Summary

How would you spend five million dollars in 30 days? A billionaire's wallet, a bizarre challenge, and an unlikely friendship send two kids on a wild adventure。 From the author of The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl

Felix Rannells and Benji Porter were never supposed to be field-trip partners。 Felix is a rule follower。 Benji is a rule bender。 They're not friends。 And they don't have anything to talk about。 Until 。 。 。

They find a wallet。 A wallet that belongs to tech billionaire Laura Friendly。 They're totally going to return it-but not before Benji borrows twenty dollars to buy hot dogs。 Because twenty dollars is like a penny to a billionaire, right?

But a penny has value。 A penny doubled every day for thirty days is $5,368,709。12! So that's exactly how much money Laura Friendly challenges Felix and Benji to spend。 They have thirty days。 They can't tell anyone。 And there are LOTS of other rules。 But if they succeed, they each get ten million dollars to spend however they want。

Challenge accepted! They rent cool cars, go to Disney World, buy pizza for the whole school-and that's just the beginning! But money can't buy everything or fix every problem。 And spending it isn't always as easy and fun as they thought it would be。 。 。 。

As smart as it is entertaining, Millionaires for the Month is a thought-provoking story about friendship, privilege, and the value of a penny。

Such a fun book! Some great characters, fast-paced, and a fun premise for a story。

Liz Doyle

Great middle/jr high book。 Fast paced and high interest。

Millionaires for the Month is an upbeat, romp of a middle-grade novel。 It has no bad guys, no superpowers, just two ordinary kids who get themselves involved in a game to spend over $5 million dollars。 I can't wait to share this title with my 4th and 5th grader students。 As an added bonus, this story is set in Albany NY。 One of the main characters is a philosophy major at my alma mater, The Univesity at Albany。 Never preachy, always kid-appropriate, this book deals with spending, saving, inequit Millionaires for the Month is an upbeat, romp of a middle-grade novel。 It has no bad guys, no superpowers, just two ordinary kids who get themselves involved in a game to spend over $5 million dollars。 I can't wait to share this title with my 4th and 5th grader students。 As an added bonus, this story is set in Albany NY。 One of the main characters is a philosophy major at my alma mater, The Univesity at Albany。 Never preachy, always kid-appropriate, this book deals with spending, saving, inequities, and values。 。。。more

This was a really cute book。 This was a fun idea for a story。 Although some of it might be a tad unrealistic, it was fun to see how Benji & Felix spent the money。 What would you buy if you had to spend $5,368。709。12 in 3o days?

What would you do if you were forced to spend $5 million in one month? That’s exactly the challenge that’s been offered to Benji and Felix。 Sounds like a dream come true, right? Ok so…here it is:(There are no spoilers so feel free to keep reading)I thought this was a really good book, a quick read and - like all of Stacy’s books - was set on a simple concept and everything also that could have happened。 I like to think of it as kind of a Murphy’s Law, except for Stacy McNulty。 I mean this not in a bad way but that, such a simple idea can be so illustrated (you know), so detailed, and literally into a 200- something paged book。So if you’re new to books like this - and I Ok so…here it is:(There are no spoilers so feel free to keep reading)I thought this was a really good book, a quick read and - like all of Stacy’s books - was set on a simple concept and everything also that could have happened。 I like to think of it as kind of a Murphy’s Law, except for Stacy McNulty。 I mean this not in a bad way but that, such a simple idea can be so illustrated (you know), so detailed, and literally into a 200- something paged book。So if you’re new to books like this - and I mean Stacy’s and others - I highly recommend it to you。 Especially if you are a kid I think you’ll defiantly get a kick out of this one 。。。more

It was a good book but a little drawn out in my opinion。 I liked the theme/plot, but it was longer than needed。

