Summary

The chilling tale of the undead in a galaxy far, far away。

“This is the Star Wars of every horror fan’s dreams—gory, funny, and brimming with a blood-spattered cast of swashbucklers and space-zombies。”—Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, Rebels, scoundrels, and thieves—breaks down in a distant part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting and seemingly abandoned。 But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine。

And death is only the beginning。

The Purge’s half-dozen survivors will do whatever it takes to stay alive。 But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer。 For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry。

Fantastic! Absolutely thrilling and too good to stop listening。 An amazing thriller/horror style story in the Star Wars universe。 Any Star Wars fan should read (or listen)!!

So when my 17-year old son told me there was a zombie chapter to the Star Wars saga, I had to dive on it。 I knew it wasn’t going to be exactly like the usual apocalyptic quandary, giving me something to salivate for。 So I got the book and dove right in。Honestly, I can say I’m pretty happy with the stale- especially having two of my favorite characters (one being a crush since childhood) made an appearance。 Totally was not expecting them, and so they added that bit of gravy to my meat and potatoe So when my 17-year old son told me there was a zombie chapter to the Star Wars saga, I had to dive on it。 I knew it wasn’t going to be exactly like the usual apocalyptic quandary, giving me something to salivate for。 So I got the book and dove right in。Honestly, I can say I’m pretty happy with the stale- especially having two of my favorite characters (one being a crush since childhood) made an appearance。 Totally was not expecting them, and so they added that bit of gravy to my meat and potatoes。 Death Troopers, part of the Legends series, by Jon Schreiber, tells of inmates trapped aboard the Purge, a prison barge。 There are a handful of characters to focus on, but the story itself is so juicy with action and jabs even at Lord Vader… being ‘tall’ and ‘cold’。 The thing is, the story, standalone, is amazing and a breath of fresh air to my Star Wars library。 It’s my first Legends book, but I can say that I am ready to grab a couple more now。 This was fantastic。I think Maul: Lockdown is next for me。 I like this guy’s style。 。。。more

Me gustaron los personajes, pero han y chewie son un poco innecesarios, en ocasiones la narración era un poco too much pero aun así me gusto mucho。

We ( I ) need more horror in Star Wars。 This was so much fun to read and a couple fan favorites make an appearance too。。。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Amazing concept, mediocre execution。 Flat characters with little to no arc and a sudden ending that felt quite cheap。 Having han and chewie show up felt like lazy writing I would of benefited from more organic and original characters。 It’s a shame because the story elements are so interesting needed a little bit more character development and more plot, slow start but the second half of the book felt rushed。

A very interesting Star Wars novel, that gives off a feel that we’ve never fully seen in the franchise。 Horror elements mixed with some interesting lore, makes this book a must read。 Especially since this is canon, and where the “death trooper” legion got their name from。

2。5。 This started out great but some legacy characters are introduced about 1/2 way through the book and it really takes away from the others that the author spent a lot of time developing 。

The story definitely succeeded in making it seem right that Zombies exist in the Star Wars universe - which was a concern of mine going in。 However, this achievement meant the book wasn’t a particularly compelling Zombie story, they weren’t very frightening and the plot was rather predictable。 There was also way too many plot conveniences and unlike the canon books, language and terminology that is too our-world and not Star-Warsy enough。 That being said, the characters were all compelling and r The story definitely succeeded in making it seem right that Zombies exist in the Star Wars universe - which was a concern of mine going in。 However, this achievement meant the book wasn’t a particularly compelling Zombie story, they weren’t very frightening and the plot was rather predictable。 There was also way too many plot conveniences and unlike the canon books, language and terminology that is too our-world and not Star-Warsy enough。 That being said, the characters were all compelling and received satisfying arcs。 。。。more

Possibly the best Star wars book I've read to date。I picked this book up on impulse because it sounded unique。 A zombie thriller set in the Star wars universe。 It is self-contained and creepy。 I always prefer the Star wars stories that are self-contained and set before the original series。 I do not like the way the characters from the original cast are written post return of the Jedi。 And the stories tend to get overcomplicated。The prison barge,"Purge" is stranded in space。 The crew boards an ab Possibly the best Star wars book I've read to date。I picked this book up on impulse because it sounded unique。 A zombie thriller set in the Star wars universe。 It is self-contained and creepy。 I always prefer the Star wars stories that are self-contained and set before the original series。 I do not like the way the characters from the original cast are written post return of the Jedi。 And the stories tend to get overcomplicated。The prison barge,"Purge" is stranded in space。 The crew boards an abandoned Star destroyer to salvage parts。 When they come back on board the prison barge a virus begins to spread, killing all but a small handful of the crew。 However, the dead eventually rise to hunt the living。 。。。more

I really enjoyed the horror genre intersecting with Star Wars! This story has some great and competent characters and really good first 2 acts。 Unfortunately the ending felt rushed and too neat to leave a lasting fear in the reader。 However this story and the prequel Red Harvest are mostly detached from the rest of the Star Wars canon making them approachable for people that may not really like Star Wars

I'd recommend this book to anyone that listened。 The book is small, small print。 If you find it difficult to read small print then keep this in mind and maybe go down the kindle route。 It took me just shy of 5 days to complete it, I'm a very slow reader。 。。。more

Not bad。 Story was engaging and pretty dark。 I honestly wasn't sure if any of the protagonists were actually gonna survive。 A nice quick read that doesn't require you to think too much, or at all really。 Not bad。 Story was engaging and pretty dark。 I honestly wasn't sure if any of the protagonists were actually gonna survive。 A nice quick read that doesn't require you to think too much, or at all really。 。。。more

I adore Star Wars and I’m more interested in the weird odds ands ends of the legends universe than most folks。 This was a really fun mashup up the zombie outbreak genre with the established Star Wars stuff。 I was loving this book but felt like the inclusion of two characters from the films limited the true horror of where the stories could have gone。 Despite this missed opportunity this is still firmly an above average Star Wars: Legends outing。

Matt Potter

This was a fun read that was definitely on the short side。 Could’ve done with some more character development, and a slower descent into the zombie madness。 But it was great to read a Star Wars book with a unique idea, and what’s not to like about zombie storm troopers?

Mackenzie

Although it was a slow beginning, when it takes off, it does not let up。 The chilling horror and grotesque imagery this story portrays is absolutely terrifying。。。such a page-turner。 Highly recommend

3。5 stars。 I like the concept of a Star Wars horror story, I would’ve liked it even more if it was scarier。

Star Wars meets Dead Space。 A seriously cool concept for the Star Wars universe。 Not something you will EVER see nowadays with the Disney era。 Telling from the cover, this is absolutely a horror inspired story。 With my love for horror and my love for Star Wars, I enjoyed it thoroughly。 Some moments were lost on me, and there were a few small plot holes, but overall a great read that I had trouble putting down。 Reading some of the other reviews, it’s as though even after reading the synopsis and Star Wars meets Dead Space。 A seriously cool concept for the Star Wars universe。 Not something you will EVER see nowadays with the Disney era。 Telling from the cover, this is absolutely a horror inspired story。 With my love for horror and my love for Star Wars, I enjoyed it thoroughly。 Some moments were lost on me, and there were a few small plot holes, but overall a great read that I had trouble putting down。 Reading some of the other reviews, it’s as though even after reading the synopsis and viewing the cover, some readers did not understand what they were getting themselves into。 I’m this case, you can absolutely judge this book by its cover。 There are some tense, and spooky moments。 I think this is a Star Wars that we still deserve to see。 。。。more
