Summary

Mallory is delighted to have a new job looking after gorgeous four-year-old, Teddy。 She's been sober for a year and a half and she's sure her new nannying role in the affluent suburbs will help keep her on the straight and narrow。

That is until Teddy starts to draw disturbing pictures of his imaginary friend, Anya。 It is quite clear to Mallory and to Teddy's parents, even in his crude childlike style, that the woman Teddy is drawing in his pictures is dead。

Teddy's crayons are confiscated, and his paper locked away。 But the drawings somehow keep coming, telling a frightening story of a woman murdered。。。 and they're getting more sophisticated。 But if Teddy isn't drawing the pictures any more, who is? And what are they trying to tell Mallory about her new home?

Very entertaining。 Seemless writing, great story-telling。 Perfectly creepy。

4。5 stars。 This book was creepy from start to finish。 I am on the fence if it technically could have been a YA book, because parts of it read that way。 And the ending was a little pat, but I enjoyed it a lot and really, really wanted to find out what happened!

Chef’s kiss this one。 A wonderful paranormal thriller with a nice twisted ending。 I devoured this book so quick! Even while working I couldn’t wait to get back to reading it。 Very rare that I can find a book such as this that can hold my interest from page 1。 Would have liked to see more development around the dads story line but all in all, amazing read!

well, that was a book。 honestly, this book was not good and I feel like the 40 wild plot twists in the last 15% of the book are to try and distract you from how bad that book was。 I truly need men to stop writing thriller books where the main character is a woman struggling with drug/alcohol abuse who /might/ have witnessed a crime or is being haunted this is like the 7th book I've read this year where I've had to read this trope。 enough already。 well, that was a book。 honestly, this book was not good and I feel like the 40 wild plot twists in the last 15% of the book are to try and distract you from how bad that book was。 I truly need men to stop writing thriller books where the main character is a woman struggling with drug/alcohol abuse who /might/ have witnessed a crime or is being haunted this is like the 7th book I've read this year where I've had to read this trope。 enough already。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was choked up by the end because of the Mallory and Flora reunion, but also majorly disappointed as a whole。 I’m not sure why… with all of the crazy hype riding behind this book, I guess I expected, more? It kept my full attention, I couldn’t stop reading, I probably would’ve read it in one sitting if I could’ve (but with my 2 year old that’s not possible)。 Even still, I can’t shake the disappointment。I’m back to edit。 I have more to say。 Since finishing, I’ve sat here wondering why this book I was choked up by the end because of the Mallory and Flora reunion, but also majorly disappointed as a whole。 I’m not sure why… with all of the crazy hype riding behind this book, I guess I expected, more? Before changing her death heroin to baby powder and getting shot to death himself。 Yeah。 There’s a lot to unpack。 A lot did happen but I expected more。 I’ll stop talking about it now。 I need to read something good after this to lift me up, because I’m feeling down。 Time to put this book back on my shelf and be quiet。 Or maybe I’ll donate it to my nearby Little Lending Library。 👋🏼 I need a nap。 。。。more

spottyThis book is all over the place。 Starts in one sort of story and it can’t figure out what it wants to be。

Good and creepy! I think Mallory would have been much more freaked out by what was going on, but I didn't worry about it too much。 Good and creepy! I think Mallory would have been much more freaked out by what was going on, but I didn't worry about it too much。 。。。more

This book took me a while to process for a couple of days post reading, keeping in mind that the genre is definitely paranormal thriller with a touch of horror。 Personally, I’m not always a fan of the supernatural paranormal tropes, but there are some books—like this one—that I can place in my “exceptional box”, along with Layla by CoHo and The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager。 The engaging hand-drawn pictures displayed throughout the story line were very suspenseful and intriguing, which ma This book took me a while to process for a couple of days post reading, keeping in mind that the genre is definitely paranormal thriller with a touch of horror。 Personally, I’m not always a fan of the supernatural paranormal tropes, but there are some books—like this one—that I can place in my “exceptional box”, along with Layla by CoHo and The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager。 The engaging hand-drawn pictures displayed throughout the story line were very suspenseful and intriguing, which made a physical copy of the book fun over an e-reader or audio。 An angle that I enjoyed with this book that other readers might not be focused on as much is that there were numerous aspects of the main character that I really admired。 Following the POV of a young adult named Mallory—I appreciated her story of overcoming drugs and sticking to her gut feeling when she knew things “were not right”。 I respect the aspect of her run training to maintain a consistent structure of discipline towards forging a rising healthy path in her life instead of cycling downward under her circumstances。 She is great with kids and has such a promising personality。 Mostly, I was in awe of her “sense”—it was incredible to read about her truly talented ability of acknowledging the sense of someone watching her, and just the fact that she had very good judgements。 Back to the main plot, I did not see the big twist that propelled toward the end。 The last like 50 pages, my jaw was just dropped。 There was one thing that I didn’t care for at the very end that I think really dropped a star for me because it just seemed a bit unnecessary, but this book is great and memorable! 4/4。5ish for this genre⭐️ 。。。more

This is one of my favourites, if not my favourite read of 2022 to date。 The beginning starts out really strong and provides a good amount of back story to develop our main character Mallory and make us root for her。 I am a little disappointed at how perfect the author makes her given her history and that it’s the first time she has gotten clean and has minimal support。 We also learn that Mallory feels very guilty about an event in her past but the book doesn’t really convey this at all until the This is one of my favourites, if not my favourite read of 2022 to date。 The beginning starts out really strong and provides a good amount of back story to develop our main character Mallory and make us root for her。 I am a little disappointed at how perfect the author makes her given her history and that it’s the first time she has gotten clean and has minimal support。 We also learn that Mallory feels very guilty about an event in her past but the book doesn’t really convey this at all until the point it’s revealed。 I love Mallory’s relationship with Teddy and how strong the auth came out swinging with Teddy’s creepy drawings。 I do wish it had stayed as creepy as it was in the beginning but it’s not really meant to be a super scary ghost story lol。 Overall this was an original, fast paced read and I definitely recommend as long as you aren’t a reader that prefers a lot of realism as there are some wild, unbelievable twists。。but I think that makes reading fun 😊 。。。more

4。5I loved this。 Probably my favorite thriller of the year。 A great suspense story that is straightforward, but still has enough twists and different elements。 I absolutely loved the drawings that were included, they really made the atmosphere of the book palpable!