I really wanted to like ‘Millionaires for the Month’, but I just couldn’t get past the horrible premise of the book。Towards the end of the book, Felix’s mom asks Laura Friendly “What is wrong with you? You gave two twelve-year-old boys a five-million-dollar secret?” To which Ms。 Friendly responds, “When you say it like that, it sounds awful。”True Dat。Stacy McAnulty should have completely scrapped the book, immediately after writing this exchange。 Also, I wanted more from Reggie…Felix’s sister wa I really wanted to like ‘Millionaires for the Month’, but I just couldn’t get past the horrible premise of the book。Towards the end of the book, Felix’s mom asks Laura Friendly “What is wrong with you? Cute story with lots of opportunities for kids to think about what they would do in similar situations。

Eh。 Parts were fun, but so many missed opportuities for life lessons in this that were not taken。 Even at the end。。。。。eh。 I did not care about the characters。 Will not be recommending to my 4th and 5th grade。

Olivia

had to read this with my little brother lmao。 actually quite interesting for a kids book。

Read with my kids and we all really enjoyed it, even my 14 year old, who is difficult to impress these days。 It was fun talking about how we would try to spend that much in a month。

Maura

Great book。 I never thought it would be hard to spend that much money, but they proved me wrong。 Stacy took me into a crazy world like never before。 Great book and I totally recommend it。

Mary

The concept was great, and the book thought-provoking around things like friendship, honesty, and the value of money… but I thought some of the character development and plot lacked in reason or believability。 Also, parents of animal lovers out there should know that a dog almost dies, something worth noting for our sensitive girls!

What a fun story! Two boys find a wallet。。。which belongs to a billionaire。。。who offers a reward only if they can spend five million dollars in a month! There are rules to follow, including not telling anyone about the challenge, which makes the task harder than you might imagine。 This would be a great middle-grade read-aloud with many fun math tie-ins to go along with it。

There was a movie when I was a kid called "Brewster's Millions" starring Richard Pryor。 He played a minor league baseball player who had to spend a bunch of money very quickly in order to inherit even MORE money--but there were all kinds of rules about how he could spend (no assets, no gifts, no donating to charity, etc。)That is EXACTLY what the premise of this book is--only instead two 12-year-old boys must spend 5 million dollars in a month in order to get 10 million each。 But there are so man There was a movie when I was a kid called "Brewster's Millions" starring Richard Pryor。 He played a minor league baseball player who had to spend a bunch of money very quickly in order to inherit even MORE money--but there were all kinds of rules about how he could spend (no assets, no gifts, no donating to charity, etc。)That is EXACTLY what the premise of this book is--only instead two 12-year-old boys must spend 5 million dollars in a month in order to get 10 million each。 But there are so many rules and they can't tell anyone。。。which causes problems with their family, friends, and between each other。I enjoyed both main characters and their points of view, and watching them spend lavishly was pretty entertaining。 I like the different family dynamics, and I like that quiet, thoughtful Felix is the athlete while boisterous, outgoing Benji is not--it's a nice change from the typical "mean, popular jock" cliche。A fun read for middle grade。 。。。more

Classmates Felix and Benji are rewarded 5 million dollars by a billionaire, who gives them a couple of rules: 1。 They have one month to spend every penny and they get 10 million dollars each。 2。 They can only spend the money on themselves and can't invest it in any way。3。 All assets will be sold at the end of the month。4。 They can't tell ANYONE。This leads to the boys making ridiculously irresponsible purchases, such as a t-rex fossil, pants worn by Frodo, and pizza for the entire school every da Classmates Felix and Benji are rewarded 5 million dollars by a billionaire, who gives them a couple of rules: 1。 They have one month to spend every penny and they get 10 million dollars each。 2。 They can only spend the money on themselves and can't invest it in any way。3。 All assets will be sold at the end of the month。4。 They can't tell ANYONE。This leads to the boys making ridiculously irresponsible purchases, such as a t-rex fossil, pants worn by Frodo, and pizza for the entire school every day for a month。 5 million dollars suddenly feels more like a job than a dream。 This was a cute, funny book that had me guessing until the end whether or not the boys would complete the challenge。 It had some good messages about friendship, wealth, and privilege。 。。。more
