Summary

Gifted thief Romeria has flourished from her days as a street kid pilfering wallets to survive。 Now she thrives, stealing jewels from the rich under the involuntary employ of New York City’s most notorious crime boss。 But when an enigmatic woman secures her services at swordpoint, Romeria is plunged into a startling realm of opposing thrones, warring elven, and elemental magic she cannot begin to fathom。

Her quest is straightforward: Steal a stone from Islor’s sacred garden without anyone discovering her true identity, which would earn her certain death。 But the identity she has inexplicably assumed is that of the captured Ybarisan princess—an enemy to Islor after she poisoned their beloved king and queen on the day she was to marry the prince。

Her betrothed, the newly crowned King Zander, detests her with every grain of his handsome being。 Fortunately for Romeria, she is more valuable to him alive than dead。 Zander gives her a choice: life in a cell, or an acquittal of all charges in exchange for her help in exposing the growing plot against him。

Romeria sees no other option and embraces the tricky role of smitten queen-to-be until she can escape, a ruse that brings her far closer to the king than she anticipated and threatens more than her safety。 As she digs deeper into this sacred garden and the ancient feud between Ybaris and Islor, she discovers monstrous truths that could spell ruin for all。

She would know the world of vengeful gods and monsters, and the lengths one would go for love。 And nothing would ever be the same for her again。

As someone who's read almost all of her contemporary romance novels, I was definitely interested when I saw she had written a fantasy and overall really enjoyed it。This is definitely more YA than I typically lean, especially in regard to the romance。 The world and politics are definitely reminiscent of From Blood and Ash, but I do feel like it's maybe a touch more fleshed out or interesting。 Due to the nature of the story, there is a good amount of info dumping, which could be irritating to some As someone who's read almost all of her contemporary romance novels, I was definitely interested when I saw she had written a fantasy and overall really enjoyed it。This is definitely more YA than I typically lean, especially in regard to the romance。 The world and politics are definitely reminiscent of From Blood and Ash, but I do feel like it's maybe a touch more fleshed out or interesting。 Due to the nature of the story, there is a good amount of info dumping, which could be irritating to some。 I think my biggest critique is it just felt so long, mostly because it was。 There were some definite slow parts that I feel could have been edited and it would have made the whole thing a bit more exciting。Very excited to see where the story goes next though。 。。。more

I am a huge KA Tucker fan and I was so excited for her journey into Fantasy! I truly enjoyed A Fate of of Wrath and Flame! So impressed with K。A。 Tucker’s fantasy writing。 I was curious how I would feel about the change of writing from her Simple Wild contemporary romance series (which I loved!) to Fantasy, and this woman can write! Although most fantasy novels have things in common, this one really kept me on my toes。 And I have to say, I love me a good enemies to lovers trope, and this book gives that to its readers PLUS found family trope and so much more。 I am glad this is a series and not a stand alone because So impressed with K。A。 Tucker’s fantasy writing。 I was curious how I would feel about the change of writing from her Simple Wild contemporary romance series (which I loved!) to Fantasy, and this woman can write! I’v read a few of KA Tucker’s books and really enjoyed them, so my interest was piqued when I saw she was venturing into the fantasy genre。 I was NOT disappointed。 I devoured this book and immediately dove in to (into? this is a grammar thing I met never learn) the sequel。 Actually, I was fortunate to stumble on to this one when it was on kindle unlimited but liked it so much I needed a physical copy。I appreciated the intricate, richly developed world。 World building is one of my favorite things I’v read a few of KA Tucker’s books and really enjoyed them, so my interest was piqued when I saw she was venturing into the fantasy genre。 I was NOT disappointed。 I devoured this book and immediately dove in to (into? this is a grammar thing I met never learn) the sequel。 Actually, I was fortunate to stumble on to this one when it was on kindle unlimited but liked it so much I needed a physical copy。I appreciated the intricate, richly developed world。 World building is one of my favorite things about my fantasy reads and there was no scrimping here。 I really got a feel for how it was set up not only geographically, but history, mythology, culture, social structure, traditions were all sprinkled in to make the world truly immersive。You know that thing where the characters are so well developed that you care about and are invested in the side characters as much as the MCs? That’s the case here! The plot was intriguing, perfectly paced, and had me completely invested。 You have these kind of duel dimensions, Magic, meddling gods, prophecy, betrayal, an enemies to lovers slow burn- needless to say I may have shirked some responsibilities to keep turning pages- can’t wait up see where this one goes! 。。。more

UM this slapped!!! I didn’t read it for so long because it fell to the background mainly because of the title reminding me of some many other copy paste fantasy stories HOWEVER the plot was so well done and the characters were so well developed that I LOVED it and cannot wait to read the second book; were there aspects of the story that seem inspired by other popular fantasy books? yes there were; but I still found it very enjoyable with a GREAT storyline

The main draw for me was the world and the overall story。 There is a lot that can be done with this world that could be very interesting as the season progresses。My main frustration with this book is the FMC。 She is supposedly this former NYC street kid turned exemplary thief but she lacks the toughness and attitude you might expect from someone who lived that life。 She also only steals one thing in the book and is immediately caught by a side character。 She is often naïve and too trusting and f The main draw for me was the world and the overall story。 There is a lot that can be done with this world that could be very interesting as the season progresses。My main frustration with this book is the FMC。 She is supposedly this former NYC street kid turned exemplary thief but she lacks the toughness and attitude you might expect from someone who lived that life。 She also only steals one thing in the book and is immediately caught by a side character。 She is often naïve and too trusting and forgiving - which is very weird for someone with her background。 I wish she had a background that matched her personality and behaviors。 。。。more

