Summary

Inspiration can come from the most unlikely - and inconvenient - sources。

Kara Sullivan’s life is full of love - albeit fictional。 As a best-selling romance novelist and influential Bookstagrammer, she’s fine with getting her happily-ever-after fix between the covers of a book。

But right now? Not only is Kara’s best friend getting married next week - which means big wedding stress - but the deadline for her next novel is looming, and she hasn’t written a single word。 The last thing she needs is for her infuriating first love, Ryan Thompson, to suddenly appear in the wedding party。 But Ryan’s unexpected arrival sparks a creative awakening in Kara that inspires the steamy historical romance she desperately needs to deliver。

With her wedding duties intensifying, her deadline getting closer by the second and her bills not paying themselves, Kara knows there’s only one way for her to finish her book and to give her characters the ever-after they deserve。 But can she embrace the unlikely, ruggedly handsome muse—who pushes every one of her buttons—to save the wedding, her career and, just maybe, write her own happy ending?

“All right, so you asking me if books with the same trope are carbon copies of each other would be equivalent to me asking you if every baseball game you watch is the same。 I mean, they’re all just playing baseball, following the same rules and always ending the same with one team winning。 It must be boring。” (I mean this is kind of how I feel about baseball…。but definitely not books!)Kara is stuck on her next novel。 She knows she needs to push through and finish it because as soon as she finish “All right, so you asking me if books with the same trope are carbon copies of each other would be equivalent to me asking you if every baseball game you watch is the same。 I mean, they’re all just playing baseball, following the same rules and always ending the same with one team winning。 It must be boring。” (I mean this is kind of how I feel about baseball…。but definitely not books!)Kara is stuck on her next novel。 She knows she needs to push through and finish it because as soon as she finishes her maid of honor duties in her best friends wedding, she is off to Italy for a 6 month vacation! When her college boyfriend and the one that got away shows up as a groomsman however, Karas life is flipped upside down。 Things did not end well with Ryan, and she can think of nothing she’d like less than to spend a week with him。 Too bad spending time with him seems to give her the writing mojo she needs。Ok I need to start with a disclaimer on this one。 This is not a book about a bookstagrammer。 Yes, she has a bookstagram but it is such a small part of the story。 I was expecting it to be more of a focus so figured I’d put it there in case you expected it too! As a side note: it wasn’t super marketed as being about bookstagram-I think I got that from other people! This was the perfect lovers to enemies to lovers story! The chemistry between Kara and Ryan was immediately apparent, and their banter was so fabulous! I thought the look at Kara’s novel coming together throughout the book really added something extra。 I also really loved the side characters, her friends were so wonderful! Though I did give a second look when her sister gave her a hard time for drinking an entire bottle of wine in one night。 First of all, is that wrong? And second, she had no reason to assume she drank the entire thing the night before! She could have had one a glass a night for a week! Either way, I still loved this story, and if you love authors, readers, and romance, you should definitely pick this one up! 。。。more

Things I didn’t like: I wanted more from some of the relationships in the book。 There was a lot of good stuff in there: mother-daughter relationship, sister-relationship, best friends, childhood friends。。。and each of them had a shining moment。 But it felt a little overwhelming and rushed and times。 Also, I could have done without the epilogue。 Also, I’m not 100% sure that I think Kara and Ryan’s relationship is healthy per-se, but I loved them a lot so I’m moving past that。 Overall solid 4。5 stars, I’m looking forward to reading more from Kate Bromley! 。。。more

Initially, I was interested in this book but the following review helped me to decide to avoid this book。https://www。goodreads。com/review/show。。。First of all, I don't like the "book within a book" trope。 And also, I usually have problems with second-chance romance books as I don't believe giving people second chances。 In this book, they were separated because of misunderstandings as the heroine thought he cheated on her (he didn't)。 But at present day, he is now engaged to that woman she thought Initially, I was interested in this book but the following review helped me to decide to avoid this book。https://www。goodreads。com/review/show。。。First of all, I don't like the "book within a book" trope。 And also, I usually have problems with second-chance romance books as I don't believe giving people second chances。 In this book, they were separated because of misunderstandings as the heroine thought he cheated on her (he didn't)。 But at present day, he is now engaged to that woman she thought he cheated on her with。 This is TOO distasteful for me。 Nope, thanks but no。 。。。more

This second-chance romance started out very strong。 There was humor, great chemistry, and a cute dog。 I thought I was heading towards a 4 or 5 star read, and then her friend's wedding happened。 My enjoyment came to a screeching halt。 I don't think Ryan should have been forgiven at all, and I felt like this book was glorifying some pretty unhealthy patterns。 I think the book would have been excellent and a more balanced read if her not telling him about Italy would have been The Conflict。Thank yo This second-chance romance started out very strong。 There was humor, great chemistry, and a cute dog。 I thought I was heading towards a 4 or 5 star read, and then her friend's wedding happened。 My enjoyment came to a screeching halt。 I don't think Ryan should have been forgiven at all, and I felt like this book was glorifying some pretty unhealthy patterns。 I think the book would have been excellent and a more balanced read if her not telling him about Italy would have been The Conflict。Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Cute, tropey romance。spoiler:I didn’t have strong enough feelings to care about the moral badness of the male lead, so that didn’t ruin it for me。 But I understand why it did for others, especially those who are romance fans。 A misunderstanding where she *thought* he was engaged would have been more standard。 But would have annoyed me more (I hate it when people jump to wrong conclusions for the sake of a plot)。

