Summary

Destiny or desire?

Where does your allegiance lie?

I am told my union to the crowned prince will determine the fate of the kingdom, but it isn’t my betrothed who haunts my dreams。 It’s the half-breed prince who stands at his side。

He is darkness and sin, and when he whispers promises of wickedness in my ear, I crave a man who I can’t have。

Every thought I have is treasonous。 The way my hands ache to touch him deceitful。

Even my dreams make me a traitor to the kingdom I am sworn to protect。

But when the kingdom is attacked, I am forced to make choices I’m not prepared for。 Our lies and deception are entangled in the shadows and stars, and as they unravel so shall my fate。 Betray a kingdom or betray my heart。

The main character is weak and dumb。 But at least she has a man to save her, right?

This book took me by surprise。 It was easy to read and even though it reminded me of "These Hollow Vows," it had a uniqueness to it。 I loved the characters as well even if there wasn't as much of Gavril as I wanted there to be。 Can't wait for the next book。 This book took me by surprise。 It was easy to read and even though it reminded me of "These Hollow Vows," it had a uniqueness to it。 I loved the characters as well even if there wasn't as much of Gavril as I wanted there to be。 Can't wait for the next book。 。。。more

WOW! I have been wanting to read this book since Holly first announced it since her good girl series is one of my favorites but this just shot passed that series and this is now one of my top reads of the year。 I had a big reading slump so I put off reading this until I knew I could really get into it and let me just say I stayed up way too late last night reading this and am very exhausted right now。 The story is so fast paced, the tension from the start had my heart pumping。 Loved the world, t WOW! Wow, so I'd heard some of the buzz around this book, but it was much better than I expected。 A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows is a fun and relatively short fantasy romance with ALL the tropes。 A fae kingdom is pitted against a rival kingdom of "vampyres", and the only way for any of them to increase their power is to take it from "starborn" humans who have glowing marks on their skin。 Starborn Adara is a decent sassy heroine, and I LOVED morally grey Evren as the prince。 Honestly, my one gripe was Wow, so I'd heard some of the buzz around this book, but it was much better than I expected。 A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows is a fun and relatively short fantasy romance with ALL the tropes。 A fae kingdom is pitted against a rival kingdom of "vampyres", and the only way for any of them to increase their power is to take it from "starborn" humans who have glowing marks on their skin。 Starborn Adara is a decent sassy heroine, and I LOVED morally grey Evren as the prince。 Honestly, my one gripe was that because it had so many tropes in one story it made it slightly predictable, right up until the cliffhanger ending。 THAT is what got me to preorder the next book in the series, and I'm really excited to see where the story goes from here。 。。。more

I was super excited to read this book but I’m a little disappointed。 I wasn’t a fan of the writing style and I didn’t think the plot was very good。 It was kind of predictable。 Adara was insufferable which made the book hard to read at times。 I will give the sequel a try because I haven’t given up on the series but at the moment I don’t have high hopes。

Holy Moly what a good book。 The plot centers on a very powerful woman who, despite everything, stands her ground and doesn't allow those around her to break her down。 The spice was IMMACULATE。 I will be waiting with bated breath for the second book to drop。 I normally hate cliffhangers (I am impatient) but this one was done soooo well。 Really set the stage for the second。 Loved this book <3 Holy Moly what a good book。 The plot centers on a very powerful woman who, despite everything, stands her ground and doesn't allow those around her to break her down。 The spice was IMMACULATE。 I will be waiting with bated breath for the second book to drop。 I normally hate cliffhangers (I am impatient) but this one was done soooo well。 Really set the stage for the second。 Loved this book <3 。。。more

Kingdoms, magic, fantasy, and betrayal。 I really enjoyed this book! I felt for the characters, they were fairly complex。 The book ends with a cliffhanger and unfortunately the next one isn’t out yet, but I plan to read it。

This is a good read! Very fast paced, in fact I wouldn't have minded it being a little slower。 There are a few repetitive sentences and every once in a while I wasn't sure when a character had moved bc there wasn't as much blocking or description as there could've been。 The main character is a little weak emotionally/mentally but I can tell her power is going to be legendary so I'm hoping as her personality and arc progresses that'll fix itself。 I read this to get out of a minor reading slump an This is a good read! I really really liked this book。 Everything was just so good :’) I’m still on team Evren, although he’s a bastard (hehehe pun intended) The ending was NOT something I expected at all, I mean I had an idea what was gonna happen but nothing prepared me for that。 I am floored。 I can’t wait to read the next book because this was 10/10。

Alexandra

I will be reading the second book when it comes out。 why did I rate it 1 star do you ask? Because it was basically fan fic erotic writing of FBAA essentially the exact same story line and arc (probably word for word) lol but given FBAA is my favourite book if all time, it passed the time。