I am currently in a "fantasy romance" kind of mood these days, and this was a fun quick read that fit the bill! I also enjoyed the different take on how the main character gets to her new world and I'm interested to see how this story continues。 Will definitely be picking up the second book! I’ve yet to read a K。A。 Tucker book that I didn’t enjoy, but this is so different from her other books。 More like this please! It’s crazy imaginative and I can’t wait to see where the story goes。 Though I was able to guess bits of the ending, the overarching mystery of Romeria’s fates (plural intended) is unravelling nicely。 It had me hooked enough to buy the sequel rather than wait for the months-long library waitlist。

Fantasy is not my go to genre, I am a romance reader all day, everyday but when I saw KA wrote this one I had to try it。I listened to the audio book and I was hooked!I could not get enough of this world and all of the deceit and betrayal。 I need more!I will definitely be diving in to book 2 but want to experience it again with audio。 Can’t wait for it to release。

4/5Another book I picked up at random and was very glad I did! This story was slow at times but I liked the plot and the characters and I look forward to seeing what happens in the next book。 Romeria's battle to adapt to the world she was dropped into was fascinating and fun。 It's refreshing to read a book with a king who isn't evil too。 Zander was a very balanced character。 4/5Another book I picked up at random and was very glad I did! THIS!! This book is an example of why I love fantasy romances! The world-building had the perfect blend of neat mythology and intricate politics, while being unique and easy to understand。 THE ROMANCE, OH MY GOODNESS! So perfect, there was TENSION, there was PLAYFULNESS, the couple MATCHED EACH OTHER’S ENERGY, I loved it。 It was another example of my favorite dynamic, the “I get you because you’re me”。 Lastly, I really enjoyed being confused with Romeria in the beginning, I don’t know why exactl THIS!! So it took me 11 chapters to get into this。 Eleven! If it wasn’t for a book club, I would never have persevered this long。 Also, the end is not the end, which I find very frustrating。 The end felt very rushed too (granted, it’s not the end, so, I don’t know what to think about that)。

I was really impressed by this。 This was my first read of anything by Tucker, and I am intent on reading more of her work (though this series is her first dip into fantasy, as far as I know)。 I found A Fate of Wrath & Flame to be very super original but still very easy to wrap my head around。 It was everything I needed: characters that were easy to get attached to, a very engaging plot, and a wonderful romance。 I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Romeria's voice。 I thought she I was really impressed by this。 This was my first read of anything by Tucker, and I am intent on reading more of her work (though this series is her first dip into fantasy, as far as I know)。 I found A Fate of Wrath & Flame to be very super original but still very easy to wrap my head around。 It was everything I needed: characters that were easy to get attached to, a very engaging plot, and a wonderful romance。 I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Romeria's voice。 I thought she was, quite frankly, very smart and quite easy to root for。 I really enjoy fantasy that dips into political intrigue: this did so, but I wouldn't call it a "political" story necessarily。 It's just that there are a lot of people vying for this throne, and Zander seems intent on keeping it but wise in the ways he goes about it。 As such, I found Zander to be very likeable。 I'm SO excited to see more of him in the next book (which I will definitely be reading)。 He surprised me; I always found myself excited and waiting to see what he was going to do whenever he was on the page。 Frankly, I just found these characters to be very smart。 They were refreshing!Any criticism I have might be that there are a couple of scenes that are almost info-dumpy, but they ultimately felt natural because of the ways that Romy obtains her knowledge and bearings in this world。 A definite recommend! A new favorite of mine。 。。。more

There was a lot of info dumping and so many characters and names to keep track of, and I couldn't do it。 I tried so hard and I still could not fully keep up with what was going on。 Maybe I'll come back to the series later now that I at least have some background knowledge, but that was too lengthy for me。 The story and characters were otherwise alright。 There was a lot of info dumping and so many characters and names to keep track of, and I couldn't do it。 I tried so hard and I still could not fully keep up with what was going on。 Maybe I'll come back to the series later now that I at least have some background knowledge, but that was too lengthy for me。 The story and characters were otherwise alright。 。。。more

This is a fun fantasy read with great writing and an intriguing plot。 Not going to lie, I was lost for maybe the first 75 pages。 I had no idea how the conflict was going to be resolved and I was stumbling along in learning the inner workings of the new realm right alongside our FMC, Romeria。 There is a complex history to learn in this new realm and political scheming that requires readers to pay attention and not take any clue for granted。 K。A。 Tucker did a great job of keeping the reader perpet This is a fun fantasy read with great writing and an intriguing plot。 Not going to lie, I was lost for maybe the first 75 pages。 I had no idea how the conflict was going to be resolved and I was stumbling along in learning the inner workings of the new realm right alongside our FMC, Romeria。 There is a complex history to learn in this new realm and political scheming that requires readers to pay attention and not take any clue for granted。 K。A。 Tucker did a great job of keeping the reader perpetually on their toes and constantly trying (and mostly failing) to figure out what was going to happen next。 I love when an author can surprise me with a plot or a juicy twist and I was thrown for a loop towards the end of this installment。Romeria is a fun character to read who has a "no shits given" attitude and is highly skilled at surviving all on her own。 She's also quite funny and has some zingers in the dialogue。 There's action and romance to top off the book, so it really does fit any type of fantasy reader。 I am anxious to read the second one and put more pieces together! 。。。more
