Summary

Ignorance is bliss except in self-awareness。。。

What you don't know about yourself can hurt you and your relationships―and even keep you in the shallows with God。 Do you want help figuring out who you are and why you're stuck in the same ruts? The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system with an uncanny accuracy in describing how human beings are wired, both positively and negatively。

In The Road Back to You Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile forge a unique approach―a practical, comprehensive way of accessing Enneagram wisdom and exploring its connections with Christian spirituality for a deeper knowledge of ourselves, compassion for others, and love for God。 Witty and filled with stories, this book allows you to peek inside each of the nine Enneagram types, keeping you turning the pages long after you have read the chapter about your own number。 Not only will you learn more about yourself, but you will also start to see the world through other people's eyes, understanding how and why people think, feel, and act the way they do。 Beginning with changes you can start making today, the wisdom of the Enneagram can help take you further along into who you really are―leading you into places of spiritual discovery you would never have found on your own, and paving the way to the wiser, more compassionate person you want to become。

Hilarious, smart。 I had to take this revelational break from the book to process everything I had just discovered in myself。 Highly, highly recommend。

The Enneagram is an interesting tool to try to see things from the perspective of other people - something I absolutely love。 This book will stay around on my shelves as a reference。

This book is a must read for everyone。 I’m not a super religious person, but I appreciate spirituality。 I loved this book and will probably re-read portions of it the rest of my life。 I was surprised how many times i laughed out loud。 The blessing at the end made me tear up。 If I could give it more starts I would!

This was one the best books I’ve read this year! Honestly in the top 3。 I first learned about the enneagram a couple years ago, so I’ve been aware of my number for a while。 However, I felt as though I learned so much about my husband more than I learned about myself。 It was incredibly eye and heart opening。 I learned about the people closest to me on a new level。 I leaned more about myself。 I loved it。 listened to this on Libby but I loved it so much that I might buy a hard copy to keep on my sh This was one the best books I’ve read this year! I will wholeheartedly own the fact that I am on a bandwagon。 A few weeks ago I finished listening to the audiobook of THE ROAD BACK TO YOU by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile。 4。5/5 stars。 For those of you who have not yet discovered the Enneagram (an extremely intriguing personality typing system)。。。 it’s worth it。 I have to thank the wonderful Heather Mayes for being the one that finally helped me see its usefulness。 As a 1 with equal 2 and 9 wings, reading/listening about my type and other I will wholeheartedly own the fact that I am on a bandwagon。 A few weeks ago I finished listening to the audiobook of THE ROAD BACK TO YOU by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile。 4。5/5 stars。 For those of you who have not yet discovered the Enneagram (an extremely intriguing personality typing system)。。。 it’s worth it。 I have to thank the wonderful Heather Mayes for being the one that finally helped me see its usefulness。 As a 1 with equal 2 and 9 wings, reading/listening about my type and others has really helped me to recognize that the things that drive me crazy (stuff out of place, a classroom that’s not ready on open house night, having to put “Missing” in the gradebook, an unmade bed, a haphazard dishwasher, cat hair on the couch, some broken rules here and there) are not the huge problems that they seem to be in my mind。 I can take a step back and say, “This is not really that big of a deal。 It’s the 1 in me that needs to get over it。”。While the Enneagram is super cool, I learned in January that it is NOT absolute truth。 I started listening to this audiobook right around the time that we went back to school after winter break, and when I read the chapter on Ones (because I couldn’t wait for the audiobook to get to it for me to listen) I felt some pretty profound hopelessness。 “God, why would you put me in this position (a public high school teacher。。。 some of you KNOW how many flaws and corruptions we see on a daily basis) where I’m wired to be miserable?” (Hence the -0。5 stars in the review - the book is weirdly lacking in encouragement and affirmation。。。 at least in the One chapter。) And the Lord spoke back to me and said, “Zack, stop believing what that book says about you more than what I say about you。 This book is not the Bible。” I had to go on Enneagram detox for a little while after that。 Eventually though, I was able to finish the book。。Feel free to strike up a conversation with me about the Enneagram any time! Fair warning: we may be at it for hours, though。。。。#ZackReads2019 #nonfiction-ish #Enneagram #enneagram1 #audiobook 。。。more