4。5 ⭐️ Side note: I just finished reading this book only moments ago。 There is a lot to thinking about。 I’m still formulating my thoughts about it, so there may or may not be an update later on。Hidden Pictures is a book that uniquely involves images of drawings that gives you an extra layer of immersion in this thriller/horror story。 The experience of this sort of storytelling in this genre is what made it so appealing for me to pick up in the first place and for the most part, it was worth the 4。5 ⭐️ Side note: I just finished reading this book only moments ago。 There is a lot to thinking about。 I’m still formulating my thoughts about it, so there may or may not be an update later on。Hidden Pictures is a book that uniquely involves images of drawings that gives you an extra layer of immersion in this thriller/horror story。 The experience of this sort of storytelling in this genre is what made it so appealing for me to pick up in the first place and for the most part, it was worth the read! I struggled whether or not to give this a 4 or 5 star。 I thoroughly enjoyed it and I found the pages were easy to turn and my mind was locked on to figure out the mystery。 There were plenty small twists with a large revealing turn towards the last 20% of the book。 This story follows Mallory Quinn, a recovering drug addict, trying to take control of her life once again, after suffering trauma in her past。 Mallory gets a job as a nanny for Teddy, a gracious and sweet 5 year old boy, who loves to draw。 Teddy is constantly sketching new pictures of scenes that grow increasingly worrisome。 Mallory starts suspecting something much more sinister is happening in the home。 This story touches upon addiction, stereotyping, racism, and many socio-cultural/political areas that are relevant to the recent years。 In fact, that’s where the last star may fall off。 I am still mauling over and trying to read into, whether or not there are any underlying message in the tone of certain parts of this book。 But when I am not seeking too deep into that, on the surface, I really enjoyed this adventure and would definitely recommend it for a spooky fun mysterious ride。 The main character development is alright but the side characters weren’t as involved。 It didn’t take away from the entertainment value for me though。 Between the atmosphere, the images, the constant mind games, and more, the story kept its claws in me and when I wasn’t reading it, I was still thinking about when I can read more! All in all, give it a go if you’re looking for a creepy immersive book…as long as, with a little effort, you can stretch your imagination in times where the storyline might get a tad bit rocky。 。。。more

I enjoyed this , exciting twists in the end 。 The beginning and middle was a bit slow , but I still found I wasn’t “ bored “ with it and would read a lot in one sitting 。 Finished this book in 4 days ( which is quick for me ! Really enjoyed Hidden Pictures! I’ll be recommending this books to everything。 I wasn’t ready for that ending, it’s surprised me in a good way。 There’s really no calling what’s going to happen, you just have to wait and see。

Ok so this book is totally worth the hype! Loved every minute of it。Hidden Pictures is a little bit horror, murder mystery and supernatural/ghost story that had me hooked from the first page to the last。 And the illustrations really added to the whole reading experience and atmosphere。 Unique and perfectly creepy, this book is definitely worth a read。 No synopsis needed, just give it a read and you won’t be disappointed 😉4。5⭐️

I really enjoyed the book。 It was an easy read and entertaining story。 I did not expect the plot twists。 Although it did all rapid fire at the end I was hooked。 I understand the negative reviews about it but I did not go into this story expecting it to be realistic and also to some cultures (where I’m from) this could very well be something we believe。

Sam

This was definitely a page turner and I didn’t want to stop because I needed to know what happened。 I wasn’t prepared for parts of it and other parts I loved instantly。 I think there was some parts it could have even done without and it would have still been a great story。 I don’t know if I would recommend it because it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it was still a really good book。

whew!! this is the best book I’ve read in some time。 so many different emotions/genres mixed in that kept me captivated the entire time。 I didn’t want to put it down which was what I’ve been craving! the start isn’t typically what I would be interested in and I was worried about the “picture” component but it all worked; and it worked so well!!

BAHHHH unputdownable!!! So good。 Genre bending, full of twists, and had me gasping over and over at the end。 10/10! (Recommend reading and not listening so you can see the drawings scattered throughout)。

An outstanding thriller that effortlessly intertwines recovery from drug addiction, loss, and trauma, with suspense and classic scared-to-turn-the-page horror。 The main character is easy to love; her commitment to growth, self-discovery, and life after addiction makes you root for her until the very last page!

Loved this book。 It's like a slow, supernatural type thriller。 I thought the pictures added a nice spooky element to the story。 I did not expect the twists that happened near the end。 I liked Mallory and I was rooting for her throughout the book。 I will for sure check out other works by this author in the future。 Loved this book。 It's like a slow, supernatural type thriller。 I thought the pictures added a nice spooky element to the story。 I did not expect the twists that happened near the end。 I liked Mallory and I was rooting for her throughout the book。 I will for sure check out other works by this author in the future。 。。。more
