Summary

Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself。 But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him。

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister's recent death。

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it's unclear who saves whom。 And when they pair up on a project to discover the 'natural wonders' of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It's only with Violet that Finch can be himself - a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who's not such a freak after all。 And it's only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them。 But as Violet's world grows, Finch's begins to shrink。

Wow okay。 I had high expectations for this book when I started it due to positive reviews。 It did not disappoint! The book was well written, a lot of the characters were likeable, and the plot was great! I enjoyed the romance between Violet and Finch, they were great for each other。 I liked seeing how Finch was able to help Violet as well。 I liked Violet a little bit more than Finch, her character just connected with me a bit more。 Both characters were written well。 The side characters weren't a Wow okay。 I had high expectations for this book when I started it due to positive reviews。 It did not disappoint! It wasn't easy to read。 Not because of the way its written - I could've honestly finish it in a day, Niven's writing is that captivating - but the story is so emotionally charged, I had to stop and catch my breath。 I shed many tears and I was sucked in by the characters; my heart ached and even though I had already watched the movie adaptation, I still hoped that something would happen to change the ending, to make everything okay。 Reading the author's notes made the story even more intense and It wasn't easy to read。 Not because of the way its written - I could've honestly finish it in a day, Niven's writing is that captivating - but the story is so emotionally charged, I had to stop and catch my breath。 I shed many tears and I was sucked in by the characters; my heart ached and even though I had already watched the movie adaptation, I still hoped that something would happen to change the ending, to make everything okay。 Reading the author's notes made the story even more intense and proved the importance of telling stories like this one and how important it is to remember those who are no longer among us, but are still alive and present all around us。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I actually read half of the book in one night and the rest in two hours。 From the very start I felt an emotional connection to Finch and I just knew the book would rip my heart apart。 And to be honest: it did。 not in the way of GOD I HAVE TO PUT IT DOWN but more in a sense of inner pain that slowly spreads and begins to hurt because of the pressure。 It‘s actually one of my favourite books now。

I loved the first 1/3 of the book, the middle was not my cup of tea especially the whole “losing your virginity“ subplot, and I liked the last part。 I didn’t feel sad because even though the characters basically poured their heart out, I never felt connected to them, I liked them sure but I felt nothing special

I don't cry a lot if I do its pretty serious , this book made me shed a couple of tears but that was it I knew what was going to happen to finch and I knew violet was gonna cry after his death , they were dating but the letter that he wrote to her made me cry the most, this isn't a cute romance read , As someone who see's a bit of herself in finch its just sad and bittersweet romance with a sad ending。 I knew there was no way that finch would get the help he needed and to be frank at that point of his life before he left violet He really had no hope left for him。 Pros-finch -finch-80s finch -badass finch-vegetarian finch-Good mental health rep。-romance was cute and fluffy Cons- the ending overall this book is a must read to really know and feel what's going on someones mind who has mental illness , if you need help please do not be afraid to ask -a melonconny 14 year old 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book is a very good book。 It shows a different side of suicides and sometimes people who kill them selves don’t hate their lives or have terrible depression sometimes being alive is just too difficult and this book portrays loss in a more positive way if that’s possible

This book broke my little heart into million pieces。 I’m not okay。 I have been crying whole day and my eyes are whole swelled with tears。 I really don’t know how I had the strength to finish it。 But it is very important book and I wish everyone would read it! It really made me realise some things and I feel so sad but at the same time so enlightened。 Yes, this is a book basically about suicidal thoughts and suicide and how two young people feel, what they think and everything that happens with them, in their heads when they fall into this dark place。 It is written really beautifully, yet simple and easy to read。 Although it really is a hard, emotional and very very very sad book so beware of that before reading it。 。。。more

Favorite Line: "We do not remember days, we remember moments。"Let me start by saying I hardly read much YA Fiction。 If the book doesn't have magic or assassin's or a world at war, I can't get into it。 Especially YA books about teenagers, as backwards as that sounds。 To me, I've always thought, "if I'm reading a book to escape my reality, why would I willingly read one about reality?"That being said, All the Bright Places is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read。 The only oth Favorite Line: "We do not remember days, we remember moments。"Let me start by saying I hardly read much YA Fiction。 If the book doesn't have magic or assassin's or a world at war, I can't get into it。 Especially YA books about teenagers, as backwards as that sounds。 To me, I've always thought, "if I'm reading a book to escape my reality, why would I willingly read one about reality?"That being said, All the Bright Places is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read。 The only other YA Fiction book that has EVER evoked such emotion from me as this book did, would be The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which, to this day, near a decade later, remains my favorite coming to age story。 Let's get into the book itself。For those who love classic literature, Jennifer Niven includes many references to both that and Virginia Woolf。 I felt it made our main character personable because she was reading what many readers have read。 The adventure that they both go on takes the reader on an emotional adventure, so to speak。 It lives up to the hype, you WILL be sobbing by the end。 But the plot progression flows so well that it's difficult to put the book down。If you're not usually the type to read the author's acknowledgements at the end of a book, read this one。 Please。 Even if it's the only one you ever read, let it be this one。 Because as soon as I stifled my tears, and I thought the heartbreak was over, I read those words and sobbed for three days after。 It completely shattered me。 And as I read that, it suddenly made perfect sense why the story and the character's itself tore apart my heart in such a hauntingly real way。 It's because of that acknowledgement that I can confidently say I will never read this book again。 But it will certainly live in my heart just like Perks of Being a Wallflower, and it will definitely be a book I recommend to everyone, regardless of age。 。。。more

The heteros are at it again。 I’m so unfazed by the ending because it was too predictable。 also, THEODORE FINCH CAN TAKE MY HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Violet is so that bitch who’s like I may be popular but I have ~trauma~。 And Finch is the text book bad boy where no one understands me, and I’m weirdly obsessed about female body parts。

A beautifully written story, revolving around two teenagers who both face dire personal struggles who embark on a cathartic journey chronicling the wonders of Indiana。 Some serious topics are mentioned in this and they are believable and really affect you。 I really love the quotes embedded in the conversations, just casually inserted these smart quotes from Virginia Woolf and Cesare Pavese are what makes me love this book。
