Summary

The latest book, Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy, is published by Spiegel & Grau/Random House。 For the first time, the book presents Western readers with a path to achieving absolute well-being through the classical science of yoga in a practical, accessible book。 It is a means to create inner situations exactly the way you want them, turning you into the architect of your own joy。

In this transformative book Sadhguru tells the story of his own awakening, from a boy with an affinity for the natural world, to a young daredevil who crossed the Indian continent on his motorcycle。 He relates the moment of his enlightenment on a mountaintop in southern India, from which he emerged radically changed。 Today, as the founder of Isha, he lights the path for millions。 The wisdom distilled in this accessible, profound, and engaging book offers readers the opportunity to achieve nothing less than a life of joy。

I like the idea, but it was a miss for me。 Preferred the second half to the first, and enjoyed the Sadhana’s throughout。 What resonated most with me was bowing down to what you can not fathom or control (essentially giving up the need to worry) and imagining if you were alone on the planet, what would your dreams be? It’s inspirational because as a mother, wife, sister, and friend, you define your dreams within bounds。 I liked imagining my separate life without any strings or titles, where would I like the idea, but it was a miss for me。 Preferred the second half to the first, and enjoyed the Sadhana’s throughout。 What resonated most with me was bowing down to what you can not fathom or control (essentially giving up the need to worry) and imagining if you were alone on the planet, what would your dreams be? What would I do? The big piece I didn’t like was the call to how present day yoga is akin to a stillborn baby。 1) unnecessary call out 2) yoga still does things for plenty more people because of its modern take。 The criticism degraded his authority in my opinion。 TL;DR- because I didn’t enjoy it, I skimmed it looking for the nuggets and will bring two with me out of the book。 。。。more

A soft and appetizing introduction to the man who seems to channel that lovely and tragically rare quality of 20th century contemplative philosophers like Jiddu, Huxley, Jung and Watts, best termed by the latter as the irreducible rascality of man。

Really wanted to love this book but only kinda liked it。 Some parts were interesting, some parts made me laugh out loud, but a lot of it was very vague。 I felt in over my head and had a hard time concentrating for much of it。 3。5 stars。

A nightstand staple。 I will be going through this book to practice the Sadhana’s daily。 I love his honest and approachable teachings。

The world would probably be a better place if ever Christian had to read this book。 He seems a little dogmatic at times despite his opening argument that yoga is about experimentation and not dogmatic。 Still, there is much good sense and some profound insights in this book。

The world Guru makes me cringe and I despise yoga。 Nevertheless those facts did not hold me from the quick and pleasant read of Inner Engineering: A Yogi's Guide to Joy。 I can admit that I enjoyed it a lot。 I think I do not like yoga because I see it as a sequence of boring and daunting exercises。 But in this book yoga is presented as a complex approach to life and your existence in the universe。 The main goal is to connect four bodies that you possess。 The book is quite versatile and covers lot The world Guru makes me cringe and I despise yoga。 Nevertheless those facts did not hold me from the quick and pleasant read of Inner Engineering: A Yogi's Guide to Joy。 I can admit that I enjoyed it a lot。 I think I do not like yoga because I see it as a sequence of boring and daunting exercises。 But in this book yoga is presented as a complex approach to life and your existence in the universe。 The main goal is to connect four bodies that you possess。 The book is quite versatile and covers lots of different subjects, including lucid dreams, approach to water and food and occultism。 Some of them are not scientifically-based, but hey when does it stop anyone? The most valuable information for me was about Ekadashi days。 I did not know what those days were。 Now having the knowledge I would most likely include them in my lifestyle。 I recommend this book for those with limited knowledge of yoga as a fast an efficient way to have an overview of yoga philosophy。 。。。more

3 stars because the first part of the book was really lovely。 Very nice ideas which I’ve taken a lot from。 Love the idea of finding your own joy from within, looking inward and the empowerment of responsibility etc。 Loved his own personal story and the autobiographical element。 Unfortunately, the second section really didn’t vibe with me。 It started off well, discussing breathing and yoga but the rest seemed really messy to me。 Lots of unsupported ideas thrown out there, which didn’t lead to any 3 stars because the first part of the book was really lovely。 Very nice ideas which I’ve taken a lot from。 Love the idea of finding your own joy from within, looking inward and the empowerment of responsibility etc。 Loved his own personal story and the autobiographical element。 Unfortunately, the second section really didn’t vibe with me。 It started off well, discussing breathing and yoga but the rest seemed really messy to me。 Lots of unsupported ideas thrown out there, which didn’t lead to any conclusions or final points。 Which left me feeling a bit confused and frustrated。 Also I felt like the author contradicted himself at times。 I’d recommend this book to most people, but the second section has to be taken quite lightly。 Or just skip it entirely! If it was more condensed and refined, I may have made more sense of it towards the end。 Ultimately, this is one man’s philosophy and I think you should take from it what you can, which may have a positive impact on your outlook and life。 Despite what he says, not everything in this book is fact。 。。。more

