Summary

Bestselling authors Margaret Stohl and Melissa de la Cruz bring us a romantic retelling of Little Women starring Jo March and her best friend, the boy next door, Theodore "Laurie" Laurence。

1869, Concord, Massachusetts: After the publication of her first novel, Jo March is shocked to discover her book of scribbles has become a bestseller, and her publisher and fans demand a sequel。 While pressured into coming up with a story, she goes to New York with her dear friend Laurie for a week of inspiration—museums, operas, and even a once-in-a-lifetime reading by Charles Dickens himself!

But Laurie has romance on his mind, and despite her growing feelings, Jo's desire to remain independent leads her to turn down his heartfelt marriage proposal and sends the poor boy off to college heartbroken。 When Laurie returns to Concord with a sophisticated new girlfriend, will Jo finally communicate her true heart's desire or lose the love of her life forever?

Let me just preface this review by saying that I did not like her Black Widow series at all (I believe that she portrayed Natasha out of character), so I am a little bit wary about reading this book, but as a long-time Jo and Laurie shipper (both platonic and romantic), I must say that this book did pique my curiosity。 ;)

Like most people, I would hazard to guess, part of me always wanted Jo to end up with Laurie。 So I was thrilled when I heard about this book。 And while I enjoyed the meta aspect, leaning into the Louisa May Alcott if it all, part of me was expecting the adaptation to be modernized。

DNF at 37 pagesI didn’t really enjoy Little Women, so much so that I don’t remember some details and I won’t read it again for the sake of this book。 I just wasn’t understanding most of the references making this book too confusing for me。

Even though I have been fine with the original ending of Little Women, I have to say that when I finished this book, I felt so satisfied and something inside me was saying 'that's how the story should have ended all along!' I felt that this Jo and this Laurie were very similar to the way they are portrayed in the Little Women movies and I felt that this could even be done as an alternate ending to a Little Women movie, for those of us who may wish for that! (I also want to say that I am fine with the original ending of Little Women in respect to the author's wishes and abilities: I am just enjoying an alternate ending that honestly gives my heart more satisfaction!) 。。。more

I’m so in love with little Women, that I can’t my stop rewatching the movies。 However, I’d always get soo sad when Jo wouldn’t end up married to Laurie, so this book was the perfect ending for my heart haha。 I never read little women (but I plan to), but this book, despite being a retelling, contained a lot of scenes from the original story and kept mostly all the characters with their ending, besides Jo and Laurie of course。 I don’t have enough words to describe how cute this book is, and how J I’m so in love with little Women, that I can’t my stop rewatching the movies。 However, I’d always get soo sad when Jo wouldn’t end up married to Laurie, so this book was the perfect ending for my heart haha。 I never read little women (but I plan to), but this book, despite being a retelling, contained a lot of scenes from the original story and kept mostly all the characters with their ending, besides Jo and Laurie of course。 I don’t have enough words to describe how cute this book is, and how Jo and Laurie are really meant to be。 I simply LOVE IT !“My dear Teddy, don’t you see ? If you were a fan of Little Women, this is a beautiful fan service retelling。 Margaret and Melissa do an excellent job intermixing the characters of the original books and parts of Louisa May Alcott's life。 If you cheer for Jo and Laurie this is the book for you。 If you were a fan of Little Women, this is a beautiful fan service retelling。 Margaret and Melissa do an excellent job intermixing the characters of the original books and parts of Louisa May Alcott's life。 If you cheer for Jo and Laurie this is the book for you。 。。。more

This was a great book! I've always wanted this couple to be together, and the authors blended Jo's story with the story of the author(ess) of Little Women really well。 My only complaint is that the ending was a little too sudden- I would have appreciated a little more build-up and maybe an epilogue? This is a beautifully written retelling and it perfectly depicts the ideal of Laurie and Jo finally being together, and Jo accepting her true feelings for him。 I cried, and laughed, and couldn’t put it down。 I finished in two days, and I wish it was never over。 READ ITTTT, if you want :)

Basically Little Women fanfiction, but I loved nearly every second of it。 I always thought that Jo and Laurie made sense together, so this book was very much for me。 I also felt like there was finally justice for Meg’s character。 Overall, this book expanded on everything I loved about Little Women, while skimming over everything I don’t。 Five stars!

I love Little Women with my whole heart, and when I saw this version that had Jo and Laurie get together I was really excited, as there was always a part of me that wanted that to happen even though the professor she marries is really lovely。I did really enjoy this book, however, there was a lot of parts where I was sure that Jo and Laurie would not end up together and that Meg and Mr Brooke would not get married as well and that was quite sad because I was so happy for Meg when her and Mr Brook I love Little Women with my whole heart, and when I saw this version that had Jo and Laurie get together I was really excited, as there was always a part of me that wanted that to happen even though the professor she marries is really lovely。I did really enjoy this book, however, there was a lot of parts where I was sure that Jo and Laurie would not end up together and that Meg and Mr Brooke would not get married as well and that was quite sad because I was so happy for Meg when her and Mr Brooke finally got together in the original。 I really appreciate the historical context that the authors have used as well as aspects of Louise Mary Alcotts own life, as she was very much intertwined in her characters and it was nice to have that prominent in this version as well。 I also think that the authors did a fantastic job of writing in her style and staying true to her story while still having creative liberty and making a new story。 Overall, I would defiantly recommend reading this if you have read Little Women。 If you have not read that first, as it will not make much sense as a stand alone book。 You could still enjoy it, but it means so much more when you already know all the characters and their different situations。 。。。more

