Summary

Whilst organising a mock murder hunt for the village fete hosted by Sir George and Lady Stubbs, a feeling of dread settles on the famous crime novelist Adriane Oliver。 Call it instinct, but it's a feeling she just can't explain。。。or get away from。

In desperation she summons her old friend, Hercule Poirot -- and her instincts are soon proved correct when the 'pretend' murder victim is discovered playing the scene for real, a rope wrapped tightly around her neck。

But it's the great detective who first discovers that in murder hunts, whether mock or real, everyone is playing a part。

Agatha always good

Feels a bit Christie-by-numbers until the preposterous denouement。 Still very entertaining though and David Suchet's accents are a delight。 Feels a bit Christie-by-numbers until the preposterous denouement。 Still very entertaining though and David Suchet's accents are a delight。 。。。more

As always, Ms。 Christie’s mysteries are absorbing。 You can’t put it down until the mystery is solved。 This one had a bit of an abrupt ending, leaving off a few details that would have rounded out the story。 But good nonetheless!Rate Procedure:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved the book so much I would reread it again and would recommended to a friend。⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Thoroughly enjoyed the book, could not do put it add down, would recommending to a friend, but do not need to read again。⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Probably a good book As always, Ms。 Christie’s mysteries are absorbing。 You can’t put it down until the mystery is solved。 This one had a bit of an abrupt ending, leaving off a few details that would have rounded out the story。 But good nonetheless!Rate Procedure:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved the book so much I would reread it again and would recommended to a friend。⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Thoroughly enjoyed the book, could not do put it add down, would recommending to a friend, but do not need to read again。⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Probably a good book that I enjoyed but there was something about it I did not love (e。g。 The writing style, the POV, etc。)。 I would only recommend to a friend if it was their "type" of book。⭐️⭐️ - A book I have below average feelings for and it would not come with a recommendation from me but I would mention it in conversation if related to the book topic at issue。⭐️ - I finished the book but I hated every second of it。 。。。more

This wasn’t the usual hercule poirot mystery where it’s solely hercule doing the detective work with a sidekick helping him。 The book was mainly characters describing each other in great detail with minor shade on skeletons in their respective closets。 The ending and “exposed murder plot” was so fantastical and outlandish that literally no one reading this would figure it out until hercule spells it out for you。 All in all, it was a decent story and had some great sarcastic lines from the cast。

I’ll give it to Ms Christie, she can be diabolical。 And that’s what this book is—or in the case of a few characters opinions, wicked。 Yet, I didn’t like this one as much。 I’m not sure if it’s Ariadne Oliver or not, as I’ve DNFd 2 others she was in and didn’t like this one。 Obviously a sound book, sound mystery, and definitely not where I thought it’d go。 Technically a win for me as I didn’t guess it, but I don’t savor the victory。 I give the book a solid 4 stars and would recommend it。Vocabulary I’ll give it to Ms Christie, she can be diabolical。 And that’s what this book is—or in the case of a few characters opinions, wicked。 Yet, I didn’t like this one as much。 I’m not sure if it’s Ariadne Oliver or not, as I’ve DNFd 2 others she was in and didn’t like this one。 Obviously a sound book, sound mystery, and definitely not where I thought it’d go。 Technically a win for me as I didn’t guess it, but I don’t savor the victory。 I give the book a solid 4 stars and would recommend it。Vocabulary sin: 4Vocabulary halo: 0 。。。more

Really good one here with a bunch of facts that make no sense involving a teen girl murdered and the missing wife of a wealthy man。 Late in the book, weeks after the crime, Poirot still is clueless of what happened until it finally clicks what could be the key to the mystery。 Really good again I would go 4。5 stars but still excellent。

Очень хорошо。 Чувствуется, что писала с энтузиазмом, пожалуй, впервые с 1951 года。Хоть и заметил сразу все подсказки и понял, кто убийца, но всё равно было интересно。

Delightful easy read paperback for those bp summer easy reads while waiting in line or trying to avoid the heat in the hot weather of summer。

I was looking forward to this one based on the premise, sadly it missed the mark。 Onwards and upwards!!

