Summary

As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect。 He was laying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his domelike brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in position and was about to slide off completely。 His numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes。

Bueno, me dio asco a ratos。 Nunca había a Kafka, mi humilde edición traía unos cuentos bellos <3

My love/hate relationship with this story is immaculate。 Definitely would read again and again while also despising myself for it

I told Daniel he shouldn’t go into the Franz Kafka museum without first reading some Kafka。 So we sat in a nearby cafe and read/discussed the story before venturing into what was an excellent museum (even/especially for someone who doesn’t love his writing)。

He neither left my first episode of hallucination nor how similarly our legs don't carry us at times。 Our。 Mine, his, and probably yours too? If you'd decide to pick this one。 The next room conversations bother us both even though we don't show it。 We both do stupid things to entertain ourselves。 Page number 73。 78。 89! What else do you want to know? It is indeed one of a kind book, although the writing is not that significant。 I personally could relate to the book, yet my nerves didn't feel anything。 I felt the uselessness, yet I was reading fast without having to mark good sentences。 I have been isolated in this overpopulated city。 I'd want to rate this book more, but for now it's a three out of five from my side。 。。。more

My classic of the summer。 Read if you have strange dreams, are into philosophy, or like to ponder situations that will never happen。

The first bit was perfectly charming, the second bit was disheartening, and the last bit was just plain sad。 I don't know what I expected of an "existentialist" book。 :'(Simply as a story about a man-turned-beetle, there's not much to it, but you can read a lot into it with all its themes and imagery。 I can see how/why literature people love it。 I must remember this as a good story to analyze if the need ever arises。 The first bit was perfectly charming, the second bit was disheartening, and the last bit was just plain sad。 I don't know what I expected of an "existentialist" book。 :'(Simply as a story about a man-turned-beetle, there's not much to it, but you can read a lot into it with all its themes and imagery。 I can see how/why literature people love it。 I must remember this as a good story to analyze if the need ever arises。 。。。more

3 starsI liked the comment on capitalism and society in this book。It was very strange and I don’t think I’m smart enough to understand the depth of this story all the way, but I still enjoyed itAlso his family was so mean and rude? He took care of them for years and now when he can’t do that anymore they despise him。

Victor Hugo

Bom livro。

A travelling salesman who transformed into a gigantic cockroach for two weeks is the subject of the short story "The Metamorphosis。"The book does a wonderful job of describing how his family's behaviour changed as a result of the occurrence。 He was a burden on the family and wasn't even permitted to leave his room。 Before the incident he used to toil endlessly for his family, which made them a burden, but once he turned into a cockroach, he was unable to work and was unable to earn money。 After A travelling salesman who transformed into a gigantic cockroach for two weeks is the subject of the short story "The Metamorphosis。"The book does a wonderful job of describing how his family's behaviour changed as a result of the occurrence。 He was a burden on the family and wasn't even permitted to leave his room。 Before the incident he used to toil endlessly for his family, which made them a burden, but once he turned into a cockroach, he was unable to work and was unable to earn money。 After that, his importance was nullified。 At the slightest misstep, his father beat him up, and eventually he was told it would be better for him to be dead。The story is the portrayal of the author, Franz Kafka's personal life。 。。。more

25/7/22 - 26/7/22It's nothing short of disturbing how banally the most disconcerting situations are stated。 By the ending of the book one cannot help but to draw a clear line between this short story and out good old S O C I E T Y。 Still, I'm not sure if I want to believe this is a cautionary tale on capitalism, where objects and people only have value as long as they are useful。 Did the Samsas, specially Greta, really stop caring for Gregor because he no longer was the financial support of the 25/7/22 - 26/7/22It's nothing short of disturbing how banally the most disconcerting situations are stated。 By the ending of the book one cannot help but to draw a clear line between this short story and out good old S O C I E T Y。 Still, I'm not sure if I want to believe this is a cautionary tale on capitalism, where objects and people only have value as long as they are useful。 Did the Samsas, specially Greta, really stop caring for Gregor because he no longer was the financial support of the family? I'd say it's forced to assume so。 After all, the story is told from Gregor's POV, which has - imo - a rather peculiarly objective view of the world, where everyone has specific role。 I'd even say every character in the story shares this view。 That is, of course, until Gregor turns into a pickle - funniest sh*t I've ever seen, I may add。Ramblings aside, it had been a while since I'd read something as simple and strangely funny, yet so thought provoking as this。 The ending, specially, was so bittersweet。 Just after Gregor dies the world goes on its marry way better than ever。 At least it seems this way。 My head canon, however, is a bit different。 I'm almost sure the father will delve on his actions a bit。Human headed cockroach / 10 。。。more

The actual plot of this book is a little nonsensical but it was done with great intention that allows the themes (Family duty, absurdity of work/life, etc) to be explored deeply。 This would have been a great read for a HS english class because it’s so easy and short, but I think I could have a really enjoyable discussion about it。Also the idea of getting alienated for the physical appearance/ability while the mind is sound kinda hit close to home
