Take a ringside seat in the high-stakes world of international politics 。 。 。

After a tumultuous period in American politics, a new administration has just been sworn in。 Secretary of State, Ellen Adams, is determined to do her duty for her country。 But she is about to face a horrifying international threat 。 。 。

A young foreign service officer has received a baffling text from an anonymous source。 Too late, she realizes it was a hastily coded warning。 Then a series of bus bombs devastate Europe, heralding the rise of a new rogue terrorist organization who will stop at nothing in their efforts to develop their own nuclear arsenal。

As Ellen unravels the damaging effects of the former presidency on international politics, she must also contemplate the unthinkable: that the last president of the United States was more than just an ineffectual leader。 Was he also a traitor to his country?

State of Terror is a compelling and critically acclaimed international political thriller co-written by Hillary Rodham Clinton, the 67th secretary of state, and Louise Penny, a multiple award-winning #1 New York Times bestselling novelist。

Great collaboration between two fine writersVery entertaining, with good insights as to what responsible government requires, and what those who wish to do it are up against。 I enjoyed the book。

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️。5I saw CBS This Morning where Louise Penny and Hillary Clinton were on talking about this book and decided to check it out。It’s kind of like Scandal meets those action movies where the government is under attack…。in a thriller。 Really didn’t appreciate the stereotyping and the racial profiling for non-white characters。The thriller aspect really got me when reading each chapter and the build up。 The ending also implies that maybe there’s going to be a sequel 🤔🤔Reading it the day af Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️。5I saw CBS This Morning where Louise Penny and Hillary Clinton were on talking about this book and decided to check it out。It’s kind of like Scandal meets those action movies where the government is under attack…。in a thriller。 Really didn’t appreciate the stereotyping and the racial profiling for non-white characters。The thriller aspect really got me when reading each chapter and the build up。 The ending also implies that maybe there’s going to be a sequel 🤔🤔Reading it the day after the Jan。 6 heading was in a way freaky and not planned。 Definitely fit the moment and climate。 。。。more

I was spectacle about this book, but I should have known that anything Louise Perry writes is bound to be good。 Hillary adds her knowledge of the state department to Louise's skills and the result is an intriguing thriller。 When bombs are placed on seemingly random buses in three different European cities, all of the world hurries to figure out the who, what and why's before even more destruction occurs。 It's fast moving and gripping。 I was spectacle about this book, but I should have known that anything Louise Perry writes is bound to be good。 Hillary adds her knowledge of the state department to Louise's skills and the result is an intriguing thriller。 When bombs are placed on seemingly random buses in three different European cities, all of the world hurries to figure out the who, what and why's before even more destruction occurs。 It's fast moving and gripping。 。。。more

Great duoThank you for taking the opportunity to scare me to death! But it had to be done。 Mrs Clinton thank you for a sort of behind the scenes look。 I’ve read every book that Louise Penney as written and I look forward to her next book。 I recommend this to all。 (No more or spoilers)。

3。5 ⭐️ it’s thriller! It’s HRC kicking in the door and saving the day! There were a few times where I : 1。 Got names mixed up。 2。 Kinda rolled my eyes at how crazy something was。 Lol I think this may have been my first political thriller。 This was def a bunch of punches at 45 but I’m down for that 😂 even though a lot of the moments were a little “fantastic” it makes ya wonder about em。 To wrap up- this book is titled state of terror and they used that same phrase a lot near the end of the book。 3。5 ⭐️ it’s thriller! 3。5 rounded up because it was a page-turner。 I’m still weirded out by the authors’ practice of contracting phrases that aren’t usually contractions, like “This’s。” But overall it was engaging and interesting。

This book was just too much。 I might've enjoyed it had it been half the amount of pages but it wasn't so I didn't。 I literally skipped a couple chapters and missed nothing。 I have never read any of these authors works before and I'm not sure I will after this one。 This book was just too much。 I might've enjoyed it had it been half the amount of pages but it wasn't so I didn't。 I literally skipped a couple chapters and missed nothing。 I have never read any of these authors works before and I'm not sure I will after this one。 。。。more

What a great debut! I was quite surprised by how exciting this book was, and accurate。 It's difficult not wondering who's who in this story, but it actually only makes it even better, not knowing for sure。 Totally recommend it! Not my typical genre of political thrillers, but I stayed up until 3am finishing the last 200 pages last night。 The sleep deprivation today is 100% worth it。

Clancy Pool

This had been on my TBR since it came out for the most part because Louise Penny is the author。 I suspect Penny did the writing and Clinton supplied the background。 It is a classic political suspense mystery with interesting characters and a quick visit to Three Pines。

Honestly surprisingly enjoyable

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It was a good read, but with so many characters that at times I had to leave ok at my notes。 The story, while fiction, was hard to swallow, especially considering the author。 The references left a bad taste in my mouth。 I almost abandoned the book。 The ending did open the door to another book。

I loved this book。 It was much better than "The President Is Missing" by her husband。 I loved this book。 It was much better than "The President Is Missing" by her husband。 。。。more