Como sempre a leitura foi super rápida。 E gostei da narrativa。 Achei a trama em si um pouco mais fraca que outros que li da autora。 Mas foi uma boa leitura。

I truly cannot seem to ever solve Agatha Christie's plots。 There's always an unexpected twist and this was no exception like I absolutely loved it😭 I truly cannot seem to ever solve Agatha Christie's plots。 There's always an unexpected twist and this was no exception like I absolutely loved it😭 。。。more

As always, Christie delivers a very entertaining novel with her very curious Hercule Poirot。

I started reading this book and it seemed familiar。 I later realized I had seen part of the movie version of this book on PBS。 I didn't finish the movie, for me the book was better。The eccentric Hercule Poirot is initially stymied by the murders, as are the police and I would guess most readers。 The ending was satisfying even though I wasn't close to figuring it out。 I started reading this book and it seemed familiar。 I later realized I had seen part of the movie version of this book on PBS。 I didn't finish the movie, for me the book was better。The eccentric Hercule Poirot is initially stymied by the murders, as are the police and I would guess most readers。 The ending was satisfying even though I wasn't close to figuring it out。 。。。more

While reading this book it did not make a very good impression, I thought it was going to be nothing special and it really was。 After reading about thirty books about Poirot, they all start to seem the same。But when I got to the end, to the murder itself, I believe it was the most brutal one described in one of these books。 That part changed my mind about this book, that it was different from the lot。

Not a bad story, a good story as a matter of fact, but I just wasn't as invested as I have been with other Poirot story。Still worth a try none the less。 Not a bad story, a good story as a matter of fact, but I just wasn't as invested as I have been with other Poirot story。Still worth a try none the less。 。。。more

As Hercule Poirot novels go, this was disappointing。 It starts promisingly enough, with Poirot's writer friend Ariadne Oliver feeling that something was wrong, and the discovery of a really dead body, as opposed to one playing dead, in a find-the-murder game。The problem is that the deduction goes pretty much nowhere for most of the book, and then a complicated solution appears, almost out of nowhere, in the last few pages。 There was a little foreshadowing, but not nearly enough。 As Hercule Poirot novels go, this was disappointing。 It starts promisingly enough, with Poirot's writer friend Ariadne Oliver feeling that something was wrong, and the discovery of a really dead body, as opposed to one playing dead, in a find-the-murder game。The problem is that the deduction goes pretty much nowhere for most of the book, and then a complicated solution appears, almost out of nowhere, in the last few pages。 There was a little foreshadowing, but not nearly enough。 。。。more

Found the ending a bit too much, Poirot found out way too much information without us readers which made it seems like he was somehow a clairvoyant。

Not my favorite Poirot book which is surprising since Hastings wasn’t the narrator and there was a little more narration on the inner workings of Poirot’s little grey cells。 I did like that aspect but did not love miss Oliver’s character。 Actually several characters I did not really enjoy。

A satisfying mystery with a great plot。 The setting of the murder hunt was very interesting。 One of the characters is the crime novelist Adriane Oliver, who gives some insights into the writing process。 Poirot's role was very limited during the investigation and witness interviews。 Agatha Christie doesn't waste any words。 I like it when the authors keep it to the point。 A satisfying mystery with a great plot。 The setting of the murder hunt was very interesting。 One of the characters is the crime novelist Adriane Oliver, who gives some insights into the writing process。 Poirot's role was very limited during the investigation and witness interviews。 Agatha Christie doesn't waste any words。 I like it when the authors keep it to the point。 。。。more

Okay I did not enjoy this。 Maybe I was just expecting more, maybe Christie's style just didn't work for me, but damn the story did not make up for how goddamn awful all the characters were。 It wasn't cosy crime, it was just depressing, and the ending was such a stretch。 Okay I did not enjoy this。 Maybe I was just expecting more, maybe Christie's style just didn't work for me, but damn the story did not make up for how goddamn awful all the characters were。 It wasn't cosy crime, it was just depressing, and the ending was such a stretch。 。。。more

Great mood and setting, but the end came out of left field。 Christie always plays fair, and there were clues。 3。75 stars。
