Summary

For two women generations apart, going home will change their lives in this funny, poignant, and life-affirming novel about family, secrets, and broken hearts by the author of For the Love of Friends。

Four years into her marriage, Jenna is blindsided when her husband asks for a divorce。 With time on her hands and her life in flux, she agrees to accompany her eccentric grandmother Evelyn on a road trip to the seaside Massachusetts town where much of their family history was shaped。

When they hit the road, Evelyn spins the tale of the star-crossed teenage romance that captured her heart more than seventy years ago and changed the course of her life。 She insists the return to her hometown isn’t about that at all—no matter how much she talks about Tony, her unforgettable and forbidden first love。

Upon arrival, Jenna meets Tony’s attentive great-nephew Joe。 The new friendship and fresh ocean air give her the confidence and distance she needs to begin putting the pain of a broken marriage behind her。

As the secrets and truths of Evelyn’s past unfold, Jenna discovers a new side of her grandmother, and of herself, that she never knew existed—and learns that the possibilities for healing can come at the most unexpected times in a woman’s life。

Didn’t want it to endCould not love this book more。 Evelyn Bergman was a force of nature。 I want to be her granddaughter and hear more stories of her life。 I loved how the author teased of past events and then let Grandma Evelyn tell the story later in the book。 I didn’t want it to end。

I feel like I have a book hangover with this one after being immersed in it for two days。 I have to shake my head to clear it out and figure out what day it is。 That said, I thoroughly enjoyed losing myself and forgetting all the depressing and news。 But, I didn't feel as connected to Jenna and Joe as I feel I could have。 And while I wanted to find out all the family secrets, it felt like there was always one more thing。 But wait! Hands down, a top tier。 The POVs were brilliant。 Evelyn is my spit animal。 Such a witty, captivating yet informal(?) book! Loved the focus on dating in Judaism。 The writing style was effortlessly easy to read and not get confused within each POV。

1。5 ⭐️ I enjoyed Evelyn’s storyline more than Jenna’s, but overall so much of the book felt like a cliche。 The romance storylines felt so forced that I found myself constantly rolling my eyes。 Towards the end of the book, all of the times Jenna and Joe yelled “Jax!” at the dog felt like a bad sitcom。 I’m glad I finally finished this one so I never have to think about it again

2。5 stars rounded up。 Amazon prime first reads。 I almost gave up on it as I got a little bored are the beginning, but am glad I stayed with it to the end as the closure on this one is nice。

This was an Amazon First Reads book。 I like stories that move between the past & the present and where you see the characters grow。

Good Summer ReadOverall I enjoyed the book。 It dragged in places but reviewing the realities of life and the decisions we make in life made the story more believable。 The characters were interesting and showed how much social and ethnic mores affect people's decisions。The book had a good ending and it was nice to see an older generation help the younger one。 Good Summer ReadOverall I enjoyed the book。 It dragged in places but reviewing the realities of life and the decisions we make in life made the story more believable。 The characters were interesting and showed how much social and ethnic mores affect people's decisions。The book had a good ending and it was nice to see an older generation help the younger one。 。。。more

I loved this novel! This is my first novel by Sara Goodman Confino and I loved it。 It was a beautifully written story of a granddaughter, Jenna, and her grandmother, Evelyn, visiting her grandmother’s hometown。 Jenna is going through a unexpected divorce and dealing with betrayal and a lack of confidence and direction。 She is a practical woman who thinks she is looking after her 88 year old zany, unfiltered grandmother。 Jenna soon finds Evelyn is much more than she appears as her family’s history I loved this novel! This is my first novel by Sara Goodman Confino and I loved it。 It was a beautifully written story of a granddaughter, Jenna, and her grandmother, Evelyn, visiting her grandmother’s hometown。 Jenna is going through a unexpected divorce and dealing with betrayal and a lack of confidence and direction。 She is a practical woman who thinks she is looking after her 88 year old zany, unfiltered grandmother。 Jenna soon finds Evelyn is much more than she appears as her family’s history unfolds through Evelyn’s eyes。I adored the characters who were messy and authentic。 The cultural and generational struggles were poignant and real。 The multi-generational relationships were heartfelt。 I truly enjoyed taking this journey into the loves, friendships, and family dynamics of this family。 。。。more