This is a quick, adorable read。If you're like me, and Little Women is one of your hyper fixations, then you understand how difficult it is to get your hands on anything March girls related that isn't watching the Greta Gerwig adaptation a million times in a row (not that there is absolutely anything wrong with that because #LittleWomen2019 till I die)。 Plus it makes sense: Little Women was published in 1868, so of course beyond the source material we can only daydream more adventures for our fav This is a quick, adorable read。If you're like me, and Little Women is one of your hyper fixations, then you understand how difficult it is to get your hands on anything March girls related that isn't watching the Greta Gerwig adaptation a million times in a row (not that there is absolutely anything wrong with that because #LittleWomen2019 till I die)。 Plus it makes sense: Little Women was published in 1868, so of course beyond the source material we can only daydream more adventures for our favorite characters, reading Alcott biographies and letters until we know her inside and out (that is, as well as you can know any historical figure through artifacts, but that's a discussion for another time, or perhaps my review of the Susan Cheever's Louisa May Alcott biography found here: https://www。goodreads。com/review/show。。。 )Jo & Laurie gives classics fans everything they could ever want- good, solid, wholesome fanfiction。Don't get me wrong, I am fiercely supportive of Alcott's choices in Little Women; Marrying a redeemed and grown Amy to Laurie, Jo to her intellectual equal Professor Baher。 It makes sense to the story because it so closely examines life and the ways in which it is difficult and beautiful and chaotic。 It doesn't wrap itself neatly into a bow giving readers exactly what they want because that is not the way the world works。That being said。。。Fancying myself a Jo and always being enamored by Laurie, this book was music to my soul。Just because I support the original telling doesn't mean my romantic heart wasn't dying for these two best friends to fall madly in love with one another。 Not just that, but I felt the retelling was done beautifully, borrowing from source material when appropriate and keeping true to the characters when not。 Stohl and De La Cruz did a wonderful job making sure the March family was still the March family even when their lives went a different direction。I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who loves Little Women just as much as I do, and who is looking to get their hands on something new。 。。。more

Have to give it a 5 stars for the fact that its about Jo and Laurie and their relationship。I have read Little Women (or Little Women part 1 as it is usually known) and it was fun to pick up with everything in this book。 The characters felt more or less as they did in the book。 There were some parts that seemed a bit of a stretch trying to explain why Jo wrote certain things in Good Wives, but there were so many good moments I didn't mind much: Jo and Laurie at the watering hole, their magical tr Have to give it a 5 stars for the fact that its about Jo and Laurie and their relationship。I have read Little Women (or Little Women part 1 as it is usually known) and it was fun to pick up with everything in this book。 The characters felt more or less as they did in the book。 There were some parts that seemed a bit of a stretch trying to explain why Jo wrote certain things in Good Wives, but there were so many good moments I didn't mind much: Jo and Laurie at the watering hole, their magical trip to New York, and the interactions all the characters had。 It was such a breath of fresh air to see something less gritty in the YA section。 Very good ending! I literally read this in one sitting。 I just adore how the authors stay true to the characters’ cores and as a 1994 Jo & Laurie shipper (and a 2019 Amy & Laurie shipper btw) this book is exactly what I love。 As someone who truly identifies with Jo’s struggle between wanting independence and wanting love, this book fulfilled all my wildest dreams。I love little women with all my heart and soul, so getting this book from my mom was interesting。 At first I was skeptical, but I promise that this book I literally read this in one sitting。 I just adore how the authors stay true to the characters’ cores and as a 1994 Jo & Laurie shipper (and a 2019 Amy & Laurie shipper btw) this book is exactly what I love。 As someone who truly identifies with Jo’s struggle between wanting independence and wanting love, this book fulfilled all my wildest dreams。I love little women with all my heart and soul, so getting this book from my mom was interesting。 At first I was skeptical, but I promise that this book is worth it。 All the inside jokes, all the quick lovelorn glances, and every heartbroken moment is perfect。I will mention that technically this book is meant to be from Louisa (Lu) Alcott’s perspective, but written as Jo。 I’ll also mention that, as I see the many complaints from other reviews, 1 mama abba was named after Louisa’s mom 2 I don’t think Jo was canonically lesbian? Just because she wants to be independent doesn’t mean she’s LGBTQ? 3 ITS NOT THE CANON BOOK FOR GODS SAKE 4 it is a sweet little book and so many people are walking into this prejudiced。 I still love it so much。 I’ve always loved Jo and Louisa, so having them combined, showing the struggles of a writer…Damn I may as well start writing about my own life because nothing gets better than reading stories like this。You need to read it, basically。 I’m so in love with this book I can’t go into literary criticism。have a nice day <3 。。。more
