What a great thriller！ Cyrus is an investigator and also the older brother of Elias， a schizophrenic younger brother who slaughtered his family。 Well-written， taut， and highly inventive。

I read this book as part of a Pigeonhole readalong。This book is apparently the third in a series based around a forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven and his lodger 21 year old Evie。 We learn that Cyrus had a very traumatic childhood。 His older brother Elias killed their parents and twin sisters， when Cyrus was only 9。 Elias has been locked away for 20 years since， and is now due to return to the community。 After Elias returns home， Cyrus is called in to help with the investigation of a murder and m I read this book as part of a Pigeonhole readalong。This book is apparently the third in a series based around a forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven and his lodger 21 year old Evie。 We learn that Cyrus had a very traumatic childhood。 His older brother Elias killed their parents and twin sisters， when Cyrus was only 9。 Elias has been locked away for 20 years since， and is now due to return to the community。 After Elias returns home， Cyrus is called in to help with the investigation of a murder and missing person。 A woman has been abducted， her dad murdered。 I enjoyed the suspense of the investigation and the developments that came with it， while also enjoying how we learn more about each of the characters and their relationships with each other。I've not read any of the other books in the series but I didn't feel like I missing anything from previous books， it can be read as a standalone book in my view。 But it has made me want to catch up with them now and fill in the blanks！ A great read， highly recommended。 。。。more

I like Michael Robotham books and I also enjoyed this one。 Having said that， I would say that it was my least favourite of his books。 A little predictable and the plot not so engaging though of course， still a good read。 Cyrus' brother comes out of the hospital and there was a decent about of repeat on the event some 20 years earlier。 Evie's character was fine but didn't grow at all。 The building of the plot was good when a young man is accused of sexually assaulting his neighbour and befriends I like Michael Robotham books and I also enjoyed this one。 Having said that， I would say that it was my least favourite of his books。 A little predictable and the plot not so engaging though of course， still a good read。 Cyrus' brother comes out of the hospital and there was a decent about of repeat on the event some 20 years earlier。 Evie's character was fine but didn't grow at all。 The building of the plot was good when a young man is accused of sexually assaulting his neighbour and befriends Evie when he claims he is innocent and of course， as she can gauge if someone is lying， believes him and sets out to prove his innocence only confusing the matter。 Cyrus' brother gets involved which muddies the water further。 Overall a good read but my expectations are now set so high。 。。。more

Talk about a rip-roaring read！ Hard to put down。 Keeps the tension and interest up right till the end。 Attractive characters draw your sympathy and soften the tension nicely。 Robotham knows how to write。

This is the 3rd book in this series， although I had no idea until after I had already brought it and started it 😂I don't think it made any difference at all though to the understanding of this book， and could easily be read as a standalone as I did。 There were no loose ends， and there was nothing I was confused about so it's all good！Anyway， on to the book - a very very easy 5 stars from me。From the first chapter I was drawn in， when the main character explained his history with his brother and This is the 3rd book in this series， although I had no idea until after I had already brought it and started it 😂I don't think it made any difference at all though to the understanding of this book， and could easily be read as a standalone as I did。 There were no loose ends， and there was nothing I was confused about so it's all good！Anyway， on to the book - a very very easy 5 stars from me。From the first chapter I was drawn in， when the main character explained his history with his brother and what happened when he was a child。Then it just continued to build - with several of the characters having their own background stories， so you got to know them and relate。A great read， that I would highly recommend - I have already added the previous books to this series in my basket 🙈 。。。more

Another brilliant book by Michael Robotham; I love this author！Note， whilst you could read this as a stand alone I’d highly suggest you read the first two books in this series as it gives you the background you really need to fully understand & enjoy this third instalment: Good Girl， Bad Girl & When She Was Good。This was my favourite out of all three books in the series。 I couldn’t wait to get into bed each night to read。The two main characters， Cyrus & Evie are so flawed but so brilliant。 They Another brilliant book by Michael Robotham; I love this author！Note， whilst you could read this as a stand alone I’d highly suggest you read the first two books in this series as it gives you the background you really need to fully understand & enjoy this third instalment: Good Girl， Bad Girl & When She Was Good。This was my favourite out of all three books in the series。 I couldn’t wait to get into bed each night to read。The two main characters， Cyrus & Evie are so flawed but so brilliant。 They are both so dark but so likeable。 Evie is hilarious with her one liners & thoughts & whilst the subject is always so dark she makes light of her situation。 The author captures these characters beautifully。The plot in this book like the others includes a murder/missing person investigation with the sub plots revolving around Cyrus & Evie; more so Cyrus in this book as he prepares for the release of his brother from a secure psychiatric facility。 The author explores the feelings of both Cyrus & Evie and how this will impact them moving forward。The main plot surrounding the murder & missing person was as always， with this author， brilliantly executed。 The way the story ties together towards the end is both sad but brilliant。I highly recommend reading this book/series & I sincerely hope there are more in this series as I just can’t get enough of Cyrus & Evie。 。。。more

Well， Michael Robotham certainly knows how to write a classic main character。 Cyrus Haven survived a family tragedy， one his brother was responsible for， to then rise up the ranks of the police force。 Two women go missing and as the clues come together， Cyrus’s world seemingly starts to fray。I was hooked from the first chapter and had no idea this was part of a series， Lying Beside You stands firmly on its own merit。 The characters of damaged yet brilliantly smart Cyrus， headstrong but troubled Well， Michael Robotham certainly knows how to write a classic main character。 Cyrus Haven survived a family tragedy， one his brother was responsible for， to then rise up the ranks of the police force。 Two women go missing and as the clues come together， Cyrus’s world seemingly starts to fray。I was hooked from the first chapter and had no idea this was part of a series， Lying Beside You stands firmly on its own merit。 The characters of damaged yet brilliantly smart Cyrus， headstrong but troubled Evie and dark and tortured Elias underpin a cast of characters in this fine thriller suspense that had me gripped right up until the end。If I had one tiny gripe it would be that it was a tad too long。 I think 50 pages shorter would have made the race to the end punchier。 Or， maybe， I was skipping pages in the last third of the book to just to find out what happened！I will definitely be reading more in the Evie and Cyrus series。 。。。more

Brillant。 Though， disappointed because there is more Evie than Cyrus in this novel。The constant bitching and fucking up of Evie is not what I want to read。 I am fascinated by Cyrus。 I want to hear his thoughts， his feelings， his thinking， his doing。