My second Enneagram book, it is an excellent primer。

I worked my way through this book very slowly。 The Enneagram is something I have an interest in and I appreciated the deeper look into the 9 types。 I'd like to read the other book they wrote about relationships as well。 I worked my way through this book very slowly。 The Enneagram is something I have an interest in and I appreciated the deeper look into the 9 types。 I'd like to read the other book they wrote about relationships as well。 。。。more

Maybe 2。5 — it was okay。 They were constantly using similes/metaphors that were random and trying to be funny/relatable, but were rather annoying and ironically made it feel less relatable。 I like the enneagram, but I think some websites have more concise and accurate ways of describing the types。

I thought this book was really helpful and informative。 In this review, I am going to go over my type and its difference with Type 2 and talked about fictional characters and their hypothetical type。 If you have seen my other reviews on enneagram books then you would know that I consider myself a Type 1。 The list of statements about "What It's Like to Be-One" is fairly accurate in my experience。 Some of these statements I don't think are true now, if they were ever true or I just have a deep bli I thought this book was really helpful and informative。 In this review, I am going to go over my type and its difference with Type 2 and talked about fictional characters and their hypothetical type。 If you have seen my other reviews on enneagram books then you would know that I consider myself a Type 1。 The list of statements about "What It's Like to Be-One" is fairly accurate in my experience。 Some of these statements I don't think are true now, if they were ever true or I just have a deep blind spot。 I do not considered myself to be button up in terms of my emotions, but maybe to others it does seem like that。 While I think you should be able to move between the wing types, the description of a Type One with a Two Wing sounds very much like me, especially about talking too much。 The main thing that I got confused about how Type 2's are more sensitive to criticism than Type 1's。 That made no sense to me, because it was talked about on pages 98-99 that Type 1's are the hardest on themselves with their constant barrage of criticism。 This implies to me that any other sources of criticism will hit One's hard。 That is why on page 115 where Ian Morgan Cron says that Type 2's are the most sensitive to criticism than any other enneagram number。 Is it possible to have a clarification on this subject? Now comes the fun part: fictional characters and the enneagram。 So, I glanced at a book on the enneagram called the Millenneagram that came up with some new names for the different numbers。 The author called Type 5 The Detective and Type 6 The Oracle, which made me immediately think of Batman/Bruce and Barbara/Batgirl/Oracle。 Batman is called The Detective and Barbara is/was called Oracle。 This made me start trying to see if I see the Batfamily in any of the numbers and I only see two: Jason Todd and Bruce Wayne。 Jason Todd is such a Type 8 is not even funny。 The description of an unhealthy 8 was Jason Todd when he came back from the dead and had the whole vendetta against Bruce and the Bats。 Also, while not every kid who grew up on the streets will be a Type 8, in this case, that is Jason Todd's story。 At least through fanfiction, Jason consistently comes across as a Type 8。 Concerning Bruce Wayne, I know people are going to balk at what I think he is, but hear me out。 I think Bruce is a Type 6。 What?! Yes, I think Bruce/Batman is a Type 6: The Loyalist。 Read the list comments about what is like to be a Type 6 on page 188。 Bruce does plan for the worse。 He has a contingency for almost everything。 He is known to be pessimistic。 The descriptions of a healthy, average, and unhealthy 6's also apply to Bruce。 Also, Bruce leans into a counterphobic 6, which explains himself as Batman。 Verdict: I think this was an interesting read。 。。。more

This book is popular among young Christian girls in their 20s which is why I read it because all my friends were reading it。 For those interested in psychology/personalities and Christianity and how those two work together, this would be the book for you。 Though the origins of the enneagram are not based in Christianity, there are a lot of principles and ideals that are still applicable。 The authors do an excellent job of pointing that out。 To truly get something from the book one must read with This book is popular among young Christian girls in their 20s which is why I read it because all my friends were reading it。 For those interested in psychology/personalities and Christianity and how those two work together, this would be the book for you。 Though the origins of the enneagram are not based in Christianity, there are a lot of principles and ideals that are still applicable。 The authors do an excellent job of pointing that out。 To truly get something from the book one must read with an open mind and a mindset of self improvement and desire to understand others。 For Christians, my advice is don’t let this book replace the Bible。 While there is a lot of truth in it, Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Light。 Nothing can change that。 Be cautious when reading, but know there is plenty of Biblical truths in it。 。。。more

Very good。 I really liked this。 It was easy to listen to, very helpful in determining which Enneagram number fits you, and also how to help yourself grow due to the personality that you have。 I liked the way he provided quotes and stories, and found the material very useful。