She was a brilliant character, I loved how she never felt bad about putting Kara in her place and making her grow up a little bit。 I feel like this sort of friendship is so underrated in books but it is so real! The plot twist in this book shook me to the core。 I absolutely never expected it and I gasped when I read it。 I'm glad the author took the route of not having Kara forgive Ryan straight away or 2 months down the line, it took her a solid 6 months to grow and realise it was what she wanted and I loved that。 I have nothing but praise for Kate Bromley, this novel was fantastic and I literally couldn't put it down。 I know so many people that will love this and i'll definitely be recommending it to everyone!Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more

When Ryan needs a place to stay until the wedding, Kara offers her home to her unexpected muse and his adorable bulldog Duke。Unlike your typical romance as described in detail in the book, these characters seemed more real with their own problems and mistakes。 Real life isn't black and white and sometimes it's the hardships and mistakes you learn to forgive that make for true love and romance。 And these two have plenty of those! I absolutely loved Ryan's dog Duke too! He reminds me off a couple dogs I've had in the past。 Sometimes it's those interrupted romantic moments that are most memorable and hilarious。 I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley。 The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own。 。。。more

I found Talk Bookish to Me by Kate Bromley just ok。 The main characters Kara and Ryan dislike each other because they broke up ten years ago。 Kara is a fiction author with a great book contract but is unable to produce the book she's already been paid for。 Somehow I never got excited about a potential rebirth of romance and I didn't get frantic about the book's deadline。 Even the vacation in Italy was just ok。 Maybe Kara and Ryan are just not my type。 I found Talk Bookish to Me by Kate Bromley just ok。 The main characters Kara and Ryan dislike each other because they broke up ten years ago。 Kara is a fiction author with a great book contract but is unable to produce the book she's already been paid for。 Somehow I never got excited about a potential rebirth of romance and I didn't get frantic about the book's deadline。 Even the vacation in Italy was just ok。 Maybe Kara and Ryan are just not my type。 。。。more

I had high hopes for this book, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me。 Kara is a romance writer who is suffering from writer's block。 When she runs into her college ex-boyfriend at a wedding she realizes he may be a muse for her writing。 She's willing to overlook the fact that their relationship did not end well so she can keep Ryan in her presence and therefore keep her writing flowing。 I had a hard time following the dialogue in the book (which was pretty extensive, btw) and knowing who was I had high hopes for this book, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me。 Kara is a romance writer who is suffering from writer's block。 When she runs into her college ex-boyfriend at a wedding she realizes he may be a muse for her writing。 She's willing to overlook the fact that their relationship did not end well so she can keep Ryan in her presence and therefore keep her writing flowing。 I had a hard time following the dialogue in the book (which was pretty extensive, btw) and knowing who was speaking when。 There was some overlap with the responses and it made it confusing to know who was who - I'm not sure if it was a formatting issue or a composition issue, but either way - it was hard to follow。 While I loved the chemistry between Kara and Ryan, there were certain elements of the story that really changed how I felt towards Ryan。 Overall not terrible, but not the great rom-com I was hoping for。 Thanks to NetGalley and Graydon House for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

Talk Bookish to Me is the cute story of reunited exes thrown together in the midst of their best friends’ wedding week。 The plotline is somewhat familiar although Bromley did her best to reengineer the characters’ backstories。 Even though the story was at times expected, I found the plot engaging and easily finished the book in one sitting。 Anyone who knows me knows that I am a fan of rom coms and admittedly love-hate relationship dramas are a guilty pleasure。 This one is reminiscent of Beach Re Talk Bookish to Me is the cute story of reunited exes thrown together in the midst of their best friends’ wedding week。 The plotline is somewhat familiar although Bromley did her best to reengineer the characters’ backstories。 Even though the story was at times expected, I found the plot engaging and easily finished the book in one sitting。 Anyone who knows me knows that I am a fan of rom coms and admittedly love-hate relationship dramas are a guilty pleasure。 This one is reminiscent of Beach Read and as an added bonus the protagonist is a bookstagrammer。 With all this in mind, I will definitely be looking for more novels from debut author Kate Bromley。 Reluctantly though, I must admit that I struggled with what to rate this one due to the story’s end。 I must caution anyone before reading this that after getting 75% of the way into the book the plot turns anything but predictable。 I wished the ending hadn’t quite unfolded the way it did。 Bromley definitely put a different spin on this tale, and it left me with mixed feelings on a relationship I had previously liked。 -- Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with a digital review copy in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more
