Summary

From the time she was born, Sigrid has only ever been ordinary。 Being paired at birth with a plain horse―instead of the powerful winged mare of a valkyrie―meant there would be no warrior path for her。 No riding the skies, no glory among the nine worlds。 Just the simple, unremarkable life of a stable hand。

Everything changes when a terrible enemy ambushes Vanaheim and Sigrid sees a vision of herself atop a mythical stallion, leading the valkyries into a harrowing battle。 Finally, she can grab her future with her own two hands and become the hero of her own story…if she dares。

But her destiny is tied up with Mariam, a fallen valkyrie who’s allied herself with the very enemy Sigrid is trying to stop。

Now Sigrid has left ordinary behind as she begins a journey with the beautiful―if treacherous―valkyrie, each step bringing her closer to answers…and to awakened feelings for Mariam。

Only, the life Sigrid has escaped may have been paradise compared to the one she’s racing toward。 Because her destination is the realm of the dead: the gates of Hel。

Initial ThoughtsI enjoyed this one! I was hooked by this story pretty early on and was eager to see how Sigrid and the rest of the crew would reach their destiny。 I loved how much of the story focused on the various horses and how distinct each of those characters were。 There was plenty of excitement and more than a few surprises to keep this one very interesting。ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley。 Full review to be posted soon。

I'm sad to say I'm DNFing this at 43% I loved the premise for this book but the execution wasn't quite what I expected。 The story starts off fairly solid but it's quite slow and the "love" for the love interest just seems to come out of nowhere and honestly didn't fit right which might be because of how fast the feelings started。 I'm sad to say I'm DNFing this at 43% I loved the premise for this book but the execution wasn't quite what I expected。 The story starts off fairly solid but it's quite slow and the "love" for the love interest just seems to come out of nowhere and honestly didn't fit right which might be because of how fast the feelings started。 。。。more

I'm a lifelong horseback rider, a fan of historical fiction/myth retellings, and enjoy books set in viking times, so I was very excited to request this book!First of all, I thought that the horses were very fleshed out in this book。 I could tell that the author put a lot of care in describing parts of horse care that we don't usually see in books (like wrapping legs, diet, differences in horse temperament that was actually realistic, and flying vs。 riding)。 I wasn't a huge fan of Sigrid at the beginning but she grew on me as the book went on。 I really liked her relationship with her horse and her relationship with Mariam and am interested to see how sequels will continue their story!I thought that the world was a little weird。 Maybe it was the mix of modern language with a historical fiction/fantasy setting, but it was weird to me that a character who lives with actual valkyries didn't know anything about Norse mythology。 It's explained in the story but it just felt a little off。 I felt like I was reading a queer YA romance/adventure that happened to be set in a world with valkyries。 This tone left me scrambling to make sense of the world and characters。 Overall, I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who is particularly interested in horses or wants a fun adventure book。 The world was a little off for me and made me not love this book as much as I wanted, but I had fun reading it。 2。95 stars rounded up to 3 from me。 Thank you to Entangled Publishing, LLC and NetGalley for the electronic advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review! 。。。more

I enjoyed this book very much。 I had a recommendation notice from someone and pre-ordered it on Amazon and was glad I did。Sigrid is a stable hand and cares for a team of winged mares belonging to a team of junior Valkaries, despite her lowly birth it is her long held dream to become a Valkarie much to the amusement of the team who look down on her and belittle her at any given time。 She has her own horse who she is bonded to in a special way, he is one of the fastest horses ever but unfortunatel I enjoyed this book very much。 I had a recommendation notice from someone and pre-ordered it on Amazon and was glad I did。Sigrid is a stable hand and cares for a team of winged mares belonging to a team of junior Valkaries, despite her lowly birth it is her long held dream to become a Valkarie much to the amusement of the team who look down on her and belittle her at any given time。 She has her own horse who she is bonded to in a special way, he is one of the fastest horses ever but unfortunately not a winged Valkarie mare。 She was found in the Valkarie nursery with the horse when she was a new born and no one know how she got there or who her parents are。During a raid on the royal family by a set of dark elves and an enemy Valkarie, Mariam, she is drawn to the fight and accidentally kills Mariam's mare。 This causes a Valkarie soul to slowly die unless she can be re-united with her mare。There is only one way to get back a stone that was stolen from the seer, the mare and maybe find our her heritage but it is dangerous and she has to rely on a former dark elf and the enemy Valkarie to get her there。 During the journey she and Mariam discover there is more than friendship between them and they find love。There is much much more going on and it really is a page turner of a book。 。。。more

