Summary

How well do you know your neighbour?
Would you trust them with your life?

I heard Emily before I saw her。 The harsh smack of heels against cheap wooden floorboards。 The loud phone calls。 The incessant music。

I knew Emily before I met her。 Discarded receipts in our communal hallway。 Sticky leftovers in the shared food waste bin。 Wine shop vouchers in the letterbox。

Now she’s gone missing, and I’m the only one who can find her。 The only one who can save her。

Because I know her best, and I heard everything。

The Girl Upstairs is a spine-tingling psychological thriller of grief and obsession that explores how lonely London can be and how sometimes it’s our neighbours who see us most, who know us best…

A must-read for fans of Lisa Jewell and Sarah Pinborough。

A good read however I found the main character to be cliche in her obsession with the crime。 She could of been more covert in her search for Emily

The book was a whirlwind of emotions。 At the beginning of the novel I found myself finding the main character slightly annoying and very peculiar (strange too say the least) but as the story unfolds and secrets slowly emerge, you can’t help but feel guilt for the feelings you had before。I read the entire book in one day and loved the different perspectives throughout。 The attentiveness to senses and description floods the pages and transports you to where the character is in that particular mome The book was a whirlwind of emotions。 At the beginning of the novel I found myself finding the main character slightly annoying and very peculiar (strange too say the least) but as the story unfolds and secrets slowly emerge, you can’t help but feel guilt for the feelings you had before。I read the entire book in one day and loved the different perspectives throughout。 The attentiveness to senses and description floods the pages and transports you to where the character is in that particular moment。 It’s a fantastic book to get you back into reading with a hidden twist which I for one was not expecting。 Only thing I found was the ending to appear unfinished and I wanted more depth to the secrets and life the characters lived。 A lovely book with tragedy intertwined with love。 。。。more

3。45I’m not a huge fan of people going off on their own because they’re better than law enforcement, but for some reason I found this book interesting , even if a little predictable。 Not a lot happens, yet it keeps you turning pages and is a quick read

This was a perfect "reading escape" weekend book。 It was a compulsive mystery that slowly gets revealed through current happenings and also through Suzie's reminiscing about her life over the last couple of years。 Suzie is an unhappy single woman who complains a bit about her upstairs neighbor, a young professional woman。 When the neighbor goes missing and the police don't seem too concerned, Suzie decides to try and find out what happened to the girl upstairs。 This was a perfect "reading escape" weekend book。 It was a compulsive mystery that slowly gets revealed through current happenings and also through Suzie's reminiscing about her life over the last couple of years。 Suzie is an unhappy single woman who complains a bit about her upstairs neighbor, a young professional woman。 When the neighbor goes missing and the police don't seem too concerned, Suzie decides to try and find out what happened to the girl upstairs。 。。。more

Enjoyed the first third and it really drew me in。 My main criticism is that the middle section felt rather slow。Despite this, a solid read。

I found this book to be quite slow paced, not a twisty exciting thriller at all。 I found the main character a bit irritating and the entire storyline was based on her feeling like she knew her noisy neighbour best and doing her own investigation。 It all felt a bit ridiculous and far fetched。 I also guessed the twist fairly early on so I was disappointed unfortunately。

This was incredibly slow and the ending was super unsatisfying。

3。5 stars。 This one played with my mind。 I kept trying to figure out what was happening and how the people were interconnected。 I just knew it was more than what they were telling me!

