Summary

Call Me by Your Name is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliff-side mansion on the Italian Riviera。 Unprepared for the consequences of their attraction, at first each feigns indifference。 But during the restless summer weeks that follow, unrelenting buried currents of obsession and fear, fascination and desire, intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them。 What grows from the depths of their spirits is a romance of scarcely six weeks' duration and an experience that marks them for a lifetime。 For what the two discover on the Riviera and during a sultry evening in Rome is the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy。

The psychological maneuvers that accompany attraction have seldom been more shrewdly captured than in André Aciman's frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion。 Call Me by Your Name is clear-eyed, bare-knuckled, and ultimately unforgettable。

I'm absolutely in love with this book。 Shure, it gets (quite) weird in a few scenes but it felt real。 When I finished it I felt kind of sad and nostalgic for both a love I have never experienced and a love I once had that was so fleeting and ended abruptly, leaving both of us wanting more than we could have。 I loved the way it is written and how poetic everything seems。 I didn't fell in love with Oliver in the way we as readers do with book's love interests。 It was a different feeling。 He made m I'm absolutely in love with this book。 Shure, it gets (quite) weird in a few scenes but it felt real。 When I finished it I felt kind of sad and nostalgic for both a love I have never experienced and a love I once had that was so fleeting and ended abruptly, leaving both of us wanting more than we could have。 I loved the way it is written and how poetic everything seems。 I didn't fell in love with Oliver in the way we as readers do with book's love interests。 It was a different feeling。 He made me long for a love I have yet to meet。 As a side note, Elio is weird and kind of creepy on some scenes。 Most of the time I enjoyed the way he narrated the story, but at some points it was just odd。 。。。more

Meh。 I didn’t really understand what was happening but that’s probably because i have the reading level of a 10 year old。 If you’re a bad reader don’t read this because you won’t understand anything

I am only giving 3 ⭐ due to Aciman’s writing, which I think is absolutely superb。 I am speechless, though not in a good way。 Call me by your name has been acclaimed over the past few years, but I have never read such an uninteresting, unrealistic book。 Teenager Elio is a complete psychopath and does not seem to comprehend what love truly is, so it is quite hard to sympathize with the main character in this romance。 Not even mid book, it gets really disturbing with the peach scene, getting even h I am only giving 3 ⭐ due to Aciman’s writing, which I think is absolutely superb。 I am speechless, though not in a good way。 Call me by your name has been acclaimed over the past few years, but I have never read such an uninteresting, unrealistic book。 Teenager Elio is a complete psychopath and does not seem to comprehend what love truly is, so it is quite hard to sympathize with the main character in this romance。 Not even mid book, it gets really disturbing with the peach scene, getting even harder for the reader to cope with what is happening。 The last chapter is perhaps the best throughout the whole book, but it does not suffice to save the story。I do not understand how this book has such a high rating, and I will certainly not read the Find me sequel。 。。。more

I enjoyed the first part。 I thought it was a really accurate portrayal of your first gay romance: obsession, fantasizing, reading way too much into things, ignoring your feelings, finally putting things into words, shame, disappointment, and eventually some personal growth。But all the characters are so pretentious, and I can hardly stand it。 Lighten up a little。 And maybe say things directly for once。

I liked the writing but I don't love the book。 I think it's relatable to everyone who had ever felt infatuation and how unhealthy and toxic it can be to us but I felt like the characters were underdeveloped so I couldn't fully immerse myself with the book。 So yeah, I felt sort of detached to it because I couldn't connect with the characters with the lack of depth written about them。 I couldn't get into the plot as well as I felt like it was going nowhere like the book was just purely description I liked the writing but I don't love the book。 I think it's relatable to everyone who had ever felt infatuation and how unhealthy and toxic it can be to us but I felt like the characters were underdeveloped so I couldn't fully immerse myself with the book。 So yeah, I felt sort of detached to it because I couldn't connect with the characters with the lack of depth written about them。 I couldn't get into the plot as well as I felt like it was going nowhere like the book was just purely description of emotions so I stopped reading with 50 pages left in the book (wasn't excited to know how it ended)。Plus, the part where he fucked a peach。。。it just made me wanna finish the book ASAP and just get it over with。 Giving it 4 instead of a 3 because still a beautiful prose。 。。。more