This book is very helpful for your body, mind and soul, and when I say that I mean it。 It is divided into convenient sections that you can refer to in the future after reading it。 Also, it has sections titled sadhana that are numerous and are distributed throughout the book。 These sections contain practical things you could do and the rest of the chapter deals with the spiritual and mechanical aspects of the science of yoga。 If you apply all the techniques, you can undergo a transformation; if y This book is very helpful for your body, mind and soul, and when I say that I mean it。 It is divided into convenient sections that you can refer to in the future after reading it。 Also, it has sections titled sadhana that are numerous and are distributed throughout the book。 These sections contain practical things you could do and the rest of the chapter deals with the spiritual and mechanical aspects of the science of yoga。 If you apply all the techniques, you can undergo a transformation; if you don't want to become a yogi, then too you should go for it as you can eliminate all bad habits and keep your mind and body fit with the help of this book。FURTHER READING: I would recommend a book by SWAMI VIVEKANANDA, titled THE COMPLETE BOOK OF YOGA。 。。。more

I don’t like giving out 5 stars like they’re Halloween candy but this was great。 Shows the true origin and meaning behind Yoga, showing it as the spiritual practice it is as opposed to a form exercise。 A lot of good information within this book about mind, body and energy。

Some of the points were very much relevant for me。 Got to know so many things!

The key to inner happiness and joy lies within yourself。 Only you can control your experience and perception of the world, whether it is one of bliss, pain or despair。 By balancing your body and mind, seeking out spiritual places and attending to the present moment, you can find true peace。

Sadhguru's book is thought-provoking。 He has a deep understanding of the way the universe works and our role in the universe。 The book offers many experiments that a reader can do himself/herself。 He aptly called them sadhanaas。 Very enjoyable book。 Sadhguru's book is thought-provoking。 He has a deep understanding of the way the universe works and our role in the universe。 The book offers many experiments that a reader can do himself/herself。 He aptly called them sadhanaas。 Very enjoyable book。 。。。more

It is marvelous the way Sadhguru explained the important things in the book and it has a great impact on my life。。 I am not a big fan of religion but I can consider this book as my Bible & Gita。 It is a long journey but if you follow it correctly surely you will also find a way to joy。 All you need to do is to follow the guidance of the book and do Sadhana as mentioned in the book properly。

One of the best spiritual books I have read in my life。 The ultimate goal of life is joy, staying happy everytime is a hard task, learning how to live a joyful life by finding happiness within us should be the aim of every human beings in this world。  We live in a generation where everything is accessible for us except happiness。 Sadhguru says, no need to search here and there for happiness, just search it inward。 “Your joy, your misery, your love, your agony, your bliss, lies in your hands

If I were going to read only one book, this would be the one。 As to you, dear reader, maybe you should start with my book "itzyourlife。。。go living" before you go to this one。 Both books are tools to a good relaxed life。 If I were going to read only one book, this would be the one。 As to you, dear reader, maybe you should start with my book "itzyourlife。。。go living" before you go to this one。 Both books are tools to a good relaxed life。 。。。more

Sadhguru offering a manual to get the most out of life (whether you are a Yogi or not)。It's not about finding peace only, but peace and joy。 We are composed of layers。 We are aware of the physical body, the mental body and energy body。 Sadhguru dedicates a section to each to help gain alignment with those layers。 Every chapter includes a Sadhana that offers an opportunity for reflection。 Enjoyed it。 Aspirational。 And he narrates the audiobook。 Sadhguru offering a manual to get the most out of life (whether you are a Yogi or not)。It's not about finding peace only, but peace and joy。 We are composed of layers。 We are aware of the physical body, the mental body and energy body。 Sadhguru dedicates a section to each to help gain alignment with those layers。 Every chapter includes a Sadhana that offers an opportunity for reflection。 Enjoyed it。 Aspirational。 And he narrates the audiobook。 。。。more