If you've ever lived in an apartment, or stayed in a hotel even, you have likely experience noisy neighbors at some point in time。 Such is Suzie's dilemma in Georgina Lees' debut novel The Girl Upstairs, a suspense thriller about a vibrant young woman who goes missing and the lonely, grief-stricken neighbor who attempts to find her。Suzie can't say that she enjoys living in the apartment below Emily。 Emily's life is everything Suzie's is not - Emily is up all hours of the night, has a multitude o If you've ever lived in an apartment, or stayed in a hotel even, you have likely experience noisy neighbors at some point in time。 Such is Suzie's dilemma in Georgina Lees' debut novel The Girl Upstairs, a suspense thriller about a vibrant young woman who goes missing and the lonely, grief-stricken neighbor who attempts to find her。Suzie can't say that she enjoys living in the apartment below Emily。 Emily's life is everything Suzie's is not - Emily is up all hours of the night, has a multitude of friends, and is known to throw some pretty wild parties。 Suzie can't help but keep track of Emily's every move because Emily is such a boisterous apartment tenant。 So when the hubbub in Emily's apartment suddenly stops, Suzie takes notice。 The only problem is she can't get the police to take her seriously。 Lost in her own grief after the death of her husband, Suzie launches an investigation into Emily's disappearance。 Can she find Emily before it's too late? The Girl Upstairs is a solid, albeit not entirely original, suspense thriller。 Very much a slow burn, this novel places a grieving widow in the role of amateur sleuth as she follows the trail of clues that will lead her to her missing neighbor。 If you like modern day mysteries featuring light detective work, The Girl Upstairs may be right up your alley。 As for me, this novel moved too slowly for my liking and ended in a way that was neither surprising or memorable。 The Girl Upstairs is pretty standard fare for a suspense novel - the story is decent, but it's all been done before。 。。。more

My first audio book! Definitely kept me alert and entertained while driving! I liked how the narrator said “bitch” in her British accent 😂 nothing too exciting just a good average book for me。

Oooo creepy one this, but very enjoyable!!! Loved it and had me guessing until the end。 Really liked this even though I’ve read a lot of this genre, great book。

I wasn’t really sure about this book at first but stuck with it and was glad I did。Initially about Suzie and trying to deal with her loss and find her direction in life which transposes into an obsession with her neighbour。。Was good to then see both sides of grief, loneliness, people trying to work out exactly where they fit in with modern day life。 I would recommend this book as it made me ask questions about myself and how I would deal with certain situations while at the same time being a ver I wasn’t really sure about this book at first but stuck with it and was glad I did。Initially about Suzie and trying to deal with her loss and find her direction in life which transposes into an obsession with her neighbour。。Was good to then see both sides of grief, loneliness, people trying to work out exactly where they fit in with modern day life。 I would recommend this book as it made me ask questions about myself and how I would deal with certain situations while at the same time being a very interesting read。 。。。more

Really enjoyed this

Iris

Not exactly a page-turner。 I find the pace quite slow with no real climaxes。

Georgina

Very slowly paced and one that I really struggled to finish, largely because of a complete lack of emotional connection to any of the characters, least of all Suzie, who was just very odd and annoying。

What an amazing read this was! I read this in under 2 days, I just could not put it down…I needed to know what happened to Emily…

The Girl Upstairs is twisty, unputdownable and has a huge jaw dropping plot twist near the end。 Such a well written book that keeps you engrossed。 Well worth adding to your to read list。

I needed to understand Suzie as she was my narrator, my guide in this mystery!Delving into Emily’s life both through flashbacks and as Suzie played amateur detective showed a different side to this seemingly selfish neighbour。 At times, I felt like an intruder into this young woman’s life but, like Suzie, I wanted to know what had made her disappear。The Girl Upstairs is a tense unassuming thriller that held me captive for an intense read。 I followed Suzie and Emily blindly as they led me through their complex emotional lives to one surprising climax! Lees’ debut is a brilliant read and I look forward to reading After The Party when it comes out next month! 。。。more

Your noisy neighbour upstairs is annoying you to no end。。。 until the noise stops。 I read this slow burn thriller in one sitting。 The dual POV is interesting, and the premise is good, but it does fall a bit flat。 The end's twist isn't really a twist (I saw it coming from miles away), and Suzie's motivation to investigate her neighbour's disappearance is weak (if not nonsensical - she hates her, why would she care she's now gone?), her obsession is unexplained。 But I liked it anyway! 7/10 Your noisy neighbour upstairs is annoying you to no end。。。 until the noise stops。 I read this slow burn thriller in one sitting。 The dual POV is interesting, and the premise is good, but it does fall a bit flat。 The end's twist isn't really a twist (I saw it coming from miles away), and Suzie's motivation to investigate her neighbour's disappearance is weak (if not nonsensical - she hates her, why would she care she's now gone?), her obsession is unexplained。 But I liked it anyway! 7/10 。。。more
