Summary

Jo Rioux (illustrator of M。 T。 Anderson's highly acclaimed The Daughters of Ys) makes her debut as a writer-illustrator in this fanatsy-adventure graphic novel trilogy!

Suri loves monsters—studying their lore, telling stories about them (for a fee), and—she hopes—one day taming them。 Unfortunately, no one takes an orphan street-urchin who travels with a merchant camp very seriously。 But Suri’s self-confidence, cleverness, and ambition serve her well when a mysterious new wagon joins her camp—holding something very big, very loud, and very monstrous。

And that’s before Suri runs afoul of a treacherous family with its own beastly secret—and a prince hunting the greatest monster of all。

Beautiful art and some really fun worldbuilding in this one。 This barely scratched the surface of whatever is going on in this fantasy land, so I'm excited to read more。 Also big kudos to the author for redrawing the entire thing from its original publication ten years ago。 Beautiful art and some really fun worldbuilding in this one。 This barely scratched the surface of whatever is going on in this fantasy land, so I'm excited to read more。 Also big kudos to the author for redrawing the entire thing from its original publication ten years ago。 。。。more

Cat’s Cradle is a stunning and delightful story for readers of all-ages。 Beautiful illustrations and colours make everything pop off the page, and the world building within the story—everything from the characters to the magic to the monsters—is so fun and captivating。 It feels like an origin story for Tony Cliff’s Delilah Dirk series, if Delilah was a monster hunter。 So with that, I think it’s also safe to say that if you’ve enjoyed those books, Cat’s Cradle will be up your alley。 Similarly if Cat’s Cradle is a stunning and delightful story for readers of all-ages。 Beautiful illustrations and colours make everything pop off the page, and the world building within the story—everything from the characters to the magic to the monsters—is so fun and captivating。 It feels like an origin story for Tony Cliff’s Delilah Dirk series, if Delilah was a monster hunter。 So with that, I think it’s also safe to say that if you’ve enjoyed those books, Cat’s Cradle will be up your alley。 Similarly if you enjoyed Tim Probert’s LightFall books, this is in a similar vein。 。。。more

★ 3。0 Stars ★I enjoyed this a lot。 It's the first in a trilogy, but it isn't really a self-contained story, it does't actually end on a cliffhanger, but it KIND of feels like it does in a way, cause it kind of just leaves you hanging。 The artwork is super pretty, just the kind of style I really like to look at。 ★ 3。0 Stars ★I enjoyed this a lot。 It's the first in a trilogy, but it isn't really a self-contained story, it does't actually end on a cliffhanger, but it KIND of feels like it does in a way, cause it kind of just leaves you hanging。 The artwork is super pretty, just the kind of style I really like to look at。 。。。more

The only thing revealed is the nature of the big monster the village leader has “caught。” Suri is a likable street waif with a good dose of spunk and is fun to follow around on her misadventures。 There’s a delightful humorous tone to the story, especially the open secret in the village of Suri’s whereabouts while the leader hunts hither and yon for her。 The monster also turns out to be delightful, and the caitsiths are interesting mythical creatures I’ve never encountered before that provide a good amount of suspense to the story。 Overall, a delightful fantasy graphic novel adventure for middle grade readers on up (though you may want to wait for book 2 to come out to avoid the pain of waiting for the cliffhanger to resolve)。Notes on content [based on the ARC}: No language issues that I remember。 No sexual content。 There’s violence threatened, but only an annoying crow killed (and that is implied by flying feathers)。I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This definitely feels like a first installment in a longer series, since this volume provides the set-up for Suri's journey, with a prince who also wants to travel and hunt monsters and some other monsters following Suri to regain something she unintentionally took。 I'll definitely be recommending this and reading the sequel because I can't wait to see how Suri's adventure goes!(thanks to the publisher on netgalley for the arc!) 。。。more