I was driven forward by the incredible suspense of this book, which made it very difficult to put down。 I felt like I was binging a season of 24 or Homeland。 I adore both of these authors and their individual strengths carried through into the writing and telling of the story。 I enjoyed the subtle and not very subtle at all references to real life characters and situations。 Learning about the roots of the authors' friendship even further solidified the wonderful characterizations throughout。 Whe I was driven forward by the incredible suspense of this book, which made it very difficult to put down。 I felt like I was binging a season of 24 or Homeland。 I adore both of these authors and their individual strengths carried through into the writing and telling of the story。 I enjoyed the subtle and not very subtle at all references to real life characters and situations。 Learning about the roots of the authors' friendship even further solidified the wonderful characterizations throughout。 Where it missed was in the too frequently pivoting viewpoints。。。 so many different people that at times, it got a bit confusing and the resolution required a rehash of events for it to make sense。 It felt very grounded and realistic until the last 10%, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and hope for another collaboration between them。 。。。more

A great read。 I enjoyed how the different story lines started to converge more as the the story picked up, and as the climax of the book came the pace of the writing was quick which made everything feel very urgent。 Knowing that a former Secretary of Stare was one of the authors made everything feel more authentic, and I really enjoyed the parallels to the current political climate in the US。 I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers or mysteries。

Terry Caldwell

4。5 mystery。 Interesting and perhaps too close to home。 I really enjoy Louise Penny so this didn’t disappoint with her writing。 The government ideas and knowledge were obviously Clinton’s, and also good。 It is fiction yet believable。。 I wish it weren’t。 Good book though。

Thrillers aren't always my favourite genre but this one is good。Thing I like:- Fast paced plot since I have the attention span of a goldfish。- The references to the previous administration, especially considering one of the authors。 Thrillers aren't always my favourite genre but this one is good。Thing I like:- Fast paced plot since I have the attention span of a goldfish。- The references to the previous administration, especially considering one of the authors。 。。。more

I've read and enjoyed several Louise Penny books。 This book obviously breaks out of the Inspector Ganache mold with Hillary Clinton as the co-author, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as well。 The plot is as interesting and suspenseful as it is terrifying (seeing as its main storyline is loosely based on an experience Clinton had while Secretary of State)。 I also loved that the plot takes its readers back to Three Pines and some of the Inspector Gamache characters。 I've read and enjoyed several Louise Penny books。 This book obviously breaks out of the Inspector Ganache mold with Hillary Clinton as the co-author, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as well。 The plot is as interesting and suspenseful as it is terrifying (seeing as its main storyline is loosely based on an experience Clinton had while Secretary of State)。 I also loved that the plot takes its readers back to Three Pines and some of the Inspector Gamache characters。 。。。more

Finally made it to this book in my TBR stack! Enjoyed this book more than I thought I would although the plot reminds me of a TV political thriller。 No doubt Louise Penny did a lot of the writing here, and Hillary Clinton came up with the premise。 Actually glad I waited to read this book until after learning more about the backgrounds and actions of the January 6 co-conspirators。 Sadly, it is not so far-fetched to ponder whether our nation and our democracy will crumble with the assistance of do Finally made it to this book in my TBR stack! I recently began two thrillers featuring a Clinton: The President is Missing by Bill C and James Patterson, and this one by Hillary C and Louis Penny。 I abandoned the former about 15% in, I didn't care for the blustery, pocket-thriller writing。 State of Terror, on the other hand, has better writing and nuanced, thinking characters。 Though I enjoyed it, I felt uncomfortable for two reasons。 1。 It's awkward to have a former Secretary of State write about a brilliant, wise, funny, heroic Secretary I recently began two thrillers featuring a Clinton: The President is Missing by Bill C and James Patterson, and this one by Hillary C and Louis Penny。 I abandoned the former about 15% in, I didn't care for the blustery, pocket-thriller writing。 State of Terror, on the other hand, has better writing and nuanced, thinking characters。 Though I enjoyed it, I felt uncomfortable for two reasons。 1。 It's awkward to have a former Secretary of State write about a brilliant, wise, funny, heroic Secretary of State who smells just like her。 That can't avoid feeling self-serving。 2。 They shoehorn the Three Pines characters - for whom Penny is famous - into this book。 I enjoy Louise Penny's books, and this one stretches her political muscles effectively。 。。。more

This book is a page-turner。 It’s characters are believable and relevant。 After reading the origin of certain characters in the afterword, you can see the love that went into their development。 The story moves fast, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and is extra terrifying because it feels so plausible。 I hope these two authors collaborate again! I’m looking forward to reading Louise Penny’s other books now that I’ve been introduced to her writing。

It was ok。 It definitely kept my attention but I’m not into reading about politics。 Read it bc it’s a book club book。

This was a suspenseful book。 I wanted to keep reading it to see what happened。 I did realize that Hillary made herself out to be the hero…or Ellen as Secretary of State in the book。 Several referrals to Trump Or Dunn in the book。 Rolled my eyes a couple times but overall it was well written。

Mary Chapman

Fast-paced but not without a few seams and clunksGanache and Three Pines seeman add-in too late in the crises。 Some of the action was very well-written, some from personal observations, but no SOS is Superwoman, wining her way across the world to right every wrong。

Larry Harty

You know I was a little skeptical when first being handed the book。 Not being a fan of books co-written by persons outside of the "writing field"。 I was wrong on a couple fronts as Hilary has written a few other books and this one was right up my alley。 I enjoy the Gamache series and this one did not disappoint。 Thank you。 You know I was a little skeptical when first being handed the book。 Not being a fan of books co-written by persons outside of the "writing field"。 I was wrong on a couple fronts as Hilary has written a few other books and this one was right up my alley。 I enjoy the Gamache series and this one did not disappoint。 Thank you。 。。。more
