John “Lofty” Wiseman’s SAS Survival Handbook I rank as my second most favorite book after the Robert Graves gem “Goodbye to All That。” In prior years the more well thumbed pages on my copy were the “how to stay alive during a thermonuclear blast” chapter and various pages dedicated to surviving in the wilderness by eating worms and cooking up soup consisting of stinging nettles and snake intestines。 After moving to St。 Louis I now turn to the book’s resource pages on dealing with hostile urban e John “Lofty” Wiseman’s SAS Survival Handbook I rank as my second most favorite book after the Robert Graves gem “Goodbye to All That。” In prior years the more well thumbed pages on my copy were the “how to stay alive during a thermonuclear blast” chapter and various pages dedicated to surviving in the wilderness by eating worms and cooking up soup consisting of stinging nettles and snake intestines。 After moving to St。 Louis I now turn to the book’s resource pages on dealing with hostile urban environments and living in failed states。 This book is a great resource with a broad range of readership suited to anyone from the sophisticated urbanist dweller to to your typical survival minded Prepper。 (Helpful Hack! Own and do not borrow from your library as you never know when you will need it。 Buy a print copy, not digital as you when things go bad there will be no power) 。。。more

A really cool book about survival。 It’s the same type of survival that the SAS use! I recommend it to survival book readers!

Probably the best, most realistic, compact and complete survival guide out there。 It has everything you 'll ever need in a survival situation, but don't get too excited。 Reading about it and implementing it in a real survival situation are two different things。Worth reading, better yet studying。 Probably the best, most realistic, compact and complete survival guide out there。 It has everything you 'll ever need in a survival situation, but don't get too excited。 Reading about it and implementing it in a real survival situation are two different things。Worth reading, better yet studying。 。。。more

ok。。。

Justin

This is the best survival book I found so far。 It seems like it could be useful outside of an emergency just for the first aid and plant identification sections。 He really goes into great detail maintaining a level of detail not seen in other books。 For example, he shows how to skin/prepare animals and how to collect dew off of plants。

After the fires in N。 California where I live, it has changed my perspective。 I feel that I need to be more prepared。 This book really helped although practical application is really what is needed。 This would also be good to learn about camping too。

Tera

Chock full of information, diagrams, pictures and great advice。。。。。must have for anyone interested in nature and survival。 It took awhile to read due to the immense amount of information packed into this one book。

This is a useful little book。 It's not really intended to be read cover-to-cover, it's a field guide。 Physically, it's perfect for stashing in your pack, whether you're going camping for the weekend, headed out for an extended hike, or just want a comprehensive reference tool for your bug-out-bag。And it is comprehensive。 Among these plasticised pages lay virtually everything you might need to know if you find yourself in trouble out in the wilds。 From where and how to set up camp; to how to catc This is a useful little book。 It's not really intended to be read cover-to-cover, it's a field guide。 Physically, it's perfect for stashing in your pack, whether you're going camping for the weekend, headed out for an extended hike, or just want a comprehensive reference tool for your bug-out-bag。And it is comprehensive。 Among these plasticised pages lay virtually everything you might need to know if you find yourself in trouble out in the wilds。 From where and how to set up camp; to how to catch, kill, clean, and dress game in an improvised hunt for survival。 It even has full colour diagrams of common poisonous and edible plants throughout both Europe and North America, and detailed way-finding instructions。A great resource for anyone who spends time away from the city。 。。。more

I read this when I was homeless in England -- which is the time when you want to be reading a survival book written by a SAS guy。 Full of unforgettable tips like"Keep a journal" and "Fish eyes contain water" letting you realize just how bad it has to get if you really want to bother staying alive。 Sadly, my copy was burnt up when my ex-boyfriend set fire to my bender (a simple dwelling in the woods made of tarps over a framework of green wood。) That was the incident that finally kicked by stupid I read this when I was homeless in England -- which is the time when you want to be reading a survival book written by a SAS guy。 Full of unforgettable tips like"Keep a journal" and "Fish eyes contain water" letting you realize just how bad it has to get if you really want to bother staying alive。 Sadly, my copy was burnt up when my ex-boyfriend set fire to my bender (a simple dwelling in the woods made of tarps over a framework of green wood。) That was the incident that finally kicked by stupid arse back to America (where I was born) -- sadly, psychotic ex-boyfriends were not covered by Wiseman。 。。。more

SAS Survival Guide 2E (Collins Gem): For any climate, for any situation (Paperback)This is my second SAS guide。 First one fell apart using it。 One of the BEST you can buy。 Detailed。 Pocket sized。 Printing a little small if you have trouble reading。 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED。

Super useful reference。 Read it and then bought a copy。 I think it will be handy for me as an author who writes lots of "backwoods scenes," and that it would also be incredibly useful for its intended purpose。 Clearly written with good diagrams and packs a lot of information into a relatively compact package。 Highly recommended! Always carry this with me on trips。 Invaluable。 What it lacks in depth, it makes up for in amazing breadth。 I own the pocket edition; it is very compact and contains beautiful illustrations。

Fantastic reference book to read and refer to over and over。 It is small enough to slip into a purse or backpack and written in such a way that you can glean life saving info in just the few minutes you are standing in line at the grocery store。 Many of the topics covered could occur in every day life, while others are a bit random but possible (how to out run an alligator)。 I recommend keeping a copy in your personal "to-go" emergency bug-out bag - you just might need it!