i read this book when i was young, maybe around 12? it was one of the first gay books i ever read as a very young lesbian/gay person。 i think the book made me think of gay people in a way that isn't very realistic, even though what happened in it could very well happen in real life back then。 i still think it really helped me as a young gay person though。 i just think you shouldn't base your entire view of gay people off of this book。 there is so much more。 if you're not a gay person, just know i read this book when i was young, maybe around 12? it was one of the first gay books i ever read as a very young lesbian/gay person。 i think the book made me think of gay people in a way that isn't very realistic, even though what happened in it could very well happen in real life back then。 i still think it really helped me as a young gay person though。 i just think you shouldn't base your entire view of gay people off of this book。 there is so much more。 if you're not a gay person, just know this book is very romanticized。 i do think it is a good book。 some parts are weird but other than that i really like it。 i don't plan to ever read it again, but to leave the memory of it to my young self。 i have read it at least 3 times though, so it is a good enough book to read twice。 i would say it's a very romantic book but still very sad at that。 know that there's an age gap between the two main characters。 it's 6-7 years from what i remember。 i believe it develops the plot and isn't there just to be creepy。 but i know it's creepy regardless for some。 。。。more

The movie is good, but the book is excellent。

A story of young first love, infatuation and queer confusion, saying exactly everything about how that feels, without needing to ever say the actual words。 A beautiful read。

I think this is my first one star on this app, i cannot even finish it。 The prose is a chore, the story is thin, the atmosphere which made the film so good gets ruined by the endlessly long sentences and descriptions that add nothing at all。 I am so disappointed。 Also Ellio is just creepy。

Angsty, intimate, and honest。 A great beach read (or, in my case, cabin-in-the-mountains read)。

What do you say when you’ve read a book like this?I’m trying to get my feelings in to words and I realize that’s exactly what I want to say。 This book put feeling into words。 The description of love, passion and desire is more than I can comprehend, who gave the writer the right to write a book this heartfelt? We follow Elio’s thoughts as he falls in love and stays in love and the author describes every little detail about how it feels like and how out mind works being in this state of mind。 I d What do you say when you’ve read a book like this?I’m trying to get my feelings in to words and I realize that’s exactly what I want to say。 This book put feeling into words。 The description of love, passion and desire is more than I can comprehend, who gave the writer the right to write a book this heartfelt? this book broke me。 not as much as the movie -if we're talking about sadness- because the book, although it still is sad, it ends on a hopeful note; i really don't care what bad things people have to say about this book, it changed my and i'll be forever thankful for this beautiful story! this book broke me。 not as much as the movie -if we're talking about sadness- because the book, although it still is sad, it ends on a hopeful note; i really don't care what bad things people have to say about this book, it changed my and i'll be forever thankful for this beautiful story! 。。。more

Made me nostalgic for my summers in Italy: sunshine, bicycles, wine and fields of sunflowers, Call Me By Your Name brought it all back。 An enjoyable read。

I didn’t know if i wanted to give this book 1,2 or 3 stars。 At the beginning i liked it, then not at all。 Then i started being interested in their relationship but then was very confuse and i didn’t know if i liked the way it was written or not。 I was about to give it 2 stars at least。 The last chapter saved the book and i feel like i should read it again in a couple years with fresh eyes。 I think the movie was 1000% better。

The way the writer writes in this book made me struggle to read it。 I felt it could of been done differently, but I am not a writer。 The book offers more story and a continuation of that fateful summer encounter。 Overall I was content in the end。

(tried) reclaiming this after Armie Hammer had to ruin it for all of us。 The movie is all of the best quotes and dynamics from this book but the magic of the film is in the unsaid。 Knowing Elio’s inner thoughts lessened my empathy/projections onto him (i。e。 fireplace scene lmao)。 Never have I been more disappointed in a book than a movie but to be fair I adored cmbyn so the bar was very high damn it Armie WHY

What a stunning book。 André Aciman has such a way with words。 There was a very vivid ambiance to this book that makes me wish I was in Italy along with Elio。 I skimmed some passages in the third part, but the ending was worth everything it took to get there。 Needless to say: tears。

It took me over 2 years to fully finish this book and I finally finished the last 10 pages today after not reading it for probably a year and a half。 I think it should have stopped before going into their lives 20 years down the road。 Struggled with the writing style and insanely large chunks of paragraphs :/ I’m glad I read most of this before I watched the movie though。/ebook/
