While I love the style and the art is gorgeous。。。and I understand that the book is short and sweet because it's for littles, some of the details are slightly incorrect but whatever, I enjoyed it。 :) While I love the style and the art is gorgeous。。。and I understand that the book is short and sweet because it's for littles, some of the details are slightly incorrect but whatever, I enjoyed it。 :) 。。。more

Wanted to read this before giving it to my neice; too many books these days still sell girls short。 Thankfully, this one did a lovely job of celebrating Frida Kahlo's art and spirit!

I literally gasped when I saw this book so I suppose right away this review may be interpreted as biased。 I adored Little Golden Books as a child and a woman artist being the subject delighted me to no end。 I had to buy it and read it。I didn't expect much, so the gloriously bright illustrations by Elisa Chavarri and the simple and illuminating prose of Silvia Lopez helped me step into a world of artist Frida Kahlo in ways I hadn't until now。 I have been thinking how many love the icon of Frida a I literally gasped when I saw this book so I suppose right away this review may be interpreted as biased。 I adored Little Golden Books as a child and a woman artist being the subject delighted me to no end。 I had to buy it and read it。I didn't expect much, so the gloriously bright illustrations by Elisa Chavarri and the simple and illuminating prose of Silvia Lopez helped me step into a world of artist Frida Kahlo in ways I hadn't until now。 I have been thinking how many love the icon of Frida and this book will help little girls and boys and others to know more of her - to whet their appetite to know more about her life and her art。The stories about her childhood (bringing a donkey into her very male dominated high school, for example, encouragement from her father and Frida's perseverance despite challenges are all good for children to know。 I wish there were more other females represented in the story, though。 That would be my only critique but if a mother/father/nana whomever is reading the book, that could be made into a conversation point as well。 In a brief google search I found photographer Dorothea Lange was one of her close friends。 This friendship would have been one to illustrate inspiring women in Frida's life。 Other than that。 I recommend this book highly。 Although I don't have grandchildren yet, this book is my first Little Golden Book for my Granny collection。 :-) 。。。more

The illustrations are bold and bright just like her art。 The story follows her life and career in broad strokes so it's a good intro into who she was as an artist。 The illustrations are bold and bright just like her art。 The story follows her life and career in broad strokes so it's a good intro into who she was as an artist。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I know I shouldn’t expect much from a Little Golden Book, but I did。 My favorite page was the last page because it highlights Casa Azul, now a museum of Frida, and still full of life。

I am in awe of this Little Golden Book。 I have been surrounded by LGB's my entire life。 The new releases are simply amazing。 Many of them are every bit as good as the classic and highly esteemed LGB authors and illustrators。 The text for My Little Golden Book About Frida Kahlo is easy to understand and interesting。 The illustrations are just marvelous。 Bold, bright colors that will engage a child instantly。 I highly recommend this title。 I am in awe of this Little Golden Book。 I have been surrounded by LGB's my entire life。 The new releases are simply amazing。 Many of them are every bit as good as the classic and highly esteemed LGB authors and illustrators。 The text for My Little Golden Book About Frida Kahlo is easy to understand and interesting。 The illustrations are just marvelous。 Bold, bright colors that will engage a child instantly。 I highly recommend this title。 。。。more
