This was a book of short stories where Poirot figured out the murders。 Agatha Christie was amazing in her plotting out the crimes and their solutions。

I liked the length of these shorter stories。 They were long enough to make it difficult to guess the culprit without getting excessively bogged down with detail。 I did think that the last story (Triangle at Rhodes) felt a little unfinished compared to the others。Updated rankings: (favorite to least favorite)--The Murder of Roger Ackroyd--The Mysterious Affair at Styles--Murder on the Orient Express--Peril at End House--Murder in the Mews--A。B。C Murders--The Mystery of the Blue Train--Lord Edgwar I liked the length of these shorter stories。 They were long enough to make it difficult to guess the culprit without getting excessively bogged down with detail。 I did think that the last story (Triangle at Rhodes) felt a little unfinished compared to the others。Updated rankings: (favorite to least favorite)--The Murder of Roger Ackroyd--The Mysterious Affair at Styles--Murder on the Orient Express--Peril at End House--Murder in the Mews--A。B。C Murders--The Mystery of the Blue Train--Lord Edgware Dies--Murder in Mesopotamia--Death in the Clouds--Three Act Tragedy--Cards on the Table--The Murder on the Links--Poirot Investigates--The Big Four 。。。more

This is a collection of short stories featuring Hercule Poirot。 Unlike the earlier collections of Agatha Christie's short stories, there are only four in this book, each with multiple chapters, so they could also be considered novellas。The stories are:1) Murder in the MewsA woman is found dead in her room, with a pistol in her hand。 On first glance, it is suicide, but on closer inspection, it has to be murder, because how could she have shot herself in the left head with a pistol in her right ha This is a collection of short stories featuring Hercule Poirot。 Unlike the earlier collections of Agatha Christie's short stories, there are only four in this book, each with multiple chapters, so they could also be considered novellas。The stories are:1) Murder in the MewsA woman is found dead in her room, with a pistol in her hand。 On first glance, it is suicide, but on closer inspection, it has to be murder, because how could she have shot herself in the left head with a pistol in her right hand? (view spoiler)[The twist is that it actually was suicide because she was being blackmailed, and her friend moved the pistol from her left to her right hand to make it look like murder committed by her blackmailer。 (hide spoiler)]2) The Incredible TheftAt a house party hosted by the minister Lord Mayfield, top secret papers are stolen。 The suspect is Mrs Vanderlyn, a suspected spy whom Lord Mayfield invited to the party with the aim of catching her in action。 But where is the proof of her theft? (view spoiler)[It turns out that Lord Mayfield hid the papers in his pocket then gave them to Mrs Vanderlyn in exchange for a secret letter from his past, the revelation of which would have destroyed his career。 (hide spoiler)]3) Dead Man's MirrorThe pompous Sir Chevenix-Gore is found dead in his room, seemingly having shot himself in the head with a bullet that cracked a mirror。 But Poirot is suspicious because his position is an awkward one to have committed murder in。 (view spoiler)[It turns out that he was murdered, then placed in a position to look like suicide。 (hide spoiler)]4) Triangle at RhodesWhile in holiday in Rhodes, Poirot encounters the famous Valentine Chantry and her new husband Commander Chantry。 Another couple, Douglas and Marjorie Gold, are also on holiday, and Valentine Chantry lures Douglas Gold。 Tensions rise as the surly Commander Chantry and the dowdy Marjorie Gold get increasingly jealous。 Then Valentine Chantry dies, poisoned by a drink that was meant for Commander Chantry。 (view spoiler)[It turns out that Commander Chantry and Marjorie Gold plotted to poison Valentine and to frame Douglas Gold。 (hide spoiler)]These stories all end in clever twists, and Agatha Christie is clearly experimenting with new ideas here。 Three of them are locked room mysteries, and in the last, the death only occurs at the end, though foreseen by Poirot long before。 As always, Poirot knows all, even when he pretends not to。 。。。more

nothing special (also rather annoying though i can’t say why)

Excellent collection of four short stories。 My favorite was ‘Triangle at Rhodes’。 ‘Murder in the Mews’ is quite good。 Unfortunately, it recycles the plot from an earlier Poirot short story, so there really wasn’t much surprise reading it。The other two weren’t as memorable to me, but they still are enjoyable reads。

It's Agatha, the queen of murder mysteries! This one, as well, a collection of novellas worth reading:) It's Agatha, the queen of murder mysteries! This one, as well, a collection of novellas worth reading:) 。。。more

Two of the stories were great, the others just okay though I would have enjoyed one more if I didn’t realize that she had expanded on the setup in a later novel I’d already read and thus guessed the plot immediately。 The culprit in the titular story pulled off a brilliant misdirection。

A nice quick read。 It wasn't bad, just wasn't as engaging as her other works I've read。 A nice quick read。 It wasn't bad, just wasn't as engaging as her other works I've read。 。。。more

Personalmente considero que son de los relatos más flojos de la autora, pero no dejan de ser entretenidos。

This was so good 😊

Agatha Christie rocks in both novel length and short story length books !!!

Another great one by the Queen of mystery。Love it!As usual, Hercule Poirot is on the case。 I can not get enough of the Belgian sleuth。If only books and movies today were as well written。 MUST READ!

This wasn’t bad for a short story。 I liked the plot and the mystery elements。 It was a quick read。 It got straight into the story and we quickly discovered the ending but it didn’t feel rushed。 The characters were kept to a few, of which we found out just enough about them that kept them likeable。 I’ll definitely read more shorts from Agatha Christie。

I enjoyed these 4 novellas, in a lot of ways the pacing in Christie’s novellas is a lot better than the full length Poirot books。

Very good short stories at Christie level of expertise。

3。5 stars。 In trying to read through all the Poorly stories in order, I was disappointed to see that these stories shared plots with other Christie stories, but as written here, they were well done。 I listened to the audio book with Nigel Hawthorne, and the reading was also done very well--I'm in awe of voice actors who can give multiple characters distinct voices and get meaningful nuance in at the same time。 3。5 stars。 In trying to read through all the Poorly stories in order, I was disappointed to see that these stories shared plots with other Christie stories, but as written here, they were well done。 I listened to the audio book with Nigel Hawthorne, and the reading was also done very well--I'm in awe of voice actors who can give multiple characters distinct voices and get meaningful nuance in at the same time。 。。。more
