you think about money。 Establishing a budget that matches your values for saving and investing。 And numerous cautionary tales about losing interest in joint finances or assets。 He lays out that you need to stay involved and give examples of what can happen when you don't in I read this book in college and again as a newlywed。 While it might not be current anymore in terms of investment strategies I still would recommend borrowing a copy for 2 reasons。 Which are relevant and should impact the way you think about money。 Establishing a budget that matches your values for saving and investing。 And numerous cautionary tales about losing interest in joint finances or assets。 He lays out that you need to stay involved and give examples of what can happen when you don't in the event of losing a spouse to death or divorce。 It really stuck with me and as a result I approach joint assets differently than I would've had I read other popular finance books。 While some might bristle at gender stereotypes many of these situations are still unfortunately real and need to be discussed。 Gender wage inequality has not been solved, women continue to have longer life expectancy so these topics are important and remain relevant。 I am now seeing these same cautionary tales of divorces in those over 40, I don't know many divorces under 40 to compare (partially because so many people I know are getting married older)。 They say that the covid pandemic has set back women's careers so I don't think either of the 2 reasons I recommend for reading the book will be irrelevant anytime soon。 。。。more

How the author teaches about things needs to learn about 'money' in this book quite briefly。 However, it is NOT A LIGHT READING。 I personally need to read it twice or three times each chapter to make me understand the meaning of each chapter LOL。 I even tried to take few notes to make myself clear about what I've read in this book。 However, some chapters like 'insurance' and retirement account' or something related with that only applicable on the USA, I guess?