A Tale to Rival Thor and His HammerThe Valkyrie's Daughter was a fast read for me despite being a page short of 400。 I was constantly left wanting to know what happened next, where Sigrid's story would take her, and most importantly, when would the cute romantic scenes occur。 Now that I've finished the first book, I'm left with the same feeling that sent me flying through the pages at breakneck speed。I want more Sigrid and the awesome world that Tiana crafted based on Norse mythology。 I found my A Tale to Rival Thor and His HammerThe Valkyrie's Daughter was a fast read for me despite being a page short of 400。 I was constantly left wanting to know what happened next, where Sigrid's story would take her, and most importantly, when would the cute romantic scenes occur。 Now that I've finished the first book, I'm left with the same feeling that sent me flying through the pages at breakneck speed。I want more Sigrid and the awesome world that Tiana crafted based on Norse mythology。 I found myself not only reading a great story but also learning about Yggdrasil and the entire mythos surrounding it。 I think an illustration of the tree and the paths connecting the worlds would have been a worthwhile decision because there were some Game of Thrones moments where the mention of a person/place confused me briefly because of how expansive the mythology is。 However, I digress on something so obscure as it didn't take away from the story as a whole。Like with Tiana's other stories, the Valkyrie's Daughter is another phenomenal entry。 My only complaint was the rate at which the story progressed as it seemed extremely speedy。 I love stories that include a long, drawn out, slow burn sort of plot。 This story felt like it started and finished in the span of a week or so, but I guess making the plot progress at a slower pace would have added and 100-200 pages。。。 which I would have been totally okay with。Either way, regardless of the plot progression and brief confusion about Norse mythology, I would say that this story and series as a whole will make for a great read。 。。。more

The Valkyrie’s Daughter is a beautiful sapphic YA fantasy that is immersed in the rich world of Nordic mythology and culture。 I finished this book in a single night, and I came out adoring every single page and character。 It follows Sigrid, a teenage orphaned girl living in the world of Vanaheim as a stable hand。 She is the only girl born without a pegasus partner and thus the only non-Valkyrie in her age and gender group。 She then embarks on a journey after a catastrophe in order to follow a pr The Valkyrie’s Daughter is a beautiful sapphic YA fantasy that is immersed in the rich world of Nordic mythology and culture。 I finished this book in a single night, and I came out adoring every single page and character。 It follows Sigrid, a teenage orphaned girl living in the world of Vanaheim as a stable hand。 She is the only girl born without a pegasus partner and thus the only non-Valkyrie in her age and gender group。 She then embarks on a journey after a catastrophe in order to follow a prophecy and discover who she really is and what her destiny will be。 Along for this journey, is Mariam, a Valkyrie from the opposing side whom Sigrid is inexplicably drawn to (and immensely attracted to)。One of the reasons I loved this book is the same reason that I love YA, and it’s one of the reasons I talk about less often。 In Sigrid, I saw my younger self, a girl unsure of her identity and who I was, as well as someone constantly seeking validation and a place in the greater world around me。 Watching her discover who she was, who she loved, and the person she wanted to be without the influence of others was an incredibly relatable and engaging story for me to read。 The relationship that Sigrid and Mariam held was also so wonderful to read about。 They were so good in different ways for eachother, the way Sigrid softened Mariam and the way that Mariam pushed Sigrid to become her own person and to realize more than just the flaws within her own life。I also highly recommend this boom to anyone who grew up with Percy Jackson, as this feels like just the step above it as a YA fantasy based in another extraordinarily rich mythology (and this time with sapphics!)~Thank you to @pridebooktours, @entangledteen, and @tianawarner for providing me with a copy of this book and for including me on this tour! 。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for an advanced copy of the Valkyrie's Daughter in exchange for an honest review。This was a fun read, especially if you have a love for Norse mythology/mythology in general。 This was like a grown up version of a Rick Riordan book with all the adventure, banter, and wit that he includes in his books but for a YA audience。 The Valkyrie's Daughter was an epic journey across the 9 realms as well as a journey of self discovery for our MC, Sigrid。 A Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for an advanced copy of the Valkyrie's Daughter in exchange for an honest review。This was a fun read, especially if you have a love for Norse mythology/mythology in general。 This was like a grown up version of a Rick Riordan book with all the adventure, banter, and wit that he includes in his books but for a YA audience。 The Valkyrie's Daughter was an epic journey across the 9 realms as well as a journey of self discovery for our MC, Sigrid。 Add in a dash of found family and a little bit of romance sprinkled in as well。 I look forward to the next book in the series (I need more Fritz in my life) to see what adventure awaits our heroe's next! 。。。more