I really expect her to be more badass and strong, but she’s kinda okay。 Not bad, but nothing special except with her starblessed power(?) She has dagger all the time, but she’s not really using it to her advantage, a shame really because I’m waiting until the end of this book to see her character development。 But she’s kinda disappointing。 Meanwhile Evren🥵🥵 I knew it from the start that I’m gonna fall in love with his possessiveness towards adara but boy oh boy that mouth of his💦💦 4。5 🌟for him, and him alone。 I don’t care with the plot or other characters, only him! Hahaha Okay, moving on the storyline itself focused on their characters rather than the plotline, still not much explained with how the starblessed magic works or background story about it so we will see more of it in next book i think? It’s quite a short book for the first installment and I personally think that this book is a great start for series。 。。。more

Adara is Starblessed whose blood helps high fae aquire more power by drinking her blood。 She is betrothed to the crown prince, Cavril, who ends up wanting her power more than actually her。 His mother, the queen, also wants a taste。She falls for Evren immediately。 The other prince。 He is "bad", hot, and has a filthy mouth。 The smut scenes are nice! DNF at 65%Honestly no plot and the storyline was really repetitive。 On top of that, the characters fell flat, so there was nothing to hold the book up。 Just really wasn’t for me。

A great read。 The book is paced just right, doesn’t feel rushed, nor does it drag。 If you’re a fan of from blood and ash, you are going to love this book。

WHAT IS THIS UTTER DRIVEL。I don't often write scathing reviews, but sometimes you are just compelled enough to want to give it a go。 At some point I was torn between dnf-ing this or rage-reading to the end, and I chose the latter。 Oh my lord, where do I even begin with this。 Let's start with the absolute lack of character development throughout。 I had absolutely no idea what the role of the FMC (what was her name again? Don't know and don't care) was other than being Too Dumb to Live and a sex blood magic incubator for the two main love interests。 Literally, her only purpose in this book was to be desirable prey for these two men to suck on (in more ways than one) to fortify their magic or sumshit。 Outside of that function she had ZERO personality。 Nada。 Zilch。 I think she mildly oscillates between wanting to escape this so-called prison and also wanting to throw herself at one of the two main interests, but other than that, no discernable character traits whatsoever。 Now let's move on to the two male love interests, Evren and Griffi。。。Gilbert。。Gam - I give up, I've forgotten his name already - who, outside of somehow falling head over heels in the most instalovey way with the FMC, existed solely to tell the FMC what an exquisite being she was and how they had never seen anyone as delectable and desirable as she was。 They were also needlessly possessive and abusive in a domineering and rapey way and pages and pages were filled with each man describing how FMC is "his and only his", or "destined to belong to him"。 Just strangle me already。 Also, I think there were some side characters whose function was to pepper scenes with a line or two of dialogue every now and then but were otherwise furniture。 Actually, calling them furniture would be inaccurate because you wouldn't get secondhand embarrassment from having furniture around when the main characters were moaning and growling at each other。 I had no idea if Jorah was still there, but I couldn't bring myself to care。 Not when every part of me felt like it was going to combust if [Evren] didn't touch me。 Girl, WTF。 Okay, next。 WHERE IS THE WORLDBUILDING?!I never thought I would be someone who would beg for more worldbuilding (indeed it is often the opposite, with me begging for more character interactions and fewer descriptions of spires and goblins and whatever), but this book had almost no worldbuilding whatsoever。 Yes, we know that she is betrothed to high faes or something (or was it faerie? SEE I CAN'T EVEN GET THE TERM RIGHT BECAUSE OF HOW INCONSEQUENTIAL THE DETAIL APPEARS TO BE TO THE AUTHOR) but other than a sentence about how they have somewhat pointy ears, are inhumanly beautiful (yawn) and may sometimes use magic (in ways that are illogical and inexplicable), you get ZERO information about them。 99% of the time I thought they were just overly possessive and annoying humans, such is the lack of worldbuilding。 Also, the feud between vamps and faes was never truly explained (why are they juxtaposed against each other?!?! What is the POINT of this), and neither was the way the magic worked (what are the limits of what these people can do?! how does it work? what needs to happen? clearly a secondary point to the author)。 Another point on worldbuilding。 I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what the setting was。 Are we talking Victorian? Medieval? Real life? There were horses and (I think) a carriage at one point, so perhaps not modern modern, but then none of this world made sense, given that characters switched from sounding uncharmingly quaint to talking/swearing as though they were in a 21st century action flick。 MAKE UP YOUR MIND, because the way the author uses "fuck" was entirely anachronistic。 This book also touches on various commonly-used tropes - Ch0S3n o n e, one bed, enemies (??) to lovers, forbidden love, love triangles etc。 Now, I don't have a real issue with tropes, and indeed I do have my favourite tropes, but it needs to be done well and properly。 In fact, I chose this book because the reviews on GR said that the tropes WERE executed well。 But if this is an example of tropes being done well, I shudder to think of what tropes done badly would look like。 Also, was there even a plot? I have forgotten what the plot was because 70% of the book was filled with the main characters bonking each other。 I think there was some attempt at a plot "twist" at the end, but it was something you could see from a million miles away。 Less of a plot twist than a twenty feet wide straight brick road with neon signs saying "THIS WAY PLEASE"!All in all, I couldn't tell if this was a book or a poor attempt at self-insert fanfiction。 I think I might need to read something else now to wash away this one。 。。。more