4。5 starsThere is so much to love about this book! I enjoyed Jenna's journey as she healed from her divorce, realizing that maybe it wasn't the shock she thought it was - but that Brad was still a cad。 (Sorry, cringy rhyme!)Evelyn's free-spirited nature is exhausting, but man, wouldn't we all like to have a grandmother like that? She loves so deeply。 The only downside to this book is that it seemed very long。 While the page count is only 395, it seemed longer than that。 The first half especially 4。5 starsThere is so much to love about this book! Totally enjoyableI love Evelyn so very much。 She is one of my favorite characters I have ever read。 The book goes back and forth between time periods which was a bit confusing at first and I found myself greedy wanting to know both stories immediately, but honestly it worked out so nicely the way it was written。 I'm so happy I came across this read! It was lighthearted and fun。 Definitely had some sad points and made me angry at times as all good books do。 Totally enjoyableI love Evelyn so very much。 She is one of my favorite characters I have ever read。 The book goes back and forth between time periods which was a bit confusing at first and I found myself greedy wanting to know both stories immediately, but honestly it worked out so nicely the way it was written。 I'm so happy I came across this read! CryfestWhat an emotional roller coaster。 Pretty sure I cried for the last hundred pages。 But in a good and cathartic way。 Overall a sweet story and although there were overlapping characters from her previous book, the tone was completely different。 Thoroughly enjoyed and now I have to ice my eyelids。

I’m not sure how this book ended up on my kindle, but I’m so glad it did。 As soon as I finished this one I downloaded another by the author as I loved it so much。Evelyn is incredible, her character is so fully developed she jumps off the page and I almost felt like she was real and someone I wanted to know。 She enjoyed being awkward and contrary but still remained completely lovable。 Jenna surprised by a divorce。 Like many hadn’t noticed the slow decline and was shocked when the end came。 Grievi I’m not sure how this book ended up on my kindle, but I’m so glad it did。 As soon as I finished this one I downloaded another by the author as I loved it so much。Evelyn is incredible, her character is so fully developed she jumps off the page and I almost felt like she was real and someone I wanted to know。 She enjoyed being awkward and contrary but still remained completely lovable。 Jenna surprised by a divorce。 Like many hadn’t noticed the slow decline and was shocked when the end came。 Grieving the loss of the what could have been rather than what was whilst living at her parents house。 Avoiding people to lick her wounds in private, she felt very relatable and grounded in reality。The side characters Joe, Tony, Vivie etc all bring something different to the book and help to round it out。 The story itself is a merger of Evelyn’s past and her and Jenna’s present and the split works really well。 Jenna is frustrated as she wants to get straight to the answers rather than following the journey Evelyn took。 However it is clear that Evelyn wants Jenna to learn from her journey。 Evelyn clearly wants her granddaughter to be happy and isn’t above a bit of subterfuge to help her get there。 To say this book made me laugh is an understatement。 There were many giggle out loud moments, mainly involving Evelyn。 What I hadn’t expected was a book that had made me giggle so much would also make me cry with heartache。 This is how real the characters had become that I could feel their sadness。 For me this book was a complete hit and I’d gladly recommend it to others。 。。。more

I don't like chick lit。 I don't like romances。 But I loved everything about this book。 Told in chapters alternating between past and present, it's sweet and sassy。 Authentic characters shine。 There's nothing here to dislike。 Recommended。 I don't like chick lit。 I don't like romances。 But I loved everything about this book。 Told in chapters alternating between past and present, it's sweet and sassy。 Authentic characters shine。 There's nothing here to dislike。 Recommended。 。。。more