4 solid stars! Tiana Warner's newest work is hard to put down。 Following Sigrid, a stable girl living amongst the Valkyries, as she seeks out her destiny and makes friends, falls in love, realizes how strong she is, and finds out that sometimes what we want is not what we are meant to do was such a wonderful journey, and I cannot wait for more。 I laughed, I cried, I got angry, and I rooted for the underdog heroine and her friends to find their way to each other and to find their inner strength。 4 solid stars! Warner takes some liberties with traditional Norse mythology, but it is worth it。 The world building is done well。 The supporting characters are full of life and add a lot to the story。 The enemies to lovers, the normative sapphic romance, the surprise parent, all the tropes--worth it to follow Sigrid's story。 I think lovers of fantasy, strong female characters, or simply good story telling will enjoy this work。Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the dARC of this work in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

Book Summery: For as long as Sigrid could remember, she’s wanted to become a mighty, fearless valkyrie。 But without a winged mare, she’s a mere stable hand, left wondering who her parents were and why she’s so different。 So when the Eye shows her a vision where she's leading a valkyrie charge on the legendary eight-legged horse Sleipnir, she grabs the possibility of this greater destiny with both hands, refusing to let go。Too bad that the only one who can help her get there is Mariam, an enemy Book Summery: For as long as Sigrid could remember, she’s wanted to become a mighty, fearless valkyrie。 But without a winged mare, she’s a mere stable hand, left wondering who her parents were and why she’s so different。 So when the Eye shows her a vision where she's leading a valkyrie charge on the legendary eight-legged horse Sleipnir, she grabs the possibility of this greater destiny with both hands, refusing to let go。Too bad that the only one who can help her get there is Mariam, an enemy valkyrie who begrudgingly agrees to lead her to Helheim but who certainly can’t be trusted―even if she does make Sigrid more than a little flustered。 As they cross the nine worlds, battling night elves, riding sea serpents, and hurtling into fire to learn the truth about Sigrid’s birthright, an unexpected but powerful bond forms。As her feelings for Mariam deepen into something fiery and undeniable, Fate has other plans for Sigrid。 What happens when the one thing you think you were meant to do might end the nine worlds? My Thoughts on The Valkyrie's daughter。 So first off the blurb sounded amazing and that's why I wanted to pick this book。 I love norse mythology so I felt this would be right up my alley。 Plus LGBTQ! The Story was very interesting a little slow, and a twist that I didn't see coming。 My only issue with with the book was that it was loosely based on Norse Mythology。 I wanted to see or hear more about the gods and the world。 The adventure itself was good, I love the tension with the two main love interests。 All in all I give this book 3。5 out of 5 Stars。 Like I said I would have loved to have a little more norse mythology。 it was just a bit of lackluster。 。。。more

That he’s changed genders and species many times and gave birth more than once? There’s a line in the book where our MC is reading about Loki giving birth and it reads as a scoff of disbelief。 That’s the only instance of slight homophobia in the book, everyone in the book was really open minded and it didn’t even come into question about our MC and her LI’s romance, but I really wish that one line was re-written to be better and that the issue of her not knowing some of her own Norse mythology was better explained as well。Verdict: It’s great! I loved it。 。。。more