Great intro to the enneagram。 I'm glad it's framed as a way to see core facets of a person and not their entire being。 He explains how self reflection can lead to self improvement and greater compassion towards others。 Over all it is about having more gracious and loving relationships by understanding our own motivations。 Great intro to the enneagram。 I'm glad it's framed as a way to see core facets of a person and not their entire being。 He explains how self reflection can lead to self improvement and greater compassion towards others。 Over all it is about having more gracious and loving relationships by understanding our own motivations。 。。。more

This book lived up to its hype! In the Enneagram world this is always one of the first recommended reads, but I’d put it off for years。 But no more! I’ll recommend this to anyone wanting to learn more about the Enneagram。

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book and how quickly I sped through it! I didn’t think I would care to dive into other enneagram numbers beside my own but I couldn’t put it down or stop thirsting for more insight into each type。 With each type I could picture people in my life so it just gave me more insight and understanding about them which will only help our relationship for the better。 I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about people as well as your I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book and how quickly I sped through it! This book was assigned reading as part of my doctoral program as part of our research on motivation and influence。 Initially skeptical about Enneagram and having already been assessed numerous ways, I was not expecting to receive much value from the Enneagram self-analysis。 I was mistaken。 I have gleaned insights from each Enneagram type。 I would not replace DISC or MBTI with Enneagram, but I would use the assessment as a supplement and this book as a guide to deepen understanding。

i initially borrowed this book from the library but i liked it so much i think i’m gonna order it from amazon so i can own it

This was my first introduction to the Enneagram。 I found the book to be very enlightening about the different types of people。 I thought it was a good introduction。 The narrator was good。 I did feel like it was a lot of information and found myself googling things so I could go back and review the different types。 While I enjoyed listening to the audio, I think I would have liked to have both the audio and the book for this one so I could go back to reference things that I wanted to re-read。

I found this book to be a really great, comprehensive overview of the Enneagram and each number/personality type。 It opened my eyes to what motivates me, my husband, my children, etc。 I think it will be a great resource and it definitely helped me look at those around me with more compassion and understanding。 I look forward to learning more and digging further into the Enneagram。

Anna O’Connor

Does it count as finishing if I only read 5 of the 9 numbers that were most relevant to me? 😬🤷🏻‍♀️ Really loved his writing style though, humorous and gentle, yet challenging。 You can tell he really wants the reader to grow, but not in a typical self-help book way。 He wants to catalyze a deeper walk with God through a greater sense of self-knowledge。 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND。

I went into this book curious, hopeful, a bit hesitant, but determined to have an open mind。 I left underwhelmed and unconvinced that the enneagram system has real validity or utility。 I’m not saying that it’s a badly written book (I’m not even giving it a rating) or that the enneagram is complete nonsense。 If people find this a helpful tool for self-discovery and personal growth… okay。 It’s just not a system of personality that I’m convinced is really measuring something valid。 That could be be I went into this book curious, hopeful, a bit hesitant, but determined to have an open mind。 I left underwhelmed and unconvinced that the enneagram system has real validity or utility。 I’m not saying that it’s a badly written book (I’m not even giving it a rating) or that the enneagram is complete nonsense。 If people find this a helpful tool for self-discovery and personal growth… okay。 It’s just not a system of personality that I’m convinced is really measuring something valid。 That could be because of the way the authors describe the types with lots of “Threes are like this…”, “They do this…”, in which case it’s bad writing and that is on them。 It’s not a parsimonious system, and any part that started to make sense did so because of its resemblance to another, more straightforward theory of personality or development that has empirical support and/or construct validity。 Perhaps if the authors had really focused on core fears (or whatever they consider to be the core of enneagram types), it would be easier to evaluate the system。 As it was, I was left with the understanding that enneagram types are not about behaviors but motivations and then given an infuriating list of observed behaviors (observed anecdotally by the authors and chosen at random? observed systematically and crucial to understanding the type? I don’t know!) that supposedly describe each number。 Some of these felt like a constellation of behaviors that could not all exist as described in one person despite each anecdote starting with “This type does…” instead of “This type may/can/sometimes…” So perhaps I still can’t decide whether I didn’t like the authors’ writing or don’t like the enneagram。 Regardless, my moderately high hopes have been disappointed。 I won’t let that ruin my enjoyment of Sleeping At Last’s album Enneagram, though 😉 。。。more
